Mr. Gary R. Morrison

Gary R. Morrison is the Executive Director of the NewDay USA Foundation, located in Fulton, MD. NewDay USA is the largest mortgage lender for veterans in the United States. The Foundation provides financial education, improved housing, scholarships, and devotes thousands of hours to charities that improve the lives of past, present, and future service members.

Gary is a 1981 graduate of the Fishburne Military School, and in 1985 he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. He spent many years in sales and management in the chemical and medical supply industries. He has made a career of joining underperforming organizations, using his broad expertise to help expand sales territories, open new markets, and improve production efficiencies to bolster the financial position of these companies. Most of his career, however, has been spent in education. For five years, he was a Career Development Specialist for the Pittsburgh Technical Institute, and from 1997 to 2004, he was the Dean of Admissions at Fishburne. In 2012, he was named Superintendent/President of the Fishburne Military School, where he spent the next four years overseeing the operations of the school. In May of 2017, he joined the NewDay USA Foundation as their Vice President, and was recently promoted to Executive Director.

Gary is the author of “Your Kids – Their Future”, and is a highly sought after speaker, having once keynoted at the Pennsylvania Department of Education Convention. He speaks to numerous organizations nationwide on leadership and career development. One of Gary’s proudest achievements is that he is one of only two people in history to be named “Alumnus of the Year” twice by the Fishburne Military School. He says the greatest advice he ever received was to “keep my eyes and ears open, and my mouth shut.”

Gary resides in Waynesboro, VA with his wife of twenty-seven years, Susan, and their 16-year-old full time college student Katelynn. In his spare time he enjoys magic, but the true joy of his life is traveling the nation and world with his family, whom he calls “the Three Amigos”.

William R. Schutt is the founder, former owner and Chairman of MATCOR, Inc., a forty-year old engineering and manufacturing company serving the worldwide oil, gas, and infrastructure industries and governments. Bill is a Drexel University graduate, holder of six US patents and several foreign patents. He has been recognized by the US government as one of the top experts in infrastructure corrosion and was part of a White House delegation to the Soviet Union. Bill is certified as a NACE International Corrosion Specialist and is an ICORR Fellow of the United Kingdom Corrosion Society. He has authored and published numerous technical papers and lectured in more than twenty-five countries.

Bill has been featured for his business and technical achievements in TIME Magazine, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Philadelphia Inquirer and many other publications. He has appeared on national radio and television including Good Morning America, Hannity & Colmes, MSNBC, FOX News, NBC, CBS and others. He has received numerous awards for his work and worldwide projects, and in 2016 received an Honorary Doctor of Letters from Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, PA.

Bill spends much of his time with non-profit organizations and serves, or has served, on the Boards of several organizations. He mentors established business owners and is a mentor for students at Drexel University in Philadelphia. A saxophone player, Bill plays in the Delaware Valley College Symphonic and Jazz Bands, does classical solo work and has played with the Bucks County Symphony.

He is the founder of the Delaware Valley Saxophone Quartet that has played in venues from the Philadelphia Constitution Center to concerts in Nantucket, MA. The group made their first studio CD in March 2017. He also serves as the resident saxophone professor and “Know-It-All” philosopher at the Schutt Institute for Exceptional Grandchildren.

Mr. Donald L. Salmon

Donald L. Salmon is President and CEO of TBI Mortgage Company. TBIM is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toll Brothers, Inc., a publicly traded home builder based in Horsham, PA. Don began his mortgage banking career in 1977 as a Loan Officer, and has served in various management and executive positions since 1981. Don was founder and CEO of Phoenix Mortgage Co., in Fort Washington, PA. Don received his Bachelors Degree in Management/Marketing from St. Joseph’s University, where he was a member of the Division I Track Team. He later earned an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Don has served on the Board of Directors and was past president of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Greater Philadelphia and is past Treasurer of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Pennsylvania. Don is also a past member of the Residential Board of Governors of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America.

He has served on the Board of the Philadelphia Development Partnership, and was a member of the Home Ownership Council of Greater Philadelphia. Don was also a member of Fannie Mae’s Regional Advisory Board.

In the past, Don has served public interests, including the Lower Moreland School Board, and was the Founding Chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Greater Philadelphia’s Fair Lending Committee. Don is a member of the Father Judge High School (Phila, PA) Hall of Fame, serves on the Executive Committee of the President’s Board of Advisors, and chairs the Education Committee. He also serves on the Board of the Friends of Father Judge.

Don has been married for over thirty-four years. He and his wife Dawn have three children, one of whom is deceased, and have taken responsibility for another young man. The family attends Abington Monthly Meeting of Friends. Don has completed terms as Clerk of the Religious Education and Audit Committees for the Meeting. The family also belongs to Huntingdon Valley Country Club.

Don has coached soccer, baseball, softball, roller hockey and basketball for the Lower Southampton Youth Association and the Huntingdon Valley Activities Association. Don is a graduated former member of the Young President’s Organization.

Stanley W. Sloter is the President and Founder of the Paradigm Companies, headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. Through its affiliates, Paradigm operates a real estate development firm, a general contracting firm ($150 million per year), and a property management company (approximately 10,000 apartment units).

In addition, Paradigm owns and operates over thirty (primarily high rise, multifamily) communities. Paradigm has operated in the mid-Atlantic region since its inception in 1991.

Stan began his career in banking with Pittsburgh National Bank in their construction lending group. He transitioned to a development role with one of the bank’s customers (National Development Corporation) in 1985, where he established a presence in the DC metro area. When National Development discontinued operations during the 1990 recession, Stan and a group of his associates took the opportunity to form Paradigm.

A native of Altoona, Pennsylvania, Stan is a graduate of Lycoming College, where he studied Chemistry before seeking a business degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He continues to be strongly involved with Lycoming, currently serving as the Chairman of the Lycoming Board of Trustees. In addition, he serves as an adjunct professor at The George Washington University School of Business where he teaches a class on Real Estate Development and Entrepreneurship.

Stan is a strong believer in the unique opportunities available in America today. He supports entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial thinking, both within large organizations and private enterprises. He believes the world is full of capital looking to invest in young people who have good ideas and the drive to pursue them. Stan has experienced the sense of purpose that can be found through the process of implementing entrepreneurial ideas, and he strives to encourage that in others.

Stan and his wife Jolene (also a graduate of Lycoming) are strong proponents of school choice and have founded “The Rocketship Schools of Washington, DC” which are primary public charter schools targeting disadvantaged students.

They have two daughters: Kelsey, who is currently in graduate school at James Cook University in Australia, and Andrea, who will be a sophomore at Brandeis University this fall. A private pilot, Stan enjoys golf and travel in addition to his various business interests.

Mr. Clem C. Rosenberger

Clem C. Rosenberger is the President and CEO of NexTier Inc. and NexTier Bank. NexTier has been serving Armstrong and Butler Counties for nearly 140 years and is one of the region’s fastest growing community banks. NexTier provides consumer banking services, business banking services, cash management and investment services, through a network of twenty-eight branches in Armstrong, Allegheny, Butler and most recently, Westmoreland Counties. In his role as President and CEO, Clem is responsible for nearly 300 employees, the overall strategic direction of NexTier and the efficient operation of the organization.

With more than eighteen years of experience in financial services, Clem was named President and CEO in 2016. Prior to his current role, Clem served as Chief Operating Officer of NexTier Bank and Farmers & Merchants Bank and was the CFO of Farmers National Bank. Clem also served as an internal auditor for S.R. Snodgrass while earning his CPA designation. Clem is a graduate of the American Bankers Association’s National and Graduate Commercial Lending Schools.

Clem graduated Summa Cum Laude from Harding University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting. While at Harding, Clem married his high school sweetheart at the ripe old age of 19. Now in their 22nd year of blissful marriage, Clem and Debby are blessed with two children, Elizabeth (14) and Nathan (11). “While I wouldn’t recommend most 19-year olds get married, our marriage has lasted, and will continue to last until death do us part, due to our strong commitment to each other and God.” The Rosenbergers enjoy being together as a family and traveling throughout the United States, forty-five states and counting.

Commitment is an important attribute in life. Commitment to God has led Clem to serve as deacon of education in his home congregation at Kittanning Church of Christ, taking charge of various activities including vacation bible school and the Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes program. Commitment to Family has blessed Clem with the responsibility of raising two wonderful children and serving his wife. Commitment to Community has created opportunities to serve either presently or in the past on the Board for Armstrong Habitat for Humanity, Downtown Kittanning Revitalization Committee, Armstrong School District Foundation, Richard G. Snyder YMCA, and Armstrong County Industrial Development Authority. Clem also recently completed the Leadership Butler County Program. In 2012, Clem was honored by the Armstrong County Chamber of Commerce as the Volunteer Citizen of the Year.

A Very Special Dedication If you have spent any time with John Trombetta, you can’t help but feel his unbridled enthusiasm and genuine passion for PFEW. If you’ve attended one of his astonishing 120 PFEW closing banquets, you’ve heard him say that the greatest day of his life (save for the birth of his children) was the day he was entrusted with the reigns of this program. For the past twenty-nine summers, John has shared his enthusiasm and passion with tens of thousands of young people, igniting in them their own passions, not only for free enterprise, but for life itself, ultimately influencing their futures forever.

As most of you know, John will be retiring in January 2018, so we proudly dedicate our 2017 Program Brochure to this very special man.

It would be easy to quote statistics, to put John’s journey in terms of numbers, but that would dramatically understate both him and his lasting impact on PFEW. Instead, let’s talk about the things you cannot measure, things like passion, drive, desire to make a difference, heart. Coming out of Penn State, John spent the first seventeen years of his career in law enforcement. He will tell you that while it was exciting and rewarding, it came at a steep price. He rarely witnessed the best, and most often saw the worst in people. He needed a change. Fast forward to July 1989. John’s life and PFEW intersected, and the course of his life, and this program, would be changed forever.

He will admit that at first he didn’t know what he was doing, but because John possesses a tremendous can-do attitude and positive outlook, he immediately met the challenges of running and growing this program. Over his tenure, he has faithfully led PFEW with incredible energy, determination, grit, and above all, heart. Because of him, PFEW has seen unprecedented growth, becoming the largest, most respected youth summer economics education program in the world. His drive and passion have enabled PFEW to deliver a world class educational experience for Pennsylvania’s youth. If you ever visit his office, you will see a small plaque on his desk with four simple words, four words that open a window to his character – “It CAN be done.” Yes, John, it can, and because of you, it was.

It would be an exercise in futility to describe John in one word, but some words that come to mind are: Dedicated, Loyal, Tenacious, Ardent, Passionate, Driven, Committed, Skilled, Engaging, Smart, Caring, there are simply too many to list. John would likely admit that over the course of his life, some of these words probably should not be published. But in the end, after twenty-eight years of unparalleled excellence leading this wonderful organization, as inadequate as this word is to acknowledge who you are, all you have done, and how you have left it, we simply from the heart say, Thanks.
