SOPHIE & NELL’S CHOICES

Premium pet products, destinations & activities for you & your pet chosen by Sophie & Nell, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, assisted by Marie, and guest reviewer Hector!

Fellipet bowls Aesthetically they are very pleasing to the eye. The bowls are extremely robust. The water bowl has reduced the amount of spillage of water on the kitchen floor. The shape of the interior of the food bowl ensures Hector takes his time when eating as he like to make sure he is getting every piece of food from around the raised paw print. Both are excellent products and I would have no hesitation in recommending them to other pet owners.

Tough toys This has been a very good toy for Hector. As a 6 month old puppy he has very sharp teeth and the toy has withstood many hours of chewing and other than a few little indentations it shows no sign of deterioration. The size is ideal for Hector’s mouth and I have no doubts that this toy has saved him chewing on the furniture!

Plubber toys Hector has enjoyed playing with his stick and bone, the stick has found itself buried in the garden flower beds on more than one occasion, but with a little bit of a wipe has returned to almost new condition. I was a little concerned that the felt like exterior would deteriorate with little sharp puppy teeth but 4 weeks on is still as good as new.

All of the above are available to buy at: www.rosewoodpet.com/dog/play-time

You're not one to complain at the idea of anyone you live with going off for a well deserved vacation, but, if the truth be told, you'd like to go along. You're now in a season where many wishes do come true, so put your vast spiritual abilities to use to bring happy outcomes for all your favourite people and pets. CAPRICORN December 22nd - January 20th

While other of your friends are busily on the move, you're happily content to sit quietly listening to music or watching the neighbours from a window perch. The core of the matter is that high activity currently holds little interest for you, but finding the perfect spot on your friend's lap or at their feet pleases both you and them. Such warm relationships are necessary for your well being, so you thrive on getting as close to those you care for as you possibly can.

Gathering news comes naturally to you; if you're not picking up gossip from a neighbour, you're watching the television or listening in to humans chatting on the phone. Of course, the latter is less than satisfying because you can only hear one half of what's being said, but it's enough to tickle your imagination. When it comes to sharing what you've heard you're not inclined to be selective about who you tell, but you might reconsider that mode of being now.

No need to demand anything now, just walk into a room and you'll be given just what you hoped for! Your people already know just what you prefer to eat; whether they can find these things at local shops or must order them from a distance, no matter; your favourite dishes will be placed before you. Four-legged Bliss

Ever increasing numbers of people now want their best fourlegged friend at their wedding. We find out how your day can go smoothly with your best four-legged friend as a guest. Last December, our Editor got married and, quite naturally, wanted one of her oldest and best friends to be there. So, after checking with the venue and getting permission, Pets Magazine’s Canine Columnist in Chief Sophie, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, attended the nuptials. So, how should you prepare your pooch for your big day? Dog trainer Darren James, MD of Royvon Dog Training has worked with many customers to ensure their pet dog makes a positive contribution on their wedding day.

A Royal Heritage

The beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a royal heritage, having been beloved of Charles II, in particular. During the early part of the 18th century, John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, kept red and white King Charles type spaniels for hunting. The duke recorded that they were able to keep up with a trotting horse. Because of this influence, the red and white variety of the King Charles Spaniel became known as the Blenheim. The perfect combination of lapdog and sporting spaniel, Cavaliers are difficult to resist! But they do have a number of inherited genetic diseases that make it crucial that anyone of thinking of getting a puppy should approach the right breeder. We meet some beautiful Cavaliers at Rabymar Cavaliers who are one such breeder that is passionate about the welfare of the breed. Rabymar Cavalier’s Kate, Rabymar Paper Moon

Sophie and Nell have very different characters but, like all Cavaliers, they love people and are very eager to please. Both dogs adore their food rather too much and can easily be trained with suitably tasty treats – in small morsels, of course!

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are special. I’ve got two of them, Nell and Sophie, and would love more. Perhaps all four colour variations – Ruby, Blenheim, Tricolour and Black and Tan – but I have got to be practical, unfortunately!

Lola

Loves...

Hello, my name is Lola and I'm a six-year old moggy living in the north of England. I belong to the pet writer David Cliff and we are great friends, David doing an excellent job as my personal servant. Another one of my peripheral group of slaves, Marie Carter who is the editor, has asked me to review a whole range of products that people keep sending me, which is part of my God-given right as a cat to receive... This month, I've been sent a huge number of things. IAMS the well-known pet food brand produced a new range of food pouches, IAMS Delights. The Delights range offers nine varieties such as chicken in gravy, salmon and trout in jelly, tuna and peas in gravy, chicken and turkey in gravy, turkey and duck in jelly, lamb and pepper in gravy, beef and liver in gravy and lamb and liver in jelly. I quite like these, although I was sick a few times at first, not because of any problem with the food but, I'm always sick when I have a change of food at first, it's my right as a cat to protest any change. Owners need to be aware when changing food that we have delicate little stomachs and a slow adaptation is better than a sudden sea change in diet. IAMs produced a further range called IAMS natural, this is available in both dry and wet food for cats, and also there is a dry variation for dogs. I quite like dry food. I like the crunchiness and it tends to keep my teeth in a stain free condition. Once again, it's full of natural stuff and preservers don't feature.

The Jolly Moggy vibro chasing toy, cost ÂŁ2.49 from Rosewood Pet Products. Pull the tail on this little fluffy coat of plastic board and just watch it go as it vibrates along the floor with a slightly friendly action. Just the thing to stimulate the old hunting senses and make one pounce on it with all the aplomb of a lioness on a wildebeest in the savanna. Come on, I'm a house cat, I need some fantasies!

I've been able to retire to my very plush looking scratch lounge which is more like a scratch throne provided by 3 Fat Cats, who produce beautiful quality scratch furniture and pet

products, current website prices varying from between £14 and £50, depending on the level of sophistication you want. Now scratch lounges can be quite cheap, quite expensive and most of them look like just boxes with corrugated strips on them. These lounges have a real sort of furniture feel to them and I feel quite the little princess. Something that's understated but very scrummy is Eden Holistic pet foods natural complete pet food. Sold in 500g packs this organic food is 85% meat. This truly throws down a bit of a gauntlet to those manufacturers who think they can pad out their products with other materials. It's not the most attractive packaging in the world, but then it's not a box so I don't play with it and it's the contents that count. 15% of the balance of the ingredients are fruit and veg to, with herbs and vitamins and minerals. This understated food is based on an ancestral diet and involves chicken, salmon, herring, duck and egg. Naturally hypoallergenic, this will even suit the gluten intolerant cat. Some probiotics have been added with joint easing supplements. It's a Lola’s friend Lucy reclines in style British made product and I love it! That's all for this month folks, I'll get back to you with what I try next.
