Bikes for Staff Scheme e of a brand new bik ce ri p il ta re e th ff o Save up to 40%

Coventry University has teamed up with Cyclescheme to offer you a fantastic saving of up to 40% on the cost of a bike and cycling safety equipment for work. By ordering a bike through this scheme you can: • Save up to 40% (depending on your personal level of taxation) • Spread the cost over 12 months through monthly payments direct from your salary, without having to incur massive high street finance charges. • Choose from any make or model available from a wide range of local bike shops – do you fancy a full suspension mountain bike, a racing road bike or even a folding commuter model? • Save on the cost of safety equipment • Help the environment

This benefit takes advantage of a government tax exemption which allows Coventry University to loan your choice of bike and related safety equipment to you for travel to work, though of course it can be used for leisure purposes too. The cost of the bike will then be deducted from your salary over a period of 12 months through a salary sacrifice scheme, which means that you save on tax and National Insurance contributions. At the end of the 12 months you may have the option to purchase the bike at fair market value. In total, you can save up to 40% off the cost of a brand new bike.

To take part in the scheme or for more information including answers to Frequently Asked Questions, visit https://staff.coventry.ac.uk/ps/hr/Pages/bikes.aspx

7 CU c ar share

Cut your fuel costs with CarShare Coventry University works with ‘liftshare’ to provide staff with its very own car-share scheme.

You don’t have to do it every day! You can choose to car share as little or as often as you like.

Car sharing is not only good for the environment, but it is good for your wallet too!

• Find drivers or passengers online instantly for FREE • Cut your fuel costs • Reduce the stress of driving every day • Help reduce congestion and pollution

This car-sharing scheme is free to use and is currently available to staff with a University email address. To use the scheme, just register yourself and your journey details. The system will then match you safely and securely with other registered members who live nearby and with whom you could share the journey to and from the University.

Register today to find a match and enjoy the benefits of car sharing – you really have nothing to lose!

For further details, please visit https://staff.coventry.ac.uk/ps/estates/Pages/Travel.aspx

Spread the cost of your bus or rail travel to work Spread the cost of your bus or rail travel to work with an annual West Midlands TravelCard. The University will initially pay for your TravelCard and you can then meet the cost via monthly deductions from your salary.

This allows you to benefit from the discounted travel rates associated with purchasing an annual travel pass, whilst still allowing you to spread the cost, interest free, over 12 months effectively offering you an interest-free loan over 12 months.

For more information, visit https://staff.coventry.ac.uk/ps/hr/Pages/travelcard.aspx

Pension and Life Insurance Coventry University offers three different pensions schemes for its different groups of employees. All three schemes are final salary, indexlinked schemes. This means that your pension on retirement will be based on your final salary and length of service in the scheme, rather than on the contributions you have paid. Index linking means that your pension increases each year in line with inflation.

To find out more about the benefits offered by the pension schemes, please visit Human Resources pages on Staff Portal. Alternatively, you can visit the website of the scheme for which you are eligible: Local Government Pension Scheme www.lgps.org.uk Teachers Pensions Scheme www.teacherspensions.co.uk Universities Superannuation Scheme www.usshq.co.uk

Healthy Living Professional staff within the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences and the Sport & Recreation Centre have designed a range of programmes to support you to achieve a healthier lifestyle. Further details of the events on offer are described below. Healthy Living Course This course runs in six weekly slots of 90 minutes. Each week you will learn about healthy living from one of our experts from sport science, dietetics and health psychology. Then you will get help to decide what the most important changes for YOU to make are, and to put this into practice in your own life. Previous course participants have achieved increased levels of exercise, healthier eating and a much more positive outlook. You also have the opportunity to have some basic fitness tests. “Moving On” in Exercise Course Aimed at staff who are already meeting the minimum recommendations for physical activity (3 x 40 minute sessions of exercise per week), this course is intended for people who want to carry on getting fitter without sustaining injuries or suffering from overtraining. We will explain the basics of how to construct an appropriate programme of diet and exercise to make sure that you are achieving your goals safely and effectively, and will offer help to put this into practice in your everyday life. There is also the opportunity to have some laboratory fitness tests to help optimise your training programme.

Nutrition Challenges Workshops Information about eating a healthy diet is readily available, but sometimes confusing. The healthy living course covers the basics, but sometimes people need more specific and detailed advice. Workshops will give participants clear information and then help them to plan how they can implement this in their own lives. Health Week Health Week is run in collaboration between the Sport and Recreation Centre, Dietetics, Sport and Exercise Science, Counselling, Human Resources and the Spirituality and Faith Centre. There will be a whole range of talks and practical activities based around exercise, avoiding and treating injuries, healthy diet and emotional wellbeing. There will also be an ‘information fair’, where you can get information on a variety of topics from how much salt to eat, to what’s on at the Sports Centre, how to treat a bad back and even cycling schemes.
