Aims • To assist learners seeking employment in the logistics industry. • For learners to gain the relevant skills and qualifications to drive vans up to a maximum authorised mass of 3.5 tonnes.

Driver Training Programme • Duration – Approximately 6-8 weeks (Full programme only). (May be extended subject to availability & holidays)

• Attendance will be up to 16hrs per week. • Attendance and time-keeping will be monitored. • Personal protective equipment will be issued and must be worn on site. • All workbook activities to be completed. • Training programme requires some home study.

Skills & Qualifications • Banksman Training, depot safety and daily vehicle checks. • EDI Driving Goods Vehicles Unit CU1200 – Plan the route and timings for the collection and delivery of goods. • EDI Driving Goods Vehicles Unit CU2160 – Manoeuvre the van in restricted spaces. • EDI Driving Goods Vehicles Unit CU2161 – Drive the van on public roads in a safe and efficient manner.

Daily Vehicle Checks Legal Requirements •

A daily walk around check must be carried out by a responsible person before the vehicle can be taken on the road.

They must report promptly any defects that could adversely affect safe operation.

Reports must be in writing and a provision should be made to show any rectification.

Banksman Signals (Reversing Assistants) • Safe system of work between the driver and banksman. • Using a banksman to control reversing puts the banksman in a potential danger area. • As a Banksman you need to be visible to drivers at all times. • Stand in a safe position and do not get in the way. • High visibility clothing should be worn. • Drivers MUST STOP IMMEDIATELY if they lose sight of the Banksman. Drive within the speed limits. Check your tyres. Don’t drive at higher speeds with the windows open. Regularly maintain your vehicle. Replace filters when needed. Keep short distance journeys to a minimum.
