Aims • To assist learners seeking employment in the logistics industry. • For learners to gain the relevant skills and qualifications to drive vans up to a maximum authorised mass of 3.5 tonnes.

Driver Training Programme • Duration – Approximately 6-8 weeks (Full programme only). (May be extended subject to availability & holidays)
• Attendance will be up to 16hrs per week. • Attendance and time-keeping will be monitored. • Personal protective equipment will be issued and must be worn on site. • All workbook activities to be completed. • Training programme requires some home study.

Skills & Qualifications • Banksman Training, depot safety and daily vehicle checks. • EDI Driving Goods Vehicles Unit CU1200 – Plan the route and timings for the collection and delivery of goods. • EDI Driving Goods Vehicles Unit CU2160 – Manoeuvre the van in restricted spaces. • EDI Driving Goods Vehicles Unit CU2161 – Drive the van on public roads in a safe and efficient manner.

Daily Vehicle Checks Legal Requirements •
A daily walk around check must be carried out by a responsible person before the vehicle can be taken on the road.

They must report promptly any defects that could adversely affect safe operation.

Reports must be in writing and a provision should be made to show any rectification.

Banksman Signals (Reversing Assistants) • Safe system of work between the driver and banksman. • Using a banksman to control reversing puts the banksman in a potential danger area. • As a Banksman you need to be visible to drivers at all times. • Stand in a safe position and do not get in the way. • High visibility clothing should be worn. • Drivers MUST STOP IMMEDIATELY if they lose sight of the Banksman.
