A quick glance through our first sale catalog and you’ll find a pedigree, birthdate, birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight and WDA. That’s it. Fast forward to now and today’s offering has been weighed, measured, carcass scanned, EPDs calculated, DNA tested and so on. This information is all valuable and has its place, but we can’t lose sight of the things that are difficult to measure like structural soundness, calf vigor at birth, mothering ability, natural fleshing ability, muscle mass & shape, adaptability and more. Our cattle pay our bills, and we know that our customers operate the same way. We don’t believe in single trait selection or chasing fads, so do our best to select and produce cattle that are balanced in many traits…and still look good too!

Since 1970

For a few years the buzzwords we read about are “sustainability” and “efficiency.” As the beef industry forges ahead, cattle operators of all stripes will be charged with producing all they can, as efficiently as possible with the resources we’re given. Because of this, we see Limousin genetics having a very bright future in the beef production chain. As important as the fed cattle side of the business is, we believe that the maternal efficiency of the Limousin or Limousin cross cow is unmatched and has been one of the breed’s best kept secrets. She truly can produce as much or more-with less inputs-than her peers of other genetic makeup. If you ask any of us, we will continue to raise cattle that are balanced in multiple traits.

All bulls are semen tested and are guaranteed to be breeders and settle cows. Scrotal measurments will be available sale day. All females one year of age are guaranteed breeders.

multiple herd use

The North American Limousin Association new rules state: any bull used A.I. in more than one herd, must have the dam blood typed. If you are planning on using any bulls this way, please write on invoice sale day so we have the blood work on those cows on file. Lots 4,27,34,39,40 and 50 are not eligible for A.I. use. Dams were sold before blood typed.

Preformance Data

BW Birth Weight

Weight of calf at birth.

All births are given a score, A-E, based upon how the calf was delivered

A - Unassisted

B - Some Help

C - Mechanical Pull

D - Caesarean

E - Abnormal Presentation

WW Weaning Weight

This is the weaning weight of the cattle adjusted to 205 days of age. Weaning weight is a good indication of early growth of a calf and milking ability of the dam.

YW Yearling Weight

This is the yearling weight of the animal adjusted to 365 days of age with at least 150 days between the actual weaning weight and the time of recording the actual yearling weight.

WDA Weight Per Day of Age

WDA gives you a look into growth potential. This is an important tool for you to use in your selection process because rate of growth is heritable. WDA can also reflect how hard the animal has been fed.

SC Scrotal Measurement

Measured in centimeters by Doctor Erik Holum. Scrotal measurements are actual not adjusted.

• Scan data on yearling bulls is adjusted to 365 days.

• EPDs were taken from NALF on March 5, 2025
