Das Rauschen der Medien in Prousts «À la recherche du temps perdu» Der Band führt mediale und wahrnehmungsästhetische Überlegungen vor dem Hintergrund des Sinnbildes der Motte zusammen. Die Motte avanciert im Proust’schen Romanwerk nicht nur zum Inbegriff der Störungen, die sich immer wieder in den Schreibprozess des Protagonisten einnisten, sondern spiegelt zugleich die subtile Medialisierung der «Recherche», die in ihrer alles erfassenden Wirkung eher hintergründig bleibt: als Rauschen, das den Wahrnehmungsprozess des Protagonisten beständig begleitet, als leiser und beständiger «Mottenfraß» am Papier, der jedoch weit davon entfernt ist, bloße Irritation zu sein, und vor allem auch kreative Prozesse beim Protagonisten zu erwecken vermag. Die Analyse deckt ein filigran gewebtes Netz medialer Interferenzen auf, das den Weg vom Körper zu den Verzweigungen der Wahrnehmung sowie zurück zum Körper beschreitet und bereits auf medientheoretische Thesen vorausweist, die sich so erst in den 60er/70er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts Bahn brechen.
Robert Desnos remains celebrated today as one of France’s most famous surrealist artists and as a hero and martyr of the French Resistance. Robert Desnos and the Play of Popular Culture sheds new light onto both of these facets of his persona and uncovers the fundamental connections between them by analyzing the poet’s long-standing commitment to the public domain and his involvement with popular media during the 1930s and 1940s. Through analysis of Desnos’s regular contributions to the sensationalist 1930s-era magazine Voilà, this study begins with consideration of Desnos’s turn to popular commercial media after his break with André Breton. The study then turns to Desnos’s continued engagement with the public sphere of artistic expression under the Occupation and analyzes Bonsoir mesdames, bonsoir messieurs, the 1944 film that Desnos co-authored with Henri Jeanson, which was released in Parisian theatres just one week before Desnos’s arrest and deportation for resistance activities. Exploration of these intriguing but surprisingly little-known facets of his artistic production demonstrates that Desnos, far from abandoning his prewar fascination with the power of popular media, sustained and deepened his engagement with public culture as a space of contestation where the interplay of public and private, producer and consumer, intersects with the cultural politics of wartime France. The book includes the full text of Desnos’s eleven articles for Voilà, which have never been previously collected, with accompanying English translations.
Essai sur l’œuvre romanesque d’Édouard Glissant L’œuvre romanesque d’Édouard Glissant, élaborée sur près d’un demi-siècle, se caractérise par une grande cohérence notamment du fait d’un personnel romanesque récurrent qui conduit collectivement la narration. Résolument ancrée dans une vision de la parole partagée, la fiction de Glissant révèle et illustre les enjeux poétique, anthropologique et politique de la narration. La polyphonie particulière qui s’y déploie est qualifiée ici de discours choral ; le dispositif énonciatif mis en place par le roman glissantien contribue en effet à éclairer les problèmes fondamentaux que pose cette œuvre : l’histoire raturée dont les personnages éprouvent somatiquement le manque, la violence d’un discours ou d’un silence imposés, les implications des choix poétiques tels que la caractérisation des narrateurs, la forme (unie ou fragmentaire) du récit ou encore la répétition, sous plusieurs angles, des « mêmes » épisodes narratifs. À travers ces différents aspects, l’œuvre de Glissant apparaît comme une exigeante affirmation de la Vie contre les hégémonies et leurs expressions littéraires.
