At the August meeting of the Parish Council a complaint concerning the noise and disturbance within the vicinity of the seat known as 'Pensioners Rest', at the entrance to Twines Close, was discussed This, and any further complaints, will be considered carefully by the Parish Council, who are most anxious that such annoyance Will not lead to pressure for the permanent removal of the seat. It was agreed that, in its present, attractive setting, the seat is, indeed, an asset to the Parish, and all residents, particularly the younger members of our Community, are asked for their help in ensuring that it stays that way, keeping in mind the spirit in which it was placed there ~. to honour the memory of a much loved and respected gentleman, who for many years, until his death in 1976, was a resident of this Parish. Dog owners are reminded that not everyone is a dog-lover and are asked to ensure that their pets are properly controlled and not left to wander the streets unaccompanied Small children, the frail and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to their overtures, no matter how friendly these animals may be. It is pleasing to see that the new lay-by in Green Close is now completed and the Clerk is to write thanking the County Council and the South Somerset District Council for the most satisfactory way in which the work was carried out. The Clerk is to ask the County Divisional Surveyor, Mr. M D. Boyle-Hayward, for his advice on the hazard presented by drivers leaving the A.303 and crossing the junction with Church Road to approach Mr. White's premises Mr. Boyle-Hayward is also to be advised that visibility at either end of Brain's Lane is hampered by the overgrowth of brambles, elder, etc. Street lights are again causing problems and the Clerk is to advise Mr. Thistlethvvaite at County Hall that the light outside 1, Green Close and the first one into Manor Close are not working FOOTNOTE Mr. G Lock, representing the Post Office, kindly attended the July meeting at the invitation of the Parish Council. He explained that the present difficulties which our Parish is experiencing in the delivery of mail are due to the recent changes in the system. It is hoped that these are transitional and that within 18 months the situation will have greatly improved. Meanwhile, anyone who is experiencing real difficulties because of late deliveries may approach Mr. Ian Gare at Queen Camel Post Office with a view to collecting his/her mail. Mr. Lock has promised to keep the situation under review and help where possible. Next month, September, we are looking forward to welcoming Mr. Woods, our local Police Constable, as our special guest. The meeting will be in the Committee Room of the Parish Hall on 7th September at 7.30 pm. If you have any matters which you want to raise, please do so through a Councillor, or come along. You will be most welcome. Avril Ward Clerk to the Council

BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION We are delighted

to print the following

letter, received as a result of the Bingo evening

held earlier In the year:

Dear Mrs. March, How extremely kind of you to send the Foundation a cheque for ÂŁ91 which was the sum raised at a Bingo evening organised by you and Mrs. Toop. I can tell you that all gifts such as this are used for cardiac research which we support at universities and hospitals around the country. Indeed quite recently grants have been awarded in Bristol. So may I thank you, Mrs. Toop and all who contributed to such a wonderful cheque, very much indeed. Yours sincerely Hugh Janion
