Designed and built by architect Peter Braithwaite, this unique design offers an exclusive and tranquil getaway. Accommodating up to 6 guests, this open concept, fully equipped cottage is ideal for couples, small families or outdoor enthusiasts any time of the year. The property is located 30 minutes outside of Halifax on six-acres with an outdoor fireplace, BBQ and stunning views that overlook Back Bay.
Context
Situated along a rocky outcrop that overlooks Back Bay, this open concept cottage is sited within the culturally rich community of Terence Bay, Nova Scotia. The architectural form of the building is driven by a desire to frame the rich coastal landscape. The procession through the space invites the guest into a double height volume that frames a dramatic view of the ocean. The strategic fenestration captures a panoramic view of the rugged terrain and takes advantage of natural cross ventilation.

8. The house is heated by radiant in-floor heat - if you change the thermostat it will take a full day before you will notice the temperature change.
9. We are on a septic system - please flush toilet paper only!
10. Feel free to use the BBQ outside - however we do not supply charcoal (nearest place to purchase is Prospect Foods in Lower Prospect). BBQ tools are in kitchen drawer.
11. Please use the outside fire pit responsibly - firewood is provided. Please ensure fire is completely out before leaving.
12. There are two recycling bins in the mechanical room, one is for paper, the other is for glass, aluminum and plastics
13. If trash or recycling gets full during your stay, there are two large bins at the beginning of Nice View Dr. (Located near the mailboxes). There is a key labeled for these bins located in the top right kitchen drawer.
14. If the compost bin under the sink gets full, you can empty it in the rotating compost bin behind the small black outbuilding closest to the house.
15. If the upstairs mezzanine gets too hot, there is an extension chord to plug in the fan, as well as a portable A/C unit located in the cabinet closest to the windows.
16. For parties of more than 2 people, the additional bed is a murphy bed located in the right hand side cabinet in the mezzanine at the top of the stairs. Before pulling down, please move sitting area furniture (black chairs and table).The duvet and pillows are located in the cabinets on the left hand side.
17. There is also an additional blowup mattress in the left hand side cabinets in the mezzanine. Linens will also be found here.

Shaw’s Landing
Shaw’s Landing is a seafood restaurant located in the lobster fishing community of West Dover, NS. The founding name originally came from Mr. Ian Shaw, who came to Halifax after losing his daughter when the Swissair Flight 111 tragically crashed off the coast of Peggys Cove in 1998. Ian Shaw stayed in Halifax where he opened and managed the restaurant for a number of years for the community to enjoy. It is now owned by Karen and Rob offering authentic Maritime food for everyone to enjoy. Shaw’s Landing is known for their authentic East Coast meals with “lots of beer and lobster” that are sourced locally.

SS Atlantic Heritage Park & Museum
The SS Atlantic Heritage Park Society is a group of local volunteers who are dedicated to preserving the memory of the first single-vessel marine disaster that occurred off the Canadian coast prior to the sinking of the Titanic. The park is also the home of the SS Atlantic Heritage Museum who’s mandate is to educate, promote, and preserve the stories of the SS Atlantic wreck and rescue through research, safekeeping of artifacts and memorabilia, and education.

High Head Trail
Discover this 8km out-and-back trail in Prospect, Nova Scotia. The High-Head Hiking Trail is a scenic coastal hike located within the Dr. Bill Freedman Nature Reserve on the southwestern coast of the community of Prospect. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1h 40min to complete and is a popular area for locals, so expect to encounter others while exploring. The trail is relatively easy to follow and offers hikers various terrains, including wooded paths through the forest, boardwalks, grassy passages, and, of course, rocky sections along the coast
Parking Information: Parking is available at either end of the trail, at the end of Hages Lane or off Prospect Bay Road. Best parking is at Hages Lane at the end of the cul-de-sac, however take caution not to block any residential driveways in the area. Be sure to check conditions before heading out!
