You may not have put much thought into the location yet, or maybe just a little, but it's definitely something to consider I have several locations available that I can offer, and you can choose from those Before you decide, here are a few things to think about:
What’s your dog’s favorite place? Maybe it’s the woodlands, the beach, or somewhere else they love to go
Is your dog reactive, nervous, or easily distracted? If so, a quieter location might be better suited
Are you hoping to capture a scenic landscape photo with your dog in it, or are you not fussed about the background as long as the focus is on your dog?
Let me know what you ’ re thinking, and we can take it from there!
Curwen Hall truly has it all! From enchanting woodlands to the near-perfect ruins of Curwen Castle - where Mary Queen of Scots once took refuge this location is steeped in history and natural beauty How cool is that?
On the Curwen Hall walk, you'll find a large, open field known as Millfield It’s a wide, serene space where we can capture some lively action shots Be mindful that there are sometimes sheep here, so keeping your dog on a lead is essential when they’re around The walk also passes Millstream, a lovely spot where your dog can hydrate and cool off If the lighting is right, we can even capture some stunning water action shots
In the spring, Curwen Hall comes alive with vibrant bursts of color daffodils, bluebells, and buttercups transform the landscape If you ’ re hoping for a touch of seasonal beauty in your photos, this is the perfect time to visit
This location is a favorite among other dog owners It’s generally peaceful, especially in the mornings or evenings, when we’ll likely have the place mostly to ourselves Occasionally, we may encounter a few other walkers or dogs, but we can always pause and wait until they’re out of sight for a more private session

This quiet, hidden sandy beach is truly a gem Tucked away off the beaten path, it’s only accessible on foot, which adds to its charm and tranquility Typically, I only encounter one or two other walkers and their dogs, and on occasion, you might have the entire beach all to yourself pure bliss
While this location offers fewer elements in terms of variety, what it lacks in that department, it more than makes up for in its breathtaking, wide-open views of the Solway Coast Picture rock pools scattered across the shore, seaweed-covered rocks that create textured landscapes, and striking rocky caves and formations that add character to the surroundings Of course, there s plenty of sand, sand, and more sand stretching out to meet the sea
This spot may feel more minimalist, but it offers an idyllic, peaceful backdrop for stunning photos From dynamic action shots against the open landscape to relaxed, natural portraits of your dog with the sea breeze in their fur, we’ll still create a picture-perfect gallery that captures your dog s personality and the beauty of the coast
The time for this serene beach location depends solely on the tide times We usually aim for low tide so we don’t get caught out by the fast incoming tide

Who doesn’t love the stunning Lake District? Derwentwater is available on Sundays only due to the travel time, and because sessions at this location tend to be longer, it s a good idea to plan for around 4 hours, or 5 hours if you have more than one dog There’s a lot of walking involved, but the effort is more than worth it
The views here are absolutely breathtaking You’ll have the serene beauty of Derwentwater itself, with the majestic mountainous fells providing the perfect backdrop As we walk further around the lake, you ll find picturesque woodlands that create a peaceful, natural atmosphere There are also rocks in the water, ideal for your dog to perch on and create some stunning action shots Just a heads-up wear wellies or waterproof footwear, as the paths can be a bit wet, and you may end up with soggy feet!
This location is a firm favorite among other dog owners, and I find myself visiting often because of its incredible beauty and variety It’s the perfect place for a more adventurous session that captures your dog in a wild, natural setting

While not as popular with dog owners, this location still holds its own charm I ve only visited once for a photoshoot, but it was a pleasant surprise! This spot is also Sunday only due to travel time, so it's a great choice if you ' re looking for something a bit different
Bitts Park offers wide-open spaces with plenty of trees to pose on or around, giving us plenty of options for creative shots During the spring and summer, we can likely find some blooming flowers to add a beautiful pop of color to your photos Just over the bridge, you ll discover a lovely Chinese garden, which brings even more variety to the location It’s the perfect place for a mix of natural and more structured shots, ensuring we capture a range of beautiful photos
This location is only offered a limited number of times each year, typically during the school holidays, so it’s a bit of an exclusive opportunity! To make sure you don’t miss out, be sure to keep an eye on my social media pages where I’ll announce when this location becomes available
The location itself is nothing short of stunning The Ashton Memorial, with its grand and elegant architecture, provides a striking focal point that adds a touch of sophistication and urban charm to your photos It’s the perfect backdrop for photos that feel both classic and timeless
As we walk through the park, you'll be surrounded by the beauty of woodlands, with plenty of natural spaces that offer a variety of scenic options The log piles scattered throughout add texture and interest to your shots, making it an ideal spot for more rustic or natural portraits
During spring, the park comes to life with blooming flowers, adding vibrant colors to the landscape and enhancing the overall mood of your photos
This location offers a wonderful mix of elegance and nature, with plenty of opportunities for both serene, tranquil moments and lively action shots Whether you ' re after an urban feel or more natural woodland photos, it’s a location that truly provides the best of both worlds

Your dog may be a whizz at sitting or staying still inside your home A lot of people tell me, "He does it at home," but remember at home, you ' re in a controlled, distraction-free environment
Outdoors, there’s a whole new world of distractions to navigate, and that’s where the real challenge begins! To take your dog's training to the next level, especially in preparation for their photoshoot, it s essential to practice everything they know indoors in a more stimulating outdoor setting
Start by working on those foundational commands like "sit," "stay," and " paws up " in your yard or a park, and once your dog has mastered these, introduce distractions The more distractions you add, the more your dog will learn to stay focused on you and their task, regardless of the environment This not only helps your dog ignore distractions but also gets them ready for the photoshoot, ensuring they stay calm, composed, and responsive Of course, perfecting this is not a requirement for the photoshoot, but it can be incredibly helpful, especially when trying to capture those perfect moments.
A key command that can be a game-changer is the 'focus' command, which teaches your dog to maintain attention on you, no matter what’s going on around them To effectively introduce 'focus,' your dog should already have a solid stay command This is because, during focus training, your dog will need to remain stationary while you work on getting their attention Start by rewarding your dog when they look at you or follow your movements with their eyes, and gradually introduce the verbal cue "focus" or "look" as they maintain eye contact This is an invaluable skill to have during a photoshoot, as it helps your dog stay locked in on you, even with a camera or other distractions in the background
One of the go-to poses we’ll be doing quite a bit during the shoot is ‘ paws up ’ , where your dog places their front paws on something like a tree stump, rock, or low wall Most dogs catch on to this pretty quickly, but it may take a few attempts to get the positioning just right You can practice this at home with a step or a stack of books to help them understand what’s expected don't forget to give the pose a name or command so they can recognize it in the moment
Another favorite pose is ‘looking up , where I ll lean over your dog while holding a treat just above their head, encouraging them to look up at the camera Most dogs are okay with this, but I’ve encountered a few who have been a little uneasy with me hovering over them If that’s the case, we’ll just move on to another pose, but you can prepare your dog by practicing this behavior at home, so they get comfortable with the idea of looking up while you ’ re above them
With these foundational commands and practice, your dog will be more than ready for their photoshoot, able to stay focused, comfortable, and confident, no matter the setting
W h a t t o B r i n g
TREATS! Lots and lots of them! Seriously, don t scrimp on the treats! I always tell clients to bring what they think will be enough, and then bring even more! You can never have too many treats when it comes to dog photography Rewards are essential for keeping your dog motivated, engaged, and happy throughout the session They’ll need plenty of positive reinforcement for both staying still and following commands, so it’s best to come prepared
The more treats you have, the smoother the shoot will go
"High-value treats " are a great go-to These are treats that are particularly enticing to dogs, such as cooked chicken, cheese or sausages, often used for training or situations where you want to ensure maximum focus and motivation High-value treats are usually richer in flavor or more special than everyday treats, making them perfect for rewarding good behavior or encouraging your dog during a photoshoot Bringing a variety is also recommended as the dogs could become bored of the same treat
Speaking of keeping your dog engaged, favorite toys are another great addition! Whether you re using them to capture their attention for the focus shots or simply offering them a quick play break between photos, toys can help prevent your dog from getting too bored or distracted Having something they love to interact with will make them more comfortable and relaxed, which is key for those natural, candid moments that really bring out their personality in the photos
I also highly recommend that if your dog is typically walked on a harness, you bring a collar and lead (or a slip lead) for the session The reason for this is that I specialize in natural dog portraits, and harnesses can sometimes detract from the clean, classic look we ’ re going for in the photos Harnesses also add extra editing time on my end, and I don’t usually edit them out Having a collar and lead that blends seamlessly with your dog’s look will help keep the focus on their expression and pose
If you happen to forget, don’t worry I always carry two slip leads with me, so we’ll be covered in case of an emergency!
And, just in case, don’t forget the most important things: the dog and the treats! A fun, relaxed pup and plenty of rewards are key to getting those perfect shots
If you start to feel stressed or frustrated because your dog isn’t performing as expected, it’s important to remember that your dog will pick up on that energy Dogs are incredibly intuitive, and when they sense their handler’s stress, it can make them feel more anxious, overwhelmed, and difficult to manage This can create a negative feedback loop where both you and your dog become more agitated, making the situation even harder to navigate
The key is to stay calm and patient I always remind clients: keep your cool, and trust that we’ll get there eventually. Patience is absolutely essential in pet photography. I would never rush a dog to do something they aren t ready for, and if I didn t have the patience for it, I simply wouldn t be in this line of work Pet photography requires a level of understanding that dogs, no matter how well-trained, may take their time to adjust to new experiences
If I can stay as calm as a cucumber, there’s no reason for anyone else to feel frustrated After all, your dog probably thinks they’re out for a walk, enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors Suddenly, they re being asked to stop, stay still, and pose every few minutes while a stranger (me!) is making silly noises and holding a strange, clicking contraption (the camera) in front of them They literally have no idea what’s going on, who I am, or why I’m pointing this big thing at them So, it’s essential for me to have respect and understanding for how they’re feeling during the shoot
The more relaxed and patient we can be, the more your dog will sense that calm energy Over time, that builds trust, and your dog will become more comfortable and confident My goal is to make the experience enjoyable for both you and your dog I approach every session with a deep appreciation for the fact that pets are unique, with their own personalities and quirks This patience is what ensures we get the natural, beautiful photos that truly capture the essence of your dog
In the lead-up to your session, you can expect to receive several emails from me These will serve as reminders about the details of your upcoming shoot what to expect, what to bring, and any other important information Plus, a final reminder of your session date, time and location,
One of the first things you’ll receive is a contract, which is required to be signed before we can begin the session. This is standard procedure to ensure everything is clear and agreed upon for both sides.
Along with the contract, you will also receive a questionnaire This step is crucial, as it helps me gain a thorough understanding of your dog’s unique needs and characteristics It’s important that the questionnaire is filled out as completely as possible I’ll ask questions about things like your dog’s age, breed, and personality, but I’ll also dig a little deeper into any special needs or health considerations they might have For example, are they unsteady or unbalanced? Do they have any vision or hearing impairments, like being deaf or blind? Are they reactive to certain stimuli or situations? Understanding these details beforehand allows me to plan and adjust accordingly so that the photoshoot goes smoothly for both you and your dog
By getting this information in advance, I can better prepare myself for your session, ensuring I have the right equipment, approach, and strategies in place to work with your dog’s specific needs It also helps me know what to expect from your dog s behavior during the shoot, allowing me to be flexible and patient in creating the best experience possible
This preparation is key to making sure that your dog’s photoshoot is as comfortable, fun, and successful as possible!
The meeting point will naturally depend on the location you ’ ve chosen for the shoot.
Curwen Hall: Horseclose Carpark & Skatepark
Northside Beach: Car park by train bridge [exact location can be sent via pin drop on google maps]
Derwentwater, Keswick: Lakeside Cafe
Bitts Park, Carlisle: Bitts park Carpark
Williamsons Park, Lancaster: Ashton Memorial Steps
Once we arrive, I’ll begin with some initial introductions If your dog is a bit nervous around new people or environments, don’t worry I completely understand, and I’ll take things slow I’ll spend about 5 to 10 minutes with your dog first to allow them time to suss me out and get comfortable This is a crucial part of the process, as we want your dog to feel at ease and relaxed before we start taking photos.
During this time, I ll ask you if it s okay to offer them a tasty treat that you have brought with you So that hopefully, they begin to associate me with positive experiences I may also let them sniff around and get familiar with my equipment Dogs can be curious creatures, and letting them explore my camera and props gives them a chance to understand that these things aren’t threatening I’m mindful not to overwhelm them, so I’ll go at their pace
This step is incredibly important because the last thing I want to do is make your dog feel uncomfortable My goal is to create a calm and positive environment where your dog feels relaxed and safe After all, the more at ease your dog is with me and the surroundings, the more natural and authentic the photos will be

Now that the big day has arrived, let’s dive into what actually happens during your dog’s portrait session If you ’ re bringing just one dog, they will be the sole focus of the entire session, which typically lasts around 2 hours However, this can sometimes go a bit longer depending on a few factors:
If your dog is absolutely nailing it and we get so caught up in capturing amazing shots that time flies by
If we ’ re in an epic location, like Derwentwater, that requires some walking and exploring to get the best possible photos
If your dog needs a little more extra time and care, maybe because they’re a bit more reserved or distracted, which means we take things slower and provide plenty of breaks in between shots
If you ve brought multiple dogs for the session, we ll focus on capturing both individual portraits and group shots While this may seem straightforward, it can sometimes be a little tricky some dogs may not feel comfortable standing too close to one another No worries! We’ll take individual photos and, if needed, merge them together later during post-processing to create a beautiful group photo So if they’re being a bit of a diva and not quite cooperating, don t stress! We ve got it covered
Expect the session to include plenty of walking and stopping as we make our way to each of my usual photo spots at the location This helps your dog stay engaged and relaxed, allowing us to capture those authentic moments
And here s a reminder during the session: keep calm, and carry on If your dog isn t quite getting the hang of things right away, try not to get stressed They’re likely just trying to figure out what’s happening, and that can be a bit confusing
So, put yourself in your dog’s shoes. Stay calm, keep your energy positive, and remember that your dog will pick up on your emotions. If you ’ re relaxed and composed, your dog will be more likely to follow suit and feel at ease. With this approach, we’ll be able to capture natural, beautiful images of your dog, while keeping the experience fun and stress-free for both of you.

There are so many different types of shots I love to include in my sessions, each designed to showcase your dog’s personality and capture a range of adorable and dynamic moments From classic poses to action shots, I always try to mix things up to get the most variety If there’s a rock, a stump, or any natural element we can use, you can be sure we’ll try to get your dog’s paws up on it! Here are a few examples of the types of photos we may capture during the session:
Headshot / Close-Up – A beautiful close-up to showcase your dog s unique expression and personality These shots are perfect for capturing the soulful look in their eyes
Action Shot – Whether they’re running, jumping, or chasing a ball, action shots really bring out the energy and excitement in your dog These moments can be so fun to capture, and they show your dog in their element
Paws-Up – This is a pose we’ll use quite often Whether it’s a rock, a tree stump, or a log, anything that can get your dog’s front paws elevated, we’ll use it to create a gorgeous shot It’s one of my go-to poses because it gives the shot such a lovely composition and adds a bit of height to the photo
Looking-Up – A shot where your dog gazes up at you, or even towards the camera This one often requires a bit of a treat to hold their attention, but it always results in a heartmelting moment
Lying Down – If they ll cooperate outdoors (which can sometimes be tricky!), getting your dog to lay down in a natural, relaxed way can create a serene and adorable shot I ll usually wait until they’re fully comfortable before attempting this one
In addition to these standard shots, if you want to add some extra cuteness to the session, you might want to work on a few tricks beforehand For example, getting your dog comfortable with the paws-up pose will be really helpful for the session, as it s one we use frequently
If you have two dogs, teaching them to hug can be a sweet and endearing addition to the session, as well! Another fun trick you could try is ‘head down’ or ‘flat down’, where your dog lies down with their head flat on the ground It s absolutely adorable and makes for a perfect shot
Working on these little tricks not only adds variety to the session but also brings out your dog’s best sides, allowing for those extra-special moments that we’ll be able to capture
G e t I n v o l v e d
I understand that not everyone feels comfortable in front of the camera – myself included It can feel a little awkward at first, and that’s completely okay However, I always encourage pet owners to take the opportunity to share a few special moments with their furry companions if they feel up to it
After all, it’s not every day you get to celebrate the unique and loving bond you share Chances are, the only photos you have together are those casual snaps others have taken on their phones, or perhaps some quick selfies While those are wonderful memories, there’s something truly special about having professional photos that highlight the deep connection between you and your pet These images can serve as timeless keepsakes, capturing the essence of your relationship in a way that’s far beyond the typical snapshot
I understand that being in front of the camera can feel daunting, but rest assured, we have a variety of poses and settings that will make you feel at ease Whether you want to cuddle up with your pet, share a quiet moment, or showcase your personalities together, we’ll work with you to create natural, heartfelt photos
You don’t need to worry about being overly posed – it’s all about capturing those authentic moments that will make you smile every time you look at them
In the end, these photos are more than just pictures; they re memories frozen in time, allowing you to look back and relive the love and joy you share with your pet And if you ' re still unsure, we can always start slow, giving you the time and space to feel comfortable and confident

I’ve got a few creative ideas that allow you to be included without needing to be front and center These poses help capture your bond with your furry friend in unique, meaningful ways, all while keeping you at ease
Here are a few ideas we can try during your session to celebrate your connection:
Middle of the Legs: This is a simple yet intimate pose where you stand facing the camera, positioning your dog between your legs Whether your dog is sitting or standing, you’ll only be visible from the waist down, creating a more subtle and relaxed image This is a great way to feel connected without needing to be the focus of the photo
Eye to Eye: One of my personal favorites, this pose involves a close-up of you and your dog’s faces The shot is taken from a little further back, then cropped in closer during editing to really emphasize the bond There's something special about eye contact – it’s often said that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and when it comes to pets, eye contact can truly capture the depth of the love you share
Looking Up – Between the Legs: A variation of the "Middle of the Legs" pose, this one has your dog looking up at you from between your legs, adding a slightly different perspective It s a lovely way to feature the connection between you both, with a unique angle that s still comfortable for you and your pet
Paw in Hand / Nose Boop: Ever thought about being a hand model? Just kidding – but this pose focuses on your hands, creating a beautiful, intimate moment There are a few ways we can approach this:
Your dog places their paw gently in your hand, with their full body visible in the shot
A close-up of your dog’s paw resting in your hand, with that small moment being the main focus of the image
Another idea involves both hands cupping your dog’s face loosely while they look up at you (only your hands are visible in this shot)
Lastly, we can capture a playful nose boop, with your dog gazing at you as you boop their nose with yours It s a sweet, fun moment that shows your bond
Back to Front: This pose is always a hit with both me and my clients Depending on your pet’s size, you’ll face away from the camera while your dog faces the lens This could be done with you both sitting or standing, and can include a look over your shoulder to share a moment with your pet It s a beautiful way to focus on the connection between you without having to be fully in the shot
These are just a few of the ways we can include you in the photos without making you feel too exposed Whether you want to stay in the background or be subtly featured, there are endless possibilities to capture the love you share with your pet in a way that feels comfortable and natural Let’s make sure every moment is meaningful!
Clothing Colors: You’ll want to avoid blending in with the background – not just for aesthetic reasons, but also to make the editing process easier on me We want you to stand out, but in a way that feels effortless
I recommend sticking to plain, solid-colored clothing whenever possible Avoid bold patterns or busy stripes, unless they’re minimal and subtle Neutral tones like beige, grey, browns, and soft earth tones tend to work beautifully and complement the environment Black can also be a great option, depending on the setting
Try to steer clear of bright, loud colors like reds, hot pinks, or neon shades, as they can be distracting and draw attention away from the real focus – you and your pet
What Type of Clothing: At the end of the day, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in what you ' re wearing If that means a casual look, like jeans and a plain t-shirt, go for it –simplicity can be incredibly elegant If you ' re feeling like dressing up a little, a nice dress with tights or even something a little more formal is totally welcome!
For Groups: If there are multiple people involved in the shoot, try to coordinate your outfits so that they complement each other Matching your colors or sticking to a similar style can help create a cohesive and polished look without feeling too "matchy-matchy " Think of it as a way to subtly show that you ' re all a team, without drawing too much attention to the clothing itself
Ultimately, wear what makes you feel good, as it will come across in the photos and make for a relaxed, enjoyable experience!

While horse photography offers a different dynamic than pets like dogs, the beauty of working with horses is that they can show a range of powerful and elegant expressions Here are a few types of shots we can aim for during your session:
Action Shots: Whether you ’ re riding or your horse is simply galloping across a field, action shots can highlight the power and grace of the horse We ll capture their movement from different angles, allowing the energy of the moment to shine through
We can also capture jumping shots or other performance-related poses, depending on your discipline and style.
Horse and Rider Action: For rider and horse portraits in motion, we can focus on capturing the harmony and connection between you and your horse during cantering, trotting, or jumping These action-packed moments convey a deep sense of teamwork and unity
Headshots: Close-up shots of your horse’s face can really bring out their personality These are perfect for showcasing the unique features of your horse, from their expressive eyes to their mane and coat
We’ll also get some candid shots of you interacting with your horse, allowing for those beautiful, intimate moments that reflect your bond
Still Shots: If you prefer a quieter, more intimate moment, we can do posed still shots with you and your horse in a peaceful setting These shots often focus on the bond between you two, with your horse standing or grazing calmly beside you
When preparing for your equine photography session, your outfit plays an important role in creating the perfect shot Whether you ' re going for a classic riding look or something more magical for a fantasy-style shoot, the key is feeling confident and comfortable
Clothing Colors: Just like with other photoshoots, you ll want to choose colors that won t clash with the background or your horse Neutral tones work wonderfully, so consider shades like soft beiges, grays, whites, or earthy tones like browns and greens These will not only complement your horse but also the natural surroundings If you ' re aiming for a more striking, elegant look, black can be beautiful and timeless
If you re planning for a fantasy or beauty-inspired shoot, long, flowing dresses or gowns can add a stunning, dramatic touch Think about elegant, flowing fabrics that move well with the wind When choosing colors for this style, soft pastels or even jewel tones like deep blues, emeralds, and purples can look amazing, but avoid overly bright or neon colors, as they can be too distracting
For Riders: If you ' re going for a more traditional riding session, smart riding attire like fitted breeches, a tailored shirt, or a jacket works perfectly If you re incorporating action shots, ensure your riding gear is comfortable and practical, as we want to capture you and your horse in the best way possible without distractions
Viewing & Design Appointment
Viewing and design appointments are held at my home studio in Workington These sessions usually last around 1 hour, but the actual time can vary depending on how long it takes you to choose your images and decide on the perfect products
When you arrive, I’ll begin with a brief explanation of the process so you know exactly what to expect We’ll start with a slideshow presentation on the big screen, where you’ll get a first look at your images This gives you an exciting preview of the session, set to music, and lets you see your photos in the best possible way
Once the slideshow is over, we ll move to the main screen, where I ll display your entire gallery in more detail You ll also have access to my luxury product guide, showcasing the different options available I offer a range of premium products, including folio boxes, wall art, and digital images You’ll have the chance to see and feel the quality of these items in person, making it easier for you to envision how they’ll fit into your home or personal collection
During this time, I ll guide you through each product to help you find the one that best suits your style and needs Whether you ' re looking for a statement piece of wall art, a beautifully curated folio box to showcase your favorite photos, or digital images for personal use, there’s something for every taste
The goal of this appointment is to ensure you walk away with the perfect combination of images and products to preserve the special moments we captured during your session
Online galleries also available upon request!
Editing & Delivery Process
The time it takes to edit your chosen images depends on a few factors, such as my current workload and whether I’m in a particularly busy period, which can happen at random times throughout the year It also depends on how many images you ’ ve selected I manually edit each photo to my unique, signature style, and the time required for each edit can vary Some images may take as little as 15 minutes, while others that require more detailed work could take up to 60 minutes
While I would love to spend all day editing, I do need to take breaks (I’m a migraine sufferer, unfortunately!), and I also have to manage other admin tasks like answering emails and enquiries It’s a one-woman show here at Pet Paparazzi maybe one day I’ll get a robot to help with the admin work!
Typically, I aim to have all edits completed within 2-4 weeks following your viewing appointment
Artwork Orders & Delivery
Any orders, including prints, folio boxes, or wall art, are placed during your viewing and design appointment
Once your order has been placed, please allow up to 2-3 weeks for delivery When your artwork arrives, I thoroughly quality check everything to ensure it meets the high standards I set for my business
In the meantime, I can email you any digital images you ’ ve selected, so you don’t have to wait for the physical artwork to enjoy your photos!
Overall Timeline
The entire process from your viewing and design appointment to receiving your products usually takes around 4-8 weeks During busier periods, this timeline could be a little longer, but I ll keep you updated every step of the way!
