P E T-X i C A S E S T U DY Lauren Moses, aged 23, graduated from the University of Chester with a degree in politics and international relations but had to leave her part time admin position at a veterinary practice in when she moved to Peterborough. She was referred to PET-Xi by Peterborough Job Centre as part of the sector-based work academy, designed to help employers meet their future recruitment needs. Given Lauren’s experience and interests, she was identified as an ideal candidate for a work coach role within the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Support provided by PET-Xi Lauren took part in PET-Xi’s Level 2 team leading course, a qualification aimed at individuals aspiring to become a team leader. The course gives learners an understanding of the principles of resource management, planning and allocating work, performance evaluation and the importance of information exchange and feedback. She also took part in the training provider’s Level 2 customer services programme and has been given support with the civil service application process. PET-Xi recruitment and progressions coordinator Adam Ashley said: “The sector-based work academy gives people an end destination to work towards, which in Lauren’s case is a DWP work coach. “Lauren has gained some excellent experience in admin and also has her degree, so she was advised to complete our team leading course to not only provide her with the skills to help secure a civil service position, but also help her progress into a team leader role should one become available. “She did extremely well on the course and also completed our customer service programme to develop her skills further.
