The Power of Volunteering

What Key Clubbers did during their summer season.

Summer is primetime for volunteering and spending time with friends and family out in the warm sun. But as the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread across the world at an incomprehensible pace, it became evident that the summer of 2020 was not going to be anywhere close to typical. Even though the majority of people kept to their little bubble at home, Key Club was a key factor in motivating members of Plano East Senior High School to create and find ways to bring service into their community.

Participating in Key Club during the 2019- 2020 school year has allowed many Key Clubbers to explore their interests in volunteering and give back to the community. Many of our rising seniors took the opportunity to find charities such as The Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s COVID-19 Relief Fund and Minnie’s Food Pantry.

Megan Menendez says. Menendez has been a part of Plano East Key Club since her junior year and truly enjoys the unforgettable experiences of volunteering with a community like Key Club. But volunteering was not the only thing happening this summer; many students took it upon themselves to develop a system to create baked treats or goody bags to give to friends.

As we navigate through the next school year, Plano East Key Club hopes to tie everyone back together safely and excitingly through service.
