Key Club Gone Virtual
What the virtual world of Key Club looks like.
Plano East Senior High has decided to place many extracurricular activities either on hold or virtually through Zoom or Google Meets. With these measures taken into account, our sponsor and officer team have decided to hold meetings and service activities online. After preparing since June, Plano East Key Club’s first meeting will be held on September 4th and monthly meetings will hopefully continue through an online format like Google Meets every 2nd Friday of each month.

Exploring the world of virtual volunteering has been a hurdle, but our team has found that there are many service opportunities that we can feature. Some opportunities include sending a virtual note of hope to families and healthcare workers through March of Dimes, recording a podcast on a class that you have or are currently taking through the Plano East based Learning Cast program, and transcribing historical collections through Smithsonian to name a few. Many organizations have switched to allowing virtual service opportunities and in response to this, Key Club has decided to lower the service requirement to 12 hours a semester. Every month, the informational meetings will provide 3-4 service opportunities for members to gain a sufficient amount of hours.
An exciting addition to Plano East Key Club this year is a member of the month. Each month, one member will be chosen based on the number of hours completed during the month, attendance of meetings, and general engagement in the club. At each meeting following the first, the officer team will recognize the member of the month and send them a certificate via email, as well as feature them in an article of the newsletter.
