2024 Annual Report

Welcome to Perth College Foundation

The Perth College Foundation was founded in 2012 with the primary goal of ensuring long-term and lasting financial stability for Perth College. Our collective efforts ensure Perth College maintains its status as a top tier educational institution for girls by raising and managing funds dedicated to scholarships, facilities, and programs.

The Foundation’s ongoing commmitment is to foster a giving culture, cultivate caring, courageous, and capable girls into remarkable women, and to support holistic and well-rounded enhancement of education for girls. We strive to accomplish this alongside all those who believe in a future where women have the power to shape their own destiny.

The generosity and dedication of our donors and supporters strengthens the future of the School and plays a vital role in shaping generations of remarkable women to come.

We warmly welcome you to review our 2024 Annual Report and be part of our vibrant and impactful giving community.

A
‘remarkable community’ – inspiring and supporting remarkable women.

Message from Chair of Foundation

The past twelve months have been monumental for the Foundation, and it’s my privilege to share the 2024 Annual Report with you. We began the year with a healthy dose of optimism and a growing corpus of $24.9 million, driven by our vision to deepen our impact on the School in meaningful ways. It was a year of both heft and heart. We proudly secured Windsor Hall, celebrated the official opening of our world-class, three-storey Ikey Broadfoot Building, and closed the year with our corpus at $26.5 million.

ACKNOWLEDGING OUR SHARED SUCCESS

This remarkable year was made possible by the dedication of many. I’m proud to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our Board members - Stephanie Fullarton, Mark Mendelawitz, Yvette Jones, Rob Jackson, Monique Connolly, and Al Taylor - whose commitment continues to shape the School’s long-term future.

This past year also marked a significant leadership transition, with the successful appointment of our new Principal. We are incredibly grateful to Clare Johansen for her leadership as Interim Principal, guiding both the School and the Foundation with strength and clarity, and for seamlessly passing the baton to Sarah McGarry, who joined us in Term Four.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the 2024 Finance leadership team—Sharon Caspersz, David Timmins, and Tony Gooey—for their essential support throughout this period of change. We now look forward to working with the incoming 2025 team, led by Candice Heapes.

Finally special thanks to Trish van Leeuwen, our Head of Philanthropy who deserves special recognition. Trish has been instrumental in implementing every initiative, big and small, for the Foundation.

As someone who profoundly understands the gravity and privilege of our mission, I believe the cultural fabric of our Foundation is woven from our common Perth College values, as well as the thoughtful contributions of each individual. It’s truly an honour to be part of this collective effort.

STRATEGIC GROWTH AND TRANSFORMATIVE IMPACT

The Foundation’s acquisition of Windsor Hall, after 90 years, marked a pivotal milestone in our commitment to securing Perth College’s long-term financial future. Guided by our core principles, we aim to achieve this security through the careful allocation of funds to priority projects, including land acquisitions and refurbishments, aligned with the Perth College Council’s long-term Master Plan. This purchase was the culmination of months of careful deliberation, due diligence, and negotiation, along with a thorough consideration of its strategic significance to the School. Many of us, myself included, have admired this beautiful building imagining the possibilities. We are thrilled that the addition of 1,892 square meters of land between the Science Building and the Founders Centre for Early Learning is now part of our campus, and will unlock many new opportunities for the School in the years to come.

In 2024, we were proud to support the official opening of the Ikey Broadfoot Building with a $500,000 contribution towards its fit-out. We also launched our Annual Appeal to raise funds for the upgrade of the Food Technology Kitchen and successfully installed new air-conditioning units over the 2024 - 2025 summer. As the education landscape evolves, the dedicated efforts of the School Leadership Team ensure facilities continue to align with the evolving needs of students now and in the future. It is heartening that our Foundation has the capacity to contribute to these endeavours.

Lastly, we proudly awarded our first two Audrey Fairchild Scholarships, welcoming our new scholars and their families into our Perth College community. Our Scholarship Fund continues to provide opportunities for a Perth College education and share inspirational testimonials from Recipients in our report.

A YEAR OF HEARTFELT CONNECTION

This truly has been a heartfelt year, marked not only by significant milestones but also by the remarkable generosity and belief of our entire Foundation community. From the bottom of our hearts, we extend our deepest gratitude to all our donors. Your unwavering support, trust in our vision, and shared passion for Perth College have made every single achievement possible - from the ambitious acquisition of Windsor Hall, to the vibrant opening of the Ikey Broadfoot Building, and the hopeful launch of our new scholarships. You are, quite simply, the bedrock of our success, and for that, we are profoundly thankful.

As we look ahead, 2025 marks the beginning of a new chapter and a fresh season for the Foundation. With a strong and inspired Leadership Team now firmly in place, we are filled with excitement to build upon the remarkable legacy we’ve created together. Every strategic acquisition, every building we open, and every program we support is a direct investment in the future of our Students. It is all about ensuring Perth College continues to provide leading and exceptional education that inspires and empowers,, not just for today, but for generations to come.

We cannot wait to witness the transformative impact these advancements will have on each of our students, helping them grow into curious, capable, and caring leaders in an ever-changing world.

It is a privilege to move forward with you.

With gratitude,

Message from Perth College Principal

The 2024 academic year at Perth College has been a time of renewed purpose, meaningful achievement, and deepened connection across our community.

I had the great privilege of joining the School as Principal in Term Four, and I’d like to begin by expressing my thanks to the Leadership Team and to Interim Principal Ms Clare Johansen, whose steady hands and caring hearts guided the School through the early part of the year.

As I stepped into this role, my immediate focus was on understanding the essence of Perth College. I concentrated on three key priorities: building strong relationships, nurturing a culture of excellence, and celebrating the rich legacy that defines our School. These goals guided my conversations with students, families, staff, and Old Girls, and helped me begin to appreciate the enduring values instilled by the founding Sisters—values that continue to shape our shared journey today.

One of the most meaningful moments in my early days was asking our staff and students to share a single word that captures Perth College’s greatest strength. Words like community, support, spirit, and opportunity came up repeatedly, affirming what I had already begun to feel: that Perth College is a place bound together by genuine connection and a deep sense of purpose.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND STUDENT SUCCESS

Our students continued to achieve remarkable academic outcomes in 2024. We proudly celebrated a 100% WACE graduation rate, with 70% of our ATAR students attaining scores above 70, and 16% completing a VET qualification. These results reflect not only the diligence of our students but also the extraordinary dedication of our teachers and support staff.

We were thrilled to see eight of our subjects rank in the top 15 across Western Australia. These results reinforce our commitment to academic rigour and our belief in nurturing every girl’s individual potential.

Several students also earned prestigious scholarships, recognising excellence, academic endeavour, leadership and sport. Naomi Lim was awarded the John Curtin Scholarship at Curtin University, while Stella Freeman received the highly competitive Fogarty Scholarship at UWA. Internationally, Alice Tonts secured a Golf Scholarship at the University of Toledo, and Alessia Cirocco earned a Rowing Scholarship to La Salle University in Philadelphia.

I am constantly inspired by the resilience, drive, and humility shown by our students. Their success is not theirs alone — it is made possible by the unwavering encouragement of families, the commitment of teachers, and the incredible support of our wider Perth College community.

WELLBEING: GROWING INSIDE AND OUT

In 2024 we began a comprehensive review of InsideOut to ensure it continues to meet the evolving needs of our students. As our girls navigate an increasingly complex world, we are renewing our focus on resilience, emotional literacy, and meaningful relationships.

We know that wellbeing is foundational to learning and growth. Our work in this space is enriched by the involvement of our families, whose partnership is vital in helping each student build the confidence and adaptability they need to thrive. InsideOut remains an integral part of the Perth College student experience and we are excited to see the next evolution of this in 2025.

COMMUNITY: THE HEART OF PERTH COLLEGE

One of the most energising aspects of 2024 was the renewed energy across our community. The reconstitution of the Friends of Perth College was a particularly uplifting milestone, bringing together parents and volunteers with a shared commitment to strengthening our School. The election of new office bearers and the enthusiasm with which families stepped forward reminded me just how powerful community involvement can be.

Our connection with Old Girls, past families, and future generations remains one of Perth College’s greatest strengths. By fostering open, inclusive dialogue and honouring tradition while embracing innovation, we ensure our School remains a place where every voice is valued.

TRANSFORMING SPACES, HONOURING LEGACIES

A major highlight of the year was the opening of the Ikey Broadfoot Building, a stunning new Junior School facility named in honour of a beloved former staff member. This three-level building features flexible learning spaces, collaborative zones, and cutting-edge technology, designed to support the kind of learning that prepares our girls for the future.

Standing inside that building for the first time, I felt the presence of both legacy and possibility. It is a powerful symbol of what can be achieved when vision and community come together.

This is where I must emphasise: none of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors and the strategic support of the Perth College Foundation. Philanthropy plays a pivotal role in turning aspiration into reality, from scholarships and campus improvements to new programs that expand opportunity for students. I am deeply grateful to every individual and family who contributes to our School, whether through financial gifts, time, or advocacy.

The Ikey Broadfoot Building is more than a facility - it’s a visible testament to the power of collective belief in the mission of Perth College. It represents what we can achieve together for current and future generations of students.

SPORTING EXCELLENCE

Our girls continued to shine in co-curricular life, particularly in sport, with Perth College securing the IGSSA Athletics Championship title for the second consecutive year. This incredible achievement reflects the hard work and passion of our students, staff and coaches, and our emphasis on holistic developmentwhere personal excellence, teamwork, and resilience are nurtured alongside academic achievement.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2025

As we move into 2025, our direction is clear. We will continue to uphold academic standards, refine curriculum design, and strengthen literacy and numeracy in the Junior School. We’re also focused on embedding reflective practices that empower students to take greater ownership of their learning.

Strategically, we’ll be undertaking a full review of our Strategic Plan: Towards 2025 and our Campus Master Plan, ensuring we remain innovative, responsive, and aligned with our core values. We will involve students, staff, families, Old Girls, and partners throughout this process—because Perth College’s strength lies in shared ownership of our future.

A CLOSING NOTE OF GRATITUDE

I reflect on 2024 as a year of progress, purpose, and possibility - made possible by dedicated staff, passionate students, and a deeply engaged community.

I also extend my gratitude to our donors, families, Old Girls, and supporters: thank you. Your belief in Perth College enables us to provide a transformative education in an environment grounded in excellence, inclusion, and opportunity.

We look forward with great anticipation to all that we will accomplish together in 2025 and beyond.

Our Impact: A Legacy of Giving

Perth College Foundation has been the quiet force behind transformational change on the Perth College campus, turning aspiration into reality and generosity into lifelong opportunity. We are proud to share some of the tangible outcomes your support has made possible since the Foundation’s inception.

2011 – 2015

GIVING THE GIFT OF EDUCATION

In its formative years, the Foundation focused on opening doors for girls through scholarship funding. During this period, dozens of students were supported through needs based and merit scholarships, providing access to a Perth College education that would have otherwise been out of reach.

These gifts didn’t just change lives, they shaped futures. Many of these students have gone on to excel in their chosen fields, becoming confident, compassionate women contributing meaningfully to their communities.

“As a former member of the Perth College staff for 30 years, I am well aware of the value that a Foundation sponsored scholarship has for each of the recipients. Along with the sound teaching and learning programs, many co-curricular activities are offered across every year level. These encourage the development new skills and interests which positively contribute to personal growth, supported by the School’s rich history and traditions. A Foundation sponsored scholarship offers families the option of considering a Perth College education which otherwise may not be available. I encourage you, as I have, to consider financially supporting the Foundation’s work in providing these unique opportunities.

2016 – 2024

BUILDING HER LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

In recent years, attention turned to upgrading and reimagining the learning and living spaces that make Perth College a second home for so many. Generous donations and contributions have directly supported:

Š The fit-out of Excelsior House

Š Chapel enhancements to preserve its heritage and beauty

Š Significant upgrades to the Boarding House to improve student comfort and wellbeing

Š The fit-out of the new Junior School Building – Ikey Broadfoot Building (2024)

Š Acquisition of Windsor Hall, an important milestone towards building the long-term Master Plan and financial security of Perth College. (2024)

Š Stage 1 of the Food Technology Kitchen redevelopment, including modern air conditioning and ventilation systems. (2024)

These projects have breathed new life into the School campus, ensuring that every girl at Perth College learns in an environment that is modern, inspiring, and fit for the future.

BEQUESTS AND FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

We are sincerely grateful for the generous and significant bequests that have created ‘Named Foundation Scholarships’ and to family members stewarding the wishes of their loved ones. Bequests directed to Scholarships and the extended donor community contributing annually to Scholarships, have a profound impact on the lives of the remarkable young women who are the beneficiaries of these amazing gifts.

This year we acknowledge with gratitude significant bequest donations to scholarships from the Estates of Sandra Gray and Jan Musk, Old Girls of Perth College.

Each project we undertake is guided by our enduring commitment: to give every Perth College student the very best start in life, surrounded by spaces that support their growth, wellbeing, and ambition.

The valued members of our community and their generosity helps us achieve that mission. Together, we are not just constructing and upgrading buildings, we are shaping futures.

2024

A Year in Review

The Perth College Foundation is in its thirteenth year of operation. Significant projects and acquisitions that add value to the School campus and educational opportunities that have been funded by the Foundation include:

IKEY BROADFOOT BUILDING FIT-OUT

The new multi-purpose and Junior School building was officially opened and named the Ikey Broadfoot Building. This state-of-the-art space has been designed to inspire and support students as they grow.

A tribute to Verna ‘Ikey’ Broadfoot, a truly remarkable woman who dedicated 77 years of her life to Perth College – as a student, teacher, and leader, honoured with this building being named after her, ensures ‘Ikey’s’ legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of our community.

A focus of recent Foundation Annual Giving Appeals, donors joined Perth College guests for this milestone occasion, naming reveal, guided building tour, refreshments, and sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this project possible.

The Foundation is proud to have donated funds towards the fit-out of thhe new Ikey Broadfoot Building.

“My name is Ava and I am in year 5. I am new to Perth College this year and learn in the Ikey Broadfoot Building. I like the shared working spaces because they give me opportunities to learn in a quiet and uplifting setting. I love working on the bunks doing recordings for spelling, and extensions for math. I feel lucky to work in beautiful classrooms with friends and teachers. It is incredible to think that I am one of the first girls to use the Ikey Broadfoot Building, which will be a place to learn and to spend time with friends for many others after me, long into the future. Thank you to our school donors and supporters who helped make this joyful building possible.”

Ava Year 5

“My name is Claire, I’m almost eight years old, and I’ve been a Perth College girl since Kindy. I love maths, playing piano and sports – especially being a part of PC mini-squad swimming! This year, we moved into the brand new IB building; and it’s AMAZING! The classrooms are super bright and big, and I love how close they are to each other. Now I feel like everyone is connected. Plus, the new screens in every room are HUGE, so I can see everything easily. Thank you to the donors for our awesome new building. It makes me proud to be learning at Perth College.”

Year 3

WINDSOR HALL ACQUISITION

The Foundation’s acquisition of Windsor Hall marks an important milestone towards our objective of building long-term financial security for Perth College. As our guiding principles state, this will be achieved by judicious allocation of funds to support projects which include land acquisitions and refurbishments in support of the Perth College Council’s long-term Master Plan.

Windsor Hall was built in 1904 and has been owned by the same family for almost 90 years. The property has been on the Council’s Master Plan for many years and this rare acquisition opportunity represents significant potential for the School as it expands its boundary and completes the land holding of the main campus.

The Board would like to thank the generosity of our donors over the years, allowing us to steward and invest their funds into opportunities within our remit. This legacy purchase and the future impact it represents, has only been made possible by each and every one of you.

We are now working closely and prudently with the Council and School Leadership Team on options for Windsor Hall taking into account the evolving education landscape so that the benefits for Perth College students can be maximised.

We are excited about the potential Windsor Hall will bring to Perth College in the coming years and look forward to sharing more with you as plans progress.

Annual Giving Appeal

Our Annual Giving Appeal this year supported an ‘upgrade’ of the Food Technology Kitchen – a space inspiring curiosity, collaboration, and connection.

A multi-purpose and flexible learning space, our Kitchen inspires our students to be interested in food, science, technology, health, wellbeing, collaborative learning, and healthy eating. It educates students on a range of skills including horticulture food hygiene and preparation, cooking, vocations and enterprise – subjects cover both indoor and outdoor learning. The Kitchen is in high use with highly popular practical and theory courses for Food Specialisation run for Years 7 to 12.

Generous donations to our Appeal funded an upgrade of the Food Technology Kitchen and successfully installed new air-conditioning units over the summer break.

42 Total Numbers of Donors

$47,050 2024 Total Amount Raised $12,100 Total for the Scholarship Fund $34,950 Total for the Building Fund

“The new instalment of air-conditioning in the Food Technology Kitchen has been a transformative development that benefits and improves the cooking experiences for all students. It has created a more comfortable and enjoyable work area for us to use. This new installation has greatly improved our abilities to cook and learn in the Food Technology Kitchen and we really appreciate it.”

Living Generously –Growing the Foundation’s Scholarships

Each year, the generosity of our donors and our collaboration with the Old Girls Association have strengthened scholarship opportunities and deepened the bond between the Foundation and the School.

Scholarships help preserve the School’s diversity and excellence by offering a Perth College education to girls who might otherwise be unable to attend, while also providing recipients with an excellent springboard for maximising opportunities throughout their lives.

“The Foundation Boarding Bursary has provided essential financial support that allows boarders like me —who live and study away from home —to access high quality education and opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach. My family and I moved from our home country, Nigeria, to Trinidad and Tobago where we lived for nine years. While the education system there was academically rigorous, it offered very limited co-curricular options, the environment was often unsafe, and we lacked access to essential learning technologies.

In 2017, we relocated to Australia in pursuit of a better lifestyle and settled in Carnarvon, a small town ten hours north of Perth. Although schooling there was safer and offered slightly more extracurricular activities, it did not challenge me academically. In 2022, I was fortunate to receive a scholarship to attend Perth College as a boarder —a decision that changed my life.

My older sister had enrolled the previous year, which made my transition smoother.

Since then, my experience at Perth College has been nothing short of transformative. I’ve formed close friendships, created unforgettable memories, had the opportunity to play netball competitively, and gained access to an excellent standard of education. Being here has allowed me to stay ambitious, push myself to achieve my goals and work to set up my future for success. Most importantly, I’ve grown as a person through the many life-changing experiences I’ve had —experiences that have helped shape my character and who I am today.”

Foundation Boarding Bursary Scholarship

Scholarship Recipients

The influence of receiving a scholarship on a student’s education and future prospects is profound and undeniable, as reflected in the heartfelt testimonials we’ve received from this year’s students and Foundation scholarship recipients.

“The Scholarship that I received in 2022 is called the Margaret and Patricia Feilman InsideOut Scholarship and is awarded to a new student entering years 10 or 11 who may not have been otherwise able to attend Perth College. It is an absolute privilege to have been awarded such a life changing opportunity and it means the world to me.

Without my scholarship, I would not have been able to attend such an incredible school, that has allowed me to access so many opportunities that I would have never come across in my hometown of Dampier. Attending PC has not only allowed me to push myself out of my comfort zone academically but also socially and with my extracurriculars. I have made incredible friends, been able to try so many new sports in the IGGSA program, and get back involved with the Drama, something that has always been a passion of mine.

The Drama program at PC is absolutely incredible and it has been so great to get involved in all the different performances that occur throughout the year, such as group devised plays, monologue nights and the senior musical.

These activities allowed me to make connections with friends of all year groups as well as gave me a chance to share in the joy of performing and creativity.

All these incredible experiences and the memories made along the way would not have existed for me without my scholarship, and for that I am incredibly thankful to all the people who have helped me get to where I am today.”

Scholarship Recipients

“Being at this school has opened so many doors already, I’ve made amazing friends, joined IGSSA teams and Perth College clubs. I already understand what PC Pride means, and I feel so lucky to be part of it. I’m incredibly proud to call myself a PC girl, especially because my mum went here too. It feels really special to follow in her footsteps and be part of this community. I know that not everyone gets a chance like this, and I don’t take it for granted.”

“This scholarship has opened up so many opportunities. Coming from a small country school, boarding has been a big challenge but brought many positives - making friends from across the state, gaining independence, and being introduced to many new things. It has improved my access to academic support and connected me to a broader range of specialist teachers and teaching styles. Perth College has immersed me in an environment where people are motivated and passionate about learning and trying new things.”

“I am very grateful to go to this school and take every opportunity to try new experiences. I am rowing at the moment; it’s so fun and a great community were everyone rallies around you. I am very grateful for my education and don’t waste the opportunity that has been given to me as I would like to become a politician. There are so many different girls with different backgrounds and hobbies. I have had the good fortune of making friends with people who have similar interests and personal drive but also seen different lifestyles. I am driven to do something to change the world.”

“When I received this Scholarship, I was so excited and for all the amazing opportunities I could be a part of and has helped me achieve my goals and find my passions. It has connected me with older and younger students with the same scholarship, it’s been amazing to have support around the school in different year groups. I’m extremely grateful for everything this scholarship has given me so far and looking forward to the rest of senior school and all the memorable experiences.”

“I am very grateful for my scholarship and so happy to be able to follow in my mum’s footsteps of being a PC girl. I come from a very small-town community. It has been an adjustment but with the help of the teachers I am feeling much more certain of my study skills. Perth College is preparing me for the time I step outside of my schooling and giving me confidence to make decisions to be able to achieve my dreams. I look forward to giving back in the future.“

“When I received the scholarship, I was thrilled and deeply grateful for the opportunity. It’s enabled me to fully immerse myself in extracurricular activities. Rowing is a passion and I competed at the Australian Rowing Championships in both the single and double scull events. It was an incredible experience to race against some of the best athletes from across the country, and the memories we made are ones I’ll cherish forever. This scholarship has allowed me to grow and broaden my horizons, giving me every chance to one day find a future where I’m fulfilled and working in a job I truly enjoy.”

“This Bursary means that I get to call myself a Perth College girl. I get the privilege of an excellent well-rounded education and to participate in activities I enjoy including hockey and cross country. I am part of a strong community that is supportive, friendly, and has a strong sisterhood. I have become more resilient while learning important life skills that cannot be learnt in a classroom. It also means I am lucky to go to the same school that my mum and grandma went to. I am grateful to be part of a community that is not only strong and supportive but also giving me an opportunity’s lots of people aren’t lucky enough to receive.”

“I am from a small town in the wheatbelt called Wongan Hills, that only offers a district high school that goes to year 10 and doesn’t have anywhere near as many opportunities as Perth College does. This scholarship has helped me in so many ways. Not only does it benefit me but also my family, knowing I am getting a better education, gaining independence, and learning so many new things. But for me, being able to meet new people and make so many new and exciting memories I will cherish forever is a huge privilege. To attend Perth College is a privilege in itself, to be awarded a scholarship to help my family send me to PC was a huge achievement, thank you so much!”

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of Joan and George Lefroy, I am able to attend Perth College and make the most of the incredible opportunities at the school, it has opened doors to experiences I never thought possible. The thing I love most about Perth College is how open the school is. It’s more than students learning reading, writing and arithmetic. It’s a family, with older students helping us with everything from studying for a test, to pointing us in the right direction for our next class. I have friends in all different year levels, and I love how PC encourages that. In my year level, I have people in every single class who I can work with, talk with and laugh with. I have a group of close friends, who are like sisters that I get to choose. I have rarely ever been this close to people my own age, and I am so lucky that I have found them.”

“I remember the day I was offered the Bursary. I was elated to be supported to write my part in the tale of PC whist creating my own story. This Bursary allows me to engage in the exceptional academic programmes and incredible myriad of extracurricular opportunities at PCcompeting in the international round of World Scholars’ Cup, being part of an orchestra, participating in the performing arts community through musicals, and competing in IGSSA and PCNA netball. I’ve created connections across year groups and developing special bonds with the Old Girls through regular “catch ups”. It’s been truly wonderful to create friendships with this special group and witness firsthand the love, commitment and continued engagement with PC from Old Girls across the generations.”

“Receiving the scholarship at Perth College was a transformative moment for me. It alleviated financial stress for my family, allowing me to focus on my studies, passions and explore the endless opportunities Perth College has to offer. Without scholarships like this I wouldn’t be able to attend Perth College and I am very grateful for this opportunity. I have a special interest in the Arts and plan to continue to pursue further learning in this area once I graduate.”

Foundation Engagement

Perth College Foundation events are wonderful occasions to communicate personally with and celebrate all that our valued donors enable us to achieve, meet with staff and students, network amongst each other, and experience some of the superb activities the School organises.

SENIOR MUSICAL OPENING NIGHT VIP FUNCTION

Perth College’s Senior School Musical held in March is always a highly anticipated musical theatre event and wonderful performance, and Betty Blue Eyes was no exception. Perth College presented the WA Premiere of this very British musical, set in a Yorkshire town in 1947, amidst post-war rationing and austerity, full of hilarious and heartfelt songs, high-energy dance numbers, and over-the-top comic moments. It was enthusiastically received by capacity audiences.

The Perth College Foundation Board hosted VIP guests and donors at a preshow event on Opening Night in recognition and stewardship of their support. Chair Angel Chen updated on Foundation developments, and guests had the opportunity to hear about the musical production from Jane Artelaris Head of Performing Arts and Director Tyler Jones. The Show was another smash hit for the performing arts students and staff at the School and thoroughly enjoyed by guests.

JACARANDA SOCIETY

‘CHRISTMAS IN WINTER’

Our Jacaranda Society Members are a much-valued group of donors, predominately ‘Old Girls’ who have informed us they have left a bequest in their Will. Themed ‘Christmas in Winter’, our guests were treated to a festive High Tea and showcase of music student performances. Old Girls and their partners regaled treasured memories and experiences of their School days and notable evolutions on campus such as the new Ikey Broadfoot Building with amazing city views they were enjoying from the upper balcony during morning tea. The gathering celebrated the spirit of togetherness, an unwavering loyalty and gratitude to Perth College, and enduring lifelong connections with each other.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT AND DONOR AFTERNOON TEA

Previously separate events for Perth College and the Perth College Foundation, this year for the first time these events were combined as one. Bringing together new incoming Scholarship Recipients and their families, with donors and supporters donating to and sponsoring the Scholarships. The afternoon tea celebrated the invaluable partnership between the School and Foundation with the gathering highlighting the achievements of scholarship recipients as well as showcasing the impact of donor generosity.

Held in the function room of the new Ikey Broadfoot Building, on her first day in her new role as Principal, Sarah McGarry took up the MC role and hosted presentations.

This year guest speakers were Year 11 Scholarship Recipients Amelia Ammerer and Chimamanda Eze, who spoke with exceptional humility, a sense of humour, and passionately shared their School experience to date; the life changing significance of being a Scholarship Recipient; and with compassion and understanding, told new incoming recipients they had been in their position and were available if they needed support or guidance.

Attended by Council and Foundation Board Members, School Leadership, Scholarship Recipients and their families, generous donors, special guests, and School staff, the function was an undeniable success and palpable combination of excitement and exhilaration from incoming students, grateful families, and donors seeing firsthand the faces of students supported by their valued contributions.

PRESENTATION NIGHT

The School’s annual Presentation Night is an inspiring event that acknowledges and revels in the outstanding achievements of students, recognising academic accomplishment, artistic, musical, creative talent, sporting triumphs and community service and leadership skills. Whilst not a Foundation event, we are delighted to be a part of Perth College’s Presentation Night and continue to sponsor the prestigious Dux of Perth College Prize, awarded to the top academic student in Year 12.

In 2024 the Dux Award winner was Emma Ou with a 99.6 ATAR Score. Emma is also a violin teacher and has been an orchestral musician with the West Australian Youth Orchestra (WAYO) for the past four years.

THE COLOURS OF CHRISTMAS

Our end of year ‘The Colours of Christmas’ celebrated the spirit of togetherness, being surrounded by friends, connectivity, and a sense of community. This was an occassion to share, rejoice, and reflect on the year that has passed, embrace the year ahead, and express an enduring message of gratitude to supporters of the Foundation throughout the year.

Chair Angel Chen shared Foundation achievements throughout the year, and Principal Sarah McGarry reflected on her first term at the School.

Guests embraced the spirit of the night with a splendour of Christmas colour and tinsel boas, with special mention to those who went above and beyond with Christmas jackets, shirts, jumpers, and an Akubra Hat with flashing lights. Official event photos taken and fun photos from the photo booth were testament to the spirit of the evening, an enjoyable night had by all to wrap up a big year.

“Since joining Perth College in Year 7 on an academic and music scholarship, I have always felt incredibly fortunate to be part of such a supportive and empowering community. I am deeply grateful for the many opportunities the school has provided - ones that have profoundly shaped the person I am today. From academics to co-curricular activities to leadership experiences, Perth College has nurtured my passions and encouraged me to strive for continuous personal growth. It is a true honour to have been awarded the Perth College Foundation Dux Award. My time at Perth College has affirmed my strong value for education and highlighted the importance of empowering women to achieve academic excellence.”

Finance Overview

Established in 2012 with a modest corpus but ambitious goals, the Foundation was created to support Perth College’s long-term financial sustainability—particularly as a safeguard against declining government funding. Over the years, this strategic approach has led to a steady increase in the Foundation’s net assets driven by contributions from the Perth College Future Fund, the growing generosity of the Perth College community and the prudent stewardship of the Foundation’s Board.

In 2024, the Foundation continued its focus on raising and managing funds for scholarships, programs, and capital projects. In line with these objectives, the strategic acquisition of Windsor Hall was facilitated by the Foundation, enhancing the School’s campus and longterm infrastructure.

JB Were continued to manage the Foundation’s investment portfolio under the guidance of the Investment Sub-Committee. 2024 proved to be a positive year for investment markets, driven by enthusiasm around artificial intelligence and its potential impact on business and society. The US share market outperformed, led by large technology companies—a trend that benefited the Foundation’s portfolio, with approximately 25% allocated to international equities, delivering strong double-digit returns.

In contrast, the Australian share market experienced mixed results, with strength in the financial sector offset by underperformance in resources. While the Foundation’s Australian equities delivered a positive return, they underperformed the broader index. Pleasingly, the defensive components of the portfolio performed strongly, particularly the corporate credit sleeve, which achieved a 7% return with minimal risk.

Overall, the Foundation’s diversified asset allocation strategy delivered a total return of 6.61%, equating to an increase of nearly $1.6 million across the combined portfolios in 2024. Additionally, as a non-taxed entity, the Foundation benefited from franking credits generated within the portfolios, further enhancing its financial position.

Future Focus

Inspiring collaboration, connection, and community.

Perth College continues to campaign for the pre-eminence of girls’ education and pave the way for thousands of remarkable women to create their place in the world.

The unwavering dedication of the Sisters of the Church to our School community, along with the generosity of our donors, is essential in preserving and sustaining this enduring legacy. The Foundation’s responsibility to govern and steward with integrity has remained resolute, and our dedication to nurturing exceptional women—both today and for generations to come—has been unshakable.

Each year is a stepping-stone aligned with our purpose. We continue to assess and refresh our governing, investment, and strategic policies and plans, as our corpus grows closer to our initial goal.

In this emerging phase of the School’s advancement, the Foundation is committed to working collaboratively and closely with the School to align priorities with forwardthinking strategy and strategic financial planning.

We are persistently working on in-depth audits and evaluation of our investment policies, funds, and the acquisition and distribution of assets, to ensure all funds - donated and invested - are vigorously and diligently managed and gifted with maximum return and meaningful outcomes.

Our 2025 Giving Appeal theme ‘Her future begins here’, will with your support, help the School enhance key spaces – the Chapel, the Theatre, and phase two of the Food Technology Kitchen upgrade - places where young women find voice, creativity, and reflection.

For many families simply accessing excellent education can be a challenge. Our priority to review existing and potential Scholarship offerings with the School is designed to connect more young women with the opportunity of a Perth College education into the future.

Perth College nurtures and shapes well-rounded girls not only to excel academically but gain the essential life skills to help them navigate and thrive in our rapidly changing world.

As we look ahead to the many possibilities and opportunities within the Foundation’s scope, we wholeheartedly embrace the challenge to generate assets that help shape the future direction of the School and create new opportunities for our girls.

No gift is too small.

We invite you to join us in our inspiring pursuit to support remarkable women.

“As I consider myself very fortunate to have been a student at Perth College. I’m sure no small sacrifice on the part of my parents, I would love to see others have the same opportunity. It’s been a long time since, but a lot of the teachers are still with me and, as for the studentsfriends for life. How do you put a value on that?”
