PERFORMANCE POLO Let‘s face it: polo is not a low budget sport. Nevertheless, with less than 30,000 polo players worldwide, few manufacturers of polo gear can afford to invest in innovation and the numbers do not attract any of the big sport‘s brands to polo.

Wooden tennis rackets and golf clubs have long since disappeared, replaced by superior materials and designs. In polo, we still use polo gear that has seen limited innovation since the very beginning, although the cork helmet worn by Mr. Churchill has gone.

Ainsley Polo Ainsley Polo is the creation of two brothers, Ross and Kel Ainsley, who share a world renowned passion and talent for horses and polo.

For many years, Ainsley Polo has produced some of the best polo ponies in the world. Their ponies have taken part in most major tournaments, including the Cartier Queen‘s Cup at Guards, the Gold Cup at Cowdray‘s, the Argentine Open, and New Zealand‘s own Polo Open.

Ross Ainsley, widely considered one of the best polo horsemen of his generation, has now redesigned the polo saddle and tack to help you - pro or amateur - ride and play your very best.

Ainsley Polo bits Three key characteristics set the Ainsley Polo bits apart from most other bits used in polo: 1) Most modern bits are too light and remain up in the horse‘s mouth for too long. These bits have more weight to allow gravity to release the bit instantly, signalling to the horse the request or reward you need it to understand.

2) Many bits do not have a smooth finish. These bits are entirely smooth with no edges to catch any part of the mouth while moving through the mouth or over the tongue, bars or lips.

3) All bits have an even and perfect thickness, creating an even pressure for optimal communication with your horse.

George Wood An accomplished polo player with 38 seasons under his belt and a one time handicap of 4, George Wood combines his playing experience with his 30 years of mallet making experience, and is well aware of the requirements and trends.

For the traditionalists, we maintain the most stringent quality control possible by selecting each cane at source in Jakarta.

No one has devoted more time, effort and finance on the development of the composite mallet. Our fiber cane mallet is the most popular composite polo mallet in the world and the way of the future. They offer huge advantages over other mallets and continue to increase in popularity each year.

For true connoisseurs, we have a „private bin“ of mallets which are selected from the top 10-20% of our canes. Each cane must display the exceptional qualities normally only reserved for a privileged few.

Head protection Given the nature of our sport, accidents do happen, and most of us will experience a fall at some point (a recent study showed that for every 100 hours in the saddle, we will need some kind of medical attention).

Most of the time, we are able to get up and play on, but sometimes we wind up with a concussion or worse. Unfortunately, many polo helmets offer only limited protection and therefore a false sense of security.

With the exception of a few helmets, most polo helmets carry no certification, although all safety products sold in Europe must carry the CE mark as evidence that they have been tested to a specification or standard that meets or exceeds the basic health and safety requirements of the Personal Protection Equipment Directive (89/686/EEC).

This in itself, however, does not necessarily mean that a non-certified helmet does not offer sufficient protection, BUT the vast majority of non-certified helmets do not.

The HPA has now decided to amend the rules as of the beginning of the 2018 season, such that all players and grooms must wear certified helmets, thus bringing polo in line with all other equestrian sports.
