ports are participating in the event which is being produced in partnership with the Tall Ships Challenge Great Lakes 2013 series. Ships are coming from Canada, the United States and Norway and include the Sorlandet, La Revenante, Mist of Avalon, Pride of Baltimore II, St. Lawrence II, Faire Jeanne, The Empire Sandy, The Unicorn, The Peacemaker and the Canguarda. For $12 per person, a passport will be issued and stamped, on each ship visited. All other events are free, Burns said of the festival. Shuttles are being planned for, and a Giant Tiger train will be utilized that weekend as well. “The goal of this team and this festival is to make it an annual event with a heritage theme for Brockville,” he said. In fact, six members of the committee whom are working hard to put the festival together, had been involved with Riverfest. The planning committee for the event consists of representation from various areas of the community, working with Dave Paul, director of economic development for the city. Burns explained other grants have been applied for and it is hoped more good news will

come in the weeks ahead. “We are proud to invest in these activities, which will highlight the role that Brockville played in this defining moment of our history,” said Brown in a press release. “This will provide an opportunity to learn more about the heroes who defended our land in the fight for Canada.” “The 1812 Brockville signature commemoration of this war enables our river city to create a sustaining annual tourism festival aligned to the community’s strongest promotional assets, being our heritage and the mighty St. Lawrence River,” said David Henderson, Brockville Mayor. The federal funding announced that day was provided through Canadian Heritage’s 1812 Commemoration Fund. The fund supports community based projects which provide a greater awareness and understanding of the importance of the conflict in our history. Also on that same weekend in Brockville will be the 1000 Islands Wine and Food Festival and the 1000 Islands Jazz and Blues Festival.
