QUICK CHANGE A female driver was uninjured early last Thursday when the car she was driving careened into Kal Tire in Perth. According to Krista Strachan, whose parents Garry and Linda Gemmill own the business at 15 Lanark Road, no one was in the waiting room at the time of the collision. “It was just by luck that no one was in the waiting room at that time,” she said. “We had it cleaned out and boarded up that afternoon and it was business as usual.”

EMC News - Veronica Airth, owner of Perth Picture Framing and Gallery Perth, is a big supporter of the popular Perth Autumn Studio Tour and its artist. To celebrate the Perth Autumn Studio Tours’ 20th anniversary, Gallery Perth held an open house to offer refreshments and introduce the public to some of the artists on the tour, as well as other artists that are profiled in the gallery. “I am honoured to promote the talented and resourceful artists that continue to live according to creative and sustainable principals,” says Airth. The Tour has been happening on the Thanksgiving weekend for the last 20 years. This year the tour falls on Oct. 6, 7 and 8 and runs between

10 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily and admission is free. There will be a total of 20 artists presenting their art along the scenic route that takes visitors on a picturesque journey throughout a 25km area just outside of Perth with the farthest stop being just a short drive outside of Maberly off Hwy 7. The artisans will be collectively featured at seven different locations to minimize the driving time between venues. This year, visitors will be given a ballot to win a $200 gift certificate redeemable from any of the participating artists on the tour. Visitors of the tour can expect a large variety of art mediums, including such things as hand crafted canoes, rock sculpture, wood etching, jewelry, paintings and pottery. Ann Chambers, a potter on the Perth Autumn Studio
Tour, relocated to the area three years ago because of how many artists reside in the area. “I liked how rich the community was in artists and during the tour, the whole community just comes alive. “In previous years we’ve seen around 3,000 or so visitors on the tour.” Chambers also noted that the tour is one of the major income sources for these artists and that the Harvest Lunch served up at the parent run Brooke Valley School on the route, is one of the schools major fundraisers for the year to support itself.
