EMC News – The Perth Youth Action Committee (YAK) is now $949 the richer thanks to an area network of Anglican churches. The Anglican Parish of Maberly-Lanark has been taking part in a second, five-year program of donations and “we have about $5,000 to give to local charities,” said organizer Anne Graham of Lanark, who presented YAK with a cheque on Wednesday, Aug. 22. About 50 per cent of the funds went towards diocese programs, while the remaining 50 per cent went towards charities chosen by the four churches in the parish – St. John in Balderson, St. Paul in Lanark, St. Alban’s in Maberly and St. Stephen’s in Brook.

the Wheels of Hope program, which gets cancer patients to and from their chemotherapy treatments, as well as money to reconstruct St. Jude’s Cathedral in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Throughout the five years, “each of these charities will continue to receive donations.” Graham added that “we
were just overwhelmed,” by the extent of parishioners’ giving. The program is called the “Growing in Faith Together Gift program,” and is made up entirely of individual donations. “People were visited in the congregation, to have it explained (to them),” said Graham of the home visits. “We’ve just been overwhelmed by the support and to have it come back to our area. It’s pretty exciting for us as a group to be able to do that.” She added that the charities who were contacted about the money were “very pleased,” to hear the good news. “The idea was to bring us together and I think it has,” she said.
