EMC News - Campbellford - “We are hopeful the application by Blommer Chocolate will identify how the issue will be addressed then the control equipment can be installed and move forward without causing any more noise impacts.” Those are the words of Gary Muloin, environmental officer with the Ministry of Environment. He was responding to questions from EMC about allegations by a local resident that the company had installed some equipment without getting the proper approvals, resulting in noise levels that became a concern for those living nearby. Muloin did admit approval is necessary as MOE regulates air and noise emission levels according to Ontario’s Environmental Protection Act. He told EMC that Blommer Chocolate has hired an acoustical consultant to ex-

amine noise levels and a report will be going to the MOE. “I don’t have confirmation it was exceeded but the preliminary info looks like it was above the limit,” he said. “The law says you must have approval. When I followed up I just let them know,” he told EMC. Concerned resident Daniel DeKuyper who lives on Second Street near Blommer Chocolate has written letters to local newspapers and to Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development and Innovation, about the situation and his frustration. “Were you aware, sir, that Blommer Chocolate failed to apply to MOE for approval of this new machinery? And that decibel readings at the source of the ventilation on this equipment is 105 db, much, much higher than the approved limit of 45 db?,” he wrote. Please see “Company ” on page 5

EMC Lifestyles - Hastings - It was an evening of celebration and remembrance for members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 106 in Hastings Saturday during the branch’s annual honours and awards gala. It was an evening to reflect on the sacrifices veterans made for the country and the work that the Branch 106 founding members did to establish the organization as a vital and thriving part of the community and surrounding area. Gala organizers made a point of recognizing World War II veteran Ab Wellman, who was in attendance, and those who were not able to be at the dinner: Albert Nelson, Robert West, Myrle McRae, Gordon Holden, John Nelson, Raymond Leonard, Joe Reeves and John Luther. World War II widows Edna Craighead and Bessie Scriver were also part of the Please see “Loyal” on page 3
