"Grampa" as he was commonly called celebrated his eighty- second birthday on July 30th 1950, and his Diamond Wedding anniversary on October 13th of the same year. Born about a mile outside of Quebec City, he was one of a large French family. He has very little recollection of his father, and his mother passed away when he was quite young, forcing him to be put into an orphanage at the age of 10. He spent his early teens working in a shoe factory before coming west to Revelstoke (then named Farwell) in 1886 to work on the C.P.R. snow sheds. He had a hard time to become acclimatized having to learn to speak English. Life in those days was hard and tough for young fellows making a living. Having resided there for twenty-seven years he and his family moved to Nakusp in 1912.
