September 23 is D Day for the Club.Depending on how the votes fall, the doors could stay open as management of the club is transferred to the Principal Body Corporate, or access to the pool and gym could be turned off while the developer turns its attention to finding an alternative plan for the site.

The time has come to have your say on the future of the Recreation Club.

Voting papers have gone out to property owners within the seven subsidiary body corporates schemes operating in the Ridges seeking a Yes or a No on whether FKP/Aveo transfers the Rec Club to the Ridges Principal Body Corporate.Theterms of the deal being voted upon are that the transfer would come at no upfront cost to the PBC, however the PBC would agree to take on the responsibility for maintenance and management of the facility, including the pool and gym, while the commercial rents from the cafe and office space to go to FKP/ Aveo for the next 30 years. For the PBC deal to happen requires a Yes vote from each of the subsidiary body corporates and then a Yes vote at the PBC level.

From page 1

Principal Body Corporate chairman Roger Cook said the PBC had taken a neutral stance on the vote. He said the most important thing was for everyone to consider the options and make their opinions known, either by voting, or in the case of those renting in the Ridges, letting their landlords and rental agents know their thoughts on the Rec Club facility to help inform decision making.

If the vote is a No and access to the Rec Club facilities are withdrawn, the PBC has indicated Ridge's body corporate fees would be recalculated and reduced accordingly.

What happens to the pool, gym, tennis court and barbecue area in this case is unknown.

Ernst's Angela Hood can be contacted on 3620 0600 or ahood@ebcm.com.au.

At the moment, the PBC pays AVEO about $750 per lot in the Ridges for access to the Rec Club. If the PBC takes over management, it estimates that cost will be between $760 to $790 per year per lot to access the facility.

The rule, which applies to ambulances, police cars, fire trucks, and transport enforcement vehicles, as well as breakdown assistance providers such as RACQ, tow trucks and assistance vehicles, will be enforced with a $432 fine and three demerit points.

“We have been advocating for this change since 2017, with 90 percent of our members in favour of making this lifesaving road rule a reality, so we are incredibly pleased the Government is taking action,” Mr Toms said.

“Emergency responders, including our roadside crews, put their lives on the line each and every day by working in high-risk and often high-speed environments to rescue stranded motorists, but one wrong move by a passing driver could end in tragedy.

THE SUNSHINE COAST'S LOCAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT GROUP HAVE BEEN BUSY STREAMLINING THEIR PROCESSES IN THE LEAD UP TO THE SUMMER STORM SEASON.

The most recent tool added to the LDMG's toolkit is the incident management software solution, Guardian IMS, which the team put through its paces in a flood event training exercise at the start of August.

LDMG Chair and Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson said while it was only a few months ago that the region a real life flood disaster, exercises such as the one held in August offered the chance to put into practise improved processes and learnings.

"The exercise included a fast-forming weather event, more than 100m of rain, flash flooding, hail and storm surges, severe storms, super cells and tornadoes, so it tested the disaster management skills of all agencies," Mayor Jamieson said.

"The last few years have taught us that such a catastrophic event is not beyond the realms of possibility."

Informing beach goers that they are swimming near rips or cautioning holidaymakers of surf swells and surges are warnings of potential danger, but surprisingly these instructions are often patronised or ignored, resulting in embarrassed rescued casualties.Ourlifeguards put our lives ahead of their own and often find themselves battling the unpredictable elements to save those in danger. Peregian Springs News - September 2022 15 By Fiona Ewington GROWING UP WE BELIEVE THAT TO BE A SUPERHERO YOU NEED A SUPERHERO COSTUME, BUT OUR LOCAL SUPERHERO LIFEGUARDS PATROLLING OUR BEACHES SAVING LIVES ON A REGULAR BASIS, WEAR VERY SIMPLE COSTUMES; LIGHT BATHERS AT LEAST AND A LIFE JACKET AT MOST.

Many of our local beaches are patrolled every day of the year by lifeguards, and during summer weekends and bank holidays, by qualified bronze medallion volunteers. Their jobs are to keep our beaches safe, by educating beachgoers, preventing drownings and taking on the elements should anyone be in trouble in the water.

Rescue is a good representation of the life of a lifeguard, the answer is a resounding “Yes!”

LOCAL NEWS

Their rescue apparatus are polystyrene floating devices and a lot of inbuilt bravery and up to the minute training.

page 15 THE LIFE OF OUR

In the ATV is senior lifeguard Adam McKane and beside him is permanent Lifeguard Keaton Grandemange who started in Nippers age 11 years.

Whilst professional lifeguards patrolling our beaches are employed by the local council, volunteer life savers patrol the beach of the club they belong to. Both must go through regular fitness regimes, training, and testing.

Rescuing swimmers and surfers from the unpredictable oceans is a very important part of the job, but coastal risk assessments and preventing incidents is an even bigger part.

In 1902 it was illegal in Australia to enter the ocean in daylight hours, however in Sydney this law was challenged, and people began to enjoy swimming in the sunshine. Due to the unpredictable surf conditions leading to multiple drownings, groups of volunteers gathered to patrol Bondi Beach which led to the first surf lifesaving club to be formed.Itwasonly in 1982 that women could become active patrolling members of Surf Life Saving Australia. Continued BEACH HEROES

On a warm, windless, sunny day, patrolling the beach is an enviable job, but things can turn very quickly.

“One minute we were releasing baby turtles into the wild on Noosa Main Beach and the next we were reviving an unconscious casualty found in the water,” Senior Lifeguard Adam McKane tells us.

After careful review it was decided it would be more cost effective to rebuild the stairs with a new aluminium and timber set. This will provide longevity while keeping the look of the natural timber stairs currently in place.Work is expected to begin late October. These are four out of a total of 37 sportspeople in Fairfax to receive grants of between $500 andApplications$750. are now open for the next round of local sporting champion grants. Apply online at https://www.sportaus.gov. au/before 30 September.

As the Surf Lifesaving season gets underway, I want to acknowledge the vital role all our Surf Clubs play in keeping us safe at the beach. I was pleased to visit Coolum Beach Surf Club recently and see their new retractable shade sail in action, provided with the help with a $9,345 Federal Government grant.

Telcos have been required to detect, trace and block scam calls since December 2020. The drop in calls getting through has translated into a 50% drop in the number of scams reported to Scamwatch by consumers inACMA2022.said while the results were positive, scammers were becoming more sophisticated and people should remain vigilant and take steps to protect themselves from scammers. peregianspringsnews.com.au26 LOCAL NEWS WITH AN UPCOMING TRIP FOR MYSELF TO REPRESENT AUSTRALIA AT THE PGA WOMEN’S CUP IN NEW MEXICO, I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE MY TWO MOST IMPORTANT PRACTISE AREAS FOR PREPARING TO SHOOT LOW SCORES AT IMPORTANT GOLF EVENTS.

CONGRATS SINGING SIENNA! Congratulations to Coolum State High School Year 11 student Sienna Rose Ritchie who is the new National Champion after she scooped the pool in the Senior singing section of the TFT Sports & Events Management Australian National Championships on August 20 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.Sienna competed in both solo up tempo and down tempo, and well as in both groups, beating tough competition from Victoria and SouthSienna’sAustralia.nextsinging lead role will be as Serena Katz in the purple cast of Little Seed Theatre Company’s Fame at the Noosa J next month.

A service was held for Brian at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Nambour on August 25, with those attending urged to wear a Reds or Wallabies’ scarf, hat or jersey in honour of Brian’s diehard love of rugby union. The community has rallied with an outpouring of support for his family and his colleagues.

CONDOLENCES FOR DR BRIAN Coolum Vet Surgery staff and hundreds of local pet owners, friends and family have paid tribute to Dr Brian Collingwood who passed away from a heart attack on August 15,Brian2022.started out as a vet in Gympie where he married his wife Anne and they had four children, Andrew, Christopher, Nick and Kate.Hestarted Coolum Vet Surgery in Birtwill Street in 1993, before moving the business to the purpose-built facility at Yandina-Coolum Rd in 1998, where he has been looking after the region’s animals ever since.

The second factor is: Wedges from 30-90m. Whether your an elite player or a higher handicap, we ALL have good shots and bad shots.Focusing on being really accurate with your distance control in this range means you have the ability to hit out from the trees or wherever your errant shot may finish and you know you can hit the green and a chance of saving your score.

The first important factor; Long putting precision from far away. Most people have 3 putts simply because they didn’t get their speed on the first putt to finish near the hole. I focus a high majority of time hitting 10 putts from various distances from 9m to 16m from the hole and only moving to the next putting distance once I have achieved 10/10 inside a 1m circle.

It also adds an advantage on par 5’s by increasing your chance of birdies. Happy golfing, Katelyn Peregian Golf's Resident Professional SHORT GAME FOCUS FOR SCORES

When engaging with a community group you will often establish friendships with people that are outside of your normal circle. They are a fantastic place to meet new people, if you are new to a community, and can help you feel connected and valued.

Some also develop career pathways from engaging as a volunteer in a community group.Sowhy don’t you consider volunteering and experience first-hand, the fulfilment that can be had by being part of a community/ charity group.

The benefits of volunteering can be enormous. Let’s explore some. Volunteering will connect you to group of people that share a common purpose which in turn can help you to develop a deep sense of purpose and fulfilment.

As a result, I’ve had the privilege to form partnerships with many of the fantastic community groups within our community.

Volunteering as a family can also be very beneficial.

Volunteering can be very good for your mental health and wellbeing.

Sadly, over the years, I have seen a steady decline in people volunteering and as a result have even seen some of them close down.Needless to say, our community is in desperate need for these groups to stay in existence as they provide a significant contribution to those underprivileged and inSocietyneed. as a whole will struggle if we lose these groups through a lack of volunteers. It is the unpaid volunteer within these groups who is the glue that holds communities together.

Children watch everything parents do and learn by example. By giving back to the community, you’ll show them first-hand how volunteering makes a difference and how good it feels to help other people. It will also help them develop their social skills, self-esteem, confidence and new skills that might not be otherwise developed.
