New stats show how Peregian Springs has grown in the past five years.

POPULATION BOOMING WHAT A DIFFERENCE FIVE YEARS MAKE.

The early data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2021 Census has been released and it makes for interesting reading when it comes to the Peregian Springs Statistical Area, which incorporates Peregian Springs and Peregian Breeze. Since the 2016 Census another 3,357 people have moved to the area, taking our population as Census night 2021 to 10,694, up from 7,337 in 2016. As an area we have slightly more females than males, 52.3% versus 47.7% and our median age has increased from 37 years in 2016 to 38 years in 2021. When it comes to where we live, Peregian Springs News - August 2022

the number of private dwellings has increased from 2,727 in 2016 to 3,962 in 2021. Our median weekly household income has risen too. It was $1,502 per week in 2016, and it was recorded as $1,864 per week in 2021. The higher weekly income perhaps needed to pay for the higher mortgage payments, rising from a median of $2000 a month in 2016 to $2,147 in 2021. Rent jumped from a median of $480 a week in 2016 to $530 a week on Census night 2021 - and that was before the latest round of house price rises, mortgage and rent rises. Continued page 2
