TREES CULLED AT SUNRISE COMMUNITY GROUPS ARE SEEKING A LAST MINUTE INTERVENTION BY THE STATE GOVERNMENT TO PUT A STOP TO CLEARING OF LAND FOR A RESIDENTIAL AGED CARE FACILITY AT SUNRISE BEACH.
In a blog on Noosa Matters on January 31, former Peregian Beach Community Association president and long time Peregian Beach resident Barry Cotterell said they were seeking to have the Minister for Resources, responsible for the Vegetation Management Act, issue an interim declaration over the development because of the “imminent threat Eastern Beaches News - February 2022
to the area which is of high nature conservation value”. The latest move follows the decision by Blue Care to proceed with clearing on the site in the last week of January, prompting local protests as bulldozers moved in. Many locals to the Grasstree Court site have lobbied against the development for years, with a petition by 11-year-old Spencer Hitchen having collected more than 59,000 signatures so far. He has followed the plight of the birds since he was 8 (see change. org/saveourglossies for petition). The development was approved nearly 10 years ago. The recent works are for intersection upgrades prior building Stage 1.
