Hi and welcome to another year for Yelverton Bohemians Cricket Club. We're all hoping to see a fantastic summer of dry weather and sun at Langton Park! 2015 was another great season for the Yelverton youngsters with the Whirlwinds and the Hurricanes doing particularly well, showing the club is in great hands. It is a testament to the coaches and parents who are doing a wonderful job of encouraging and nurturing talent. Cricket in this country is in fantastic condition at the moment, with the England women's side reaching the semi final of the T20 World Cup and the men reaching the final, just missing out on victory, no thanks to some outrageous batting! The women's game continues to grow quickly and it's great to see more and more ladies getting involved, firstly to play competitively and secondly, maybe more importantly to get involved in the social side. It continues the huge importance of cricket clubs at the centre of communities. It provides friendly rivalries between villages, creating respect for skilful players and a real togetherness for looking after the ground and being proud of it. So to the players that want to be the best they can be, I urge you to look at the fighting attitude of Ben Stokes, who was unlucky enough to bowl the final over in the T20 final. Firstly he was brave enough to step up to bowl the over and after the bitter disappointment of being part of the losing team came up with these words: "The disappointment will be motivation to make sure it does not happen again. So I will train an extra 10 minutes every training session to get better." A fantastic attitude and one we can all learn from and to the social cricketer, I'll see you in the bar! Good luck. Membership Membership for the 2016 season is £10 Membership is open to boys from school year 1 (Under 7) to school year 10 (Under 15). Girls can be members from school year 1 (Under 7) to school year 12 (Under 17). Parents, Carers or Guardians automatically become (non voting) social members of the club. All Members will receive a 2016 Fixture Card with details of matches and contact details of team managers etc. Players will only be selected for matches or be allowed to take part in group coaching sessions if they are a paid member of the club AND have submitted a Player Profile Form. To apply to become a member please fill out and return the ‘YBCC Colts Membership Form’ together with the ‘YBCC Colts Player Profile Form’ and enclose the relevant fee.
Team Selection The relevant age group Managers are responsible for the selection of the Academy teams. Selection will be based on a number of factors including, skill/ability, experience, attitude & behaviour along with discussions with the members of the Coaching Team. The Managers will seek to select a competitive, balanced team for each particular fixture. The squad sizes in each age group may also dictate that some players will play less games than others. At the U11 age group the ‘pairs’ format means that all players will bat & bowl. At the U13 & U15 age groups however, the nature of cricket means that in certain games some players may not bat or bowl. Please inform the relevant manager of your child’s availability for matches.

Coaches Each group will be lead and assisted by a UKCC (or equivalent) qualified Coach. All coaches are current ECBCA members coaches and have a current first aid certificate, have been DBS checked by the ECB and have attended a Child Protection Workshop within the past 3 years. Organisation Each coaching session will start with a warm up, followed by focusing on a cricket skill and conclude with a game (or nets) and a cool down. At the conclusion of the 2016 coaching programme all players in the Under 7 and Under 9 age group will be assessed and receive one of the following awards depending on their current ability - Asda Kwik Cricket Award Bronze, Silver or Gold.
Safety
The ground has been divided into areas to give plenty of space between each of the groups. Please ensure that only participating children, coaches and managers go into the training area.
What To Bring All children will need to attend in sports clothing, bring any cricket equipment they have and a drink. To participate in hard ball batting all boys must be wearing a jock strap/briefs with a pouch (and a box). Under 7’s and Under 9’s play softball only.
Bad Weather
If the ground is unplayable on the day the coaching session will be cancelled by 5.00pm by email to all members and by a notice on the club website (www.ybcc.co.uk). There will be no refunds in the event of cancellation due to bad weather.
