We will begin the term by reviewing the 44 speed sounds that help us to read and spell with increasing accuracy. Reading lessons will focus on multiple readings of books to help us build our reading fluency and develop reading comprehension skills. We will continue to develop our speed and accuracy of letter formation in order to become more fluent writers. Our writing focus will be on generating ideas, sequencing information in the texts and using conjunctions to connect ideas within our writing.
Securing place value up to 100 is a key focus this term. Children will be able to partition numbers to 100 in different ways understand finding 1 or 10 ‘more’ or ‘lesson’ from any number to 100. This supports our subsequent learning on addition and subtraction where we develop efficient written and mental methods for problem solving. We will also learn properties of 2D and 3D shape, learning to classify and describe shapes by their different properties.
Understand the basic requirements for plant growth (air, light, nutrients, water) as well as compare and contrast the characteristics of different seasons. As we work scientifically, we will also be generating scientific questions and making observations over time to support us answering these questions.
For children who have chosen to learn French, we will be learning about nationalities using je suis, naming classroom objects and classroom instructions. We will review numbers 1-10 and learn up to 20. We will also learn to ask and say where you live and express our opinions.
In our Kiswahili lessons we will be reviewing greetings and naming family members. We will learn to introduce ourselves by telling our age as well as tell the simple dates using months of the year.
For children who have chosen to learn Spanish, their focus is on ‘nature and animals’. They will learn to name the big five in Spanish as well as talk about other wild animals and farm animals. They will also describe landscapes and habitats in national parks and describe animals using adjectives, actions, colours and shapes.

Our themes this term are ‘growing things’ and ‘around the world’ which link together our learning across humanities subjects. Historical enquiries will lead us to find answers to questions about the past and we will also make different interpretations of history by comparing two historical sources of information. We will also use fieldwork and observational skills to study the key human and physical features of the schools' surrounding areas.
As we continue to develop our knowledge of other religions, we will learn to recognise the key features of religious stories and re-tell the stories of how beliefs came into being. We will learn that all religions have festivals, know the names of some important religious festivals and that some festivals are not religious.
As part of our learning through our thematic learning, we will discuss and express opinions on different artworks and learn about different artists. We will use sketchbooks to collect ideas, experiment with materials. Develop ideas from starting points throughout the curriculum and adapt and refine ideas as they progress.
We will identify the main parts of computer hardware, to use logical steps towards controlling an on-screen algorithm: Scratch Junior and Logo. To open, save and find documents. Computers in society: Programmed devices around the home – Robots A refresher on using the internet safely and responsibly
In music we will be assessing our prior musical skills and reviewing skills on the instrument the recorder. We will also develop rhythm awareness as we learn new recorder notes and create melodies.

We will be learning ways and benefits of warming up and cooling down and develop safe movement and spatial awareness through running and chasing games. In Athletics we will be practicing sprinting, jumping for distance, jumping for height and throwing for distance. We will also be honing our invasion game skills in football - learning how to pass, shoot, control a ball with the feet and how to increase spatial awareness.
Children will focus on the fundamental stages of swimming by learning basic water skills through fun. They will also learn the rules of the swimming pool along with basic water safety and survival skills.
Children will learn to understand their own identity and place within their community, learn about their rights and responsibilities and the importance of respecting others. They explore differences and similarities, discuss the negative impact of bullying and how to be an upstander. They will also learn to appreciate the unique qualities of themselves and others.
