The 50th Anniversary Campaign for People’s Light
Photography: Mark Garvin
For 50 years, People’s Light has flourished as a place for art-making, civic exchange, and social connection, even as the scale and scope of our work evolves. Our 50th Anniversary is a moment to commemorate the past and envisage a bold future. Our region is booming with an increasingly diverse intersection of communities calling this corner of the world home, and People’s Light is again faced with a cultural landscape transformed by upheaval. Our mission remains the same, but is continually expressed in new ways. In this time of increasing division and isolation, we are more committed than ever to build common ground through shared experiences – in theatres, classrooms, outdoor spaces, and community venues. We will be the Live Arts Hub of social gathering and creative learning our region seeks and deserves.
Give People’s Light a HIGH FIVE-O. Support Your Community.

“With every year I spent at People’s Light, I realized that there were so many more stories to be told, and the new voices of children, who thought they had no voice, would be the people to tell them.”
Nadria Beard, New Voices Program Director
“People’s Light is a light for people across the nation and the world to aspire to. People’s Light will be seen as a leader in showing what it takes for an organization to make accessibility a priority, demonstrating what it takes to lead in accessibility, and what it takes to lead in values.”
Roger Ideishi, George Washington School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
“Theatre can address important and sometimes difficult issues faced by our community, and provide an opportunity to share an experience that opens up dialogue, provides new perspectives, and moves us to become more thoughtful, aware, and compassionate human beings.”
