How to Get Involved Empower journalists across the globe to report on the problem and its emerging solutions.  Set up a screening of an environmentally-themed movie.

Consider supplementing the screening with a speaker who can lead a Q&A following the film. 

The Philippines supports and joins the world in celebrating the International Earth Day/ Month of Planet Earth through the issuance of Presidential Proclamation No. 1481 and 1482.

Presidential Proclamation No. 1481, s. 2008 Declaring April 22 of every year as the “Philippines Earth Day”.

Presidential Proclamation No. 1482 s. 2008 Declaring the month of April every year thereafter as “the Month of Planet Earth” in the Philippines.

  

Participate planting trees, adopt tree program, and create an eco-fair with local green businesses and environmental organizations.

 

Support the National Greening Program (NGP) by planting and caring more trees.

Stop illegal logging, kaingin farming and other environmental crimes against our forest.

Show and apply best practices in solid waste management. Recycle, Reuse, Reduce, Refuse, Remove.

Support and promote decarbonized economy.

Use alternative sources of renewable energy.

ACCORDING TO AN ARTICLE BY THE BBC:

 8.3 billion metric tons (9.1 billion US

tons) of virgin (non-recycled) plastic has been produced to date.  Generating 6.3 billion metric tons (6.9 billion US tons) of plastic waste.  9% of that waste has been recycled.  12% has been incinerated.  The remaining 79% (5.5 billion US tons) of plastic waste has accumulated in landfills and the natural environment.  12 billion metric tons (13.2 billion US tons) will enter landfills or the environment by 2050 if current production and waste management trends continue.

Our strategy to End Plastic Pollution will: Lead and support the adoption of a global framework to regulate plastic pollution.  Educate and mobilize citizens across the globe to demand action from governments and corporations to control and diminish plastic pollution.  Inform and activate citizens to take personal responsibility for the plastic pollution that each one of us generates by choosing to reject, reduce, reuse and recycle plastics. 
