Match reports: Opponent: Unsworth Greens Date: 06/09/14 Venue: Away Result: Pennine Reds 10 – 5 Unsworth Greens Match report: First match of the season kicked off and I was still settling my subs down when Aaron had the ball in the net before I even knew they’d kicked off!! Some good passing from the boys led to a great cross from Hughesy apparently, which Aaron poked home. 1-0 and we were off. The boys then rushed into a 4-0 lead and looked like winning comfortably thanks to goals from Aaron and Hughesy and some fantastic saves from our keeper Ben (MOM) and secure defending from Josh. In the second half the boys were 9-1 up thanks to a well-deserved penalty on Nathan which he converted confidently and further goals from Louie, Hughesy and Aaron but then they switched off which resulted in Unsworth scoring 4 quick goals to make it 9-5 and all of a sudden we were looking shaky!! But then Isaac scored after putting in some hard work in the middle of the pitch to settle the nerves and make it 10 -5 the final score.

Opponent: Westbury Vikings Date: 13/09/14 Venue: Away Result: Pennine Reds 5 – 3 Westbury Vikings Match report: A tough close game this one, Aaron again opened the scoring after great work from Louie down the left slipping a nice pass inside to Nathan who then slid the ball on to Aaron to score. Westbury were a constant threat though and we needed Josh and Ben to keep them at bay which they did fantastically well. The boys then went 2-0 up after great work from Louie and Nathan passing well between them up the pitch which led to a long range shot from Louie that the keeper parried for Nathan to slot home. Hughesy then put us 3-0 up with a “Hughesy special”, winning the ball in his own half, running with the full length of the pitch and smashing it past the keeper. Second half the boys started a bit shaky and Westbury scored quickly to get themselves back in the game. A minute later they hit us on the break again and the boys couldn’t get back quick enough and Westbury scored again!! 3-2 now and we looked to be losing the plot. We were now on the receiving end of an all-out Viking attack as they pushed for the equaliser but Josh and Ben were keeping them at bay, Aaron nearly put Russ and I in an early grave when he hit our post with a clearance/tackle!! Then disaster, the boys switched off on a throw in which the Vikings took quickly and scored….3-3. The Vikings were now pushing for the winner which they nearly got but for a brilliant one handed save from Ben. Then the game turned in our favour after a stray pass out from the Viking keeper let Hughesy in to have a shot that was handled by their defender…..Penalty. Hughesy stepped up and calmly slotted Page | 5

past the keeper 4-3 to Pennine. The Vikings came again looking for the equaliser and with only 2 minutes left we got a freekick a few yards outside their box, Louie took it and hit the underside of the crossbar with a brilliant shot but we couldn’t get the rebound in the net. In the dying seconds of the game the Vikings were pushing everyone forward fighting for the equaliser when Louie (MOM) made another important tackle in defence and set Aaron on his way and with the Viking defence too far forward he was left to run the length of pitch and smash the ball home right on the final whistle. 5-3 well done Pennine.

Opponent: Woodbank Blacks Date: 20/09/14 Venue: Home Result: Pennine Reds 10 – 4 Woodbank Black Match report: The Reds came up against a strong and aggressive side in Woodbank Blacks, from the kick off Woodbank were right into the boys with heavy challenges and that knocked the boys off their game. This led to us going 0-2 down early in the game. Eventually Josh and Ben started to get on top of them and this allowed our front 3 to find their shooting boots and Louie opened our scoring with a great shot on the edge of the box after being put through by Nathan who set the example today battling and tackling. Aaron scored 2 more quick goals as a result of some great passing from the boys getting him in to fire home from close range and Nathan added a 4th just before halftime (4-2). Second half we gave Ben a run out up front and he made the most of it scoring 2 great goals the second of which was a brilliant chip over the keeper from outside the box. Woodbank replied with 2 more goals but further goals from Fred, Hughesy, Aaron and Nathan (MOM) secured the win.

Opponent: Chadderton Park Pheonix Date: 27/09/14 Venue: Away Result: Chadderton Park Pheonix 13 – 4 Pennine Reds Match report: Yeah!! Nuff said!! The boys turned up with their daft heads on today!!! As the team picture on the front of this shows. God love em!! 3 cracking goals though from Aaron and Louie and an own goal. Josh Crook was a hero today trying to keep Pheonix at bay because his team mates didn’t do much to help him and he worked hard. (well done today Josh) Man of the match. Chaddy Phoenix were a good team today and too strong for them.

Opponent: Rammy United Jedi Date: 04/10/14 Venue: Away Result: Rammy Utd Jedi 3 – 5 Pennine Reds Match report: Page | 6

The boys got back to winning form today. 2 great early goals from Aaron set them on their way, with Josh Hughes and Issac scoring to give us a 4-0 lead that the boys nearly through away as the Jedi fought back but some great saves from Ben and then Issac in goal, Josh Crook solid and reliable defending and Nathan Perks battling in midfield kept them at bay until Louie settled it with a shot from the edge of the area that keeper couldn’t keep out.

Opponent: Seedfield Sports Club Date: 11/10/14 Venue: Away Result: Seedfield SC 1 – 14 Pennine Reds Match report: The boys took a while to settle in to this one but once they did there was no stopping them. Louie opened the scoring with one of his great strikes from distance. Josh Hughes hit a quick fire double shortly after as Pennine started to totally dominate. Fred made a determined run into Seedfields area and they could only bring him down for a penalty which he gratefully stepped up and scored. Nathan got a hat-trick, the best of which was a skilful finish from a long goal kick from Ben that Nathan judged perfectly on the bounce and flicked it into the top corner. Josh Crook was as reliable as ever in defence stopping nearly all of Seedfields ventures into our half and playing the ball back out to our front 3 he’s looking really assured at the back for us now and it’s great to have a player like him in defence (MOM). Ben saved some fine shots from Seedfield and kept a clean sheet until near the end of match Seedfield got a goal. Ben then came out of goal for the last five minutes and scored an unbelievable 4 goals!!! To finish the game off in style…..what a goalie!!! and well done all the boys, a great performance.

Opponent: Rammy Utd Rockets Date: 18/10/14 Venue: Home Result: Pennine Reds 9 – 5 Rammy Utd Rockets Match report: The Reds got off to a quick start today with Isaac opening the scoring with a typical Isaac battling goal forcing his way through the defence and slotting the ball home. Fred got a determined hat-trick (well done Fred). Josh Hughes gave us another Hughesy special, a strong run the length of pitch and smashed it in the net. Louie got a well-earned hat-trick with that left foot again, the best of which was a well worked set play with Nathan that they have been practicing in training (born of their own making). This was all built today around some relentless running from Aaron up and down the wings fighting for every ball that he could and winning a penalty that he also converted, for which he got Man of the match. Rammy fought back towards the end of the game as the Reds took their foot off the gas for a while but they ran out deserved winners in the end. Great effort today boys.

Opponent: Walshaw Maroons Date: 07/2/15 Venue: Soccer Factory Result: Pennine Reds 8 – 4 Walshaw Maroons Match report: The boys went 0-1 down halfway through the first half but their heads didn’t go down as in previous matches, they soon rushed into a 3 – 1 lead with some great passing leading to goals from Josh Hughes, Aaron and Fred. Josh Crook came up front for a while and worked hard to earn his goal to make it 4-1. Walshaw were always threatening though and but for some great keeping from Ben “again”, would have been closer at halftime. Second half Walshaw brought on a few fresh subs and fought back to 4-4, the boys started passing the ball well again leading to Josh Hughes (MOM) restoring our lead 5 – 4 and then Aaron added another 6-4. Louie then had 2 quick shots saved by the keeper but his follow up crossed the line 7 – 4. Ben then came out for a run up front and as usual battled his way through Walshaw to get his goal 8 - 4. Well done boys, (keep passing).
