Introduction to Modern Brush Calligraphy

Learn the basics to the beautiful art of modern (brush) calligraphy. No experience is required; you don’t even need to like handwriting! With some practice, anyone can learn brush lettering. This class will break down the fundamentals and basic strokes necessary to correctly use brush pens and how to combine these strokes to elegantly write letters and words.

Intermediate Modern Pen Calligraphy –Flourishes, Words, and Creating Your Own Style

In this intermediate course, we’ll use both large and small brush pens while exploring how to add oomph to your lettering using flourishes and bounce to create your own personal lettering style. Bring along your favorite quote, title, or phrase to letter.

Intermediate Modern Brush Calligraphy –Time to Add Color

Want to add color to your brush pen calligraphy? We’ll use a paint brush and watercolors to letter your favorite quote, title, or phrase to letter. These will be for framing!

Introduction to Voiceovers

Explore the craft of voiceovers! Discover current trends, opportunities, and tools you need to find success in this growing remote working industry. Read a real script and receive coaching from your instructor, a professional voice actor, to improve your delivery. Upon registration, you will be contacted by VFA to schedule your class for a day and time of your convenience.

PERSONAL SAFETY & AWARENESS

Conflict De-Escalation

Open to groups and individuals. This course provides individuals with strategies and techniques to calmly and safely communicate with people who are emotionally escalated. This course will focus on introducing participants to basic de-escalation techniques. Participants will also experience basic and advanced training scenarios in our Use of Force Simulator.

Personal

Safety Awareness

Open to groups and individuals. Due to an increase in active threat incidents and the swiftness with which they unfold, we must now prepare ourselves, our coworkers, families, and communities. This course will focus on how to be prepared and gain the skills needed to recognize, respond to, and reduce your chance of sustaining a personal injury during this type of event. This course will include a presentation, lecture, and active threat scenarios using our Use of Force Simulator.

Firearm Target Simulation

Open to groups and individuals. Held in our state-ofthe-art Use of Force Simulator, the Firearm Target Simulation will provide an experience that is both fun and educational. Suitable for those that have never used a firearm and those who have a well-developed skillset. Use your simulator time to further develop your skills in a climate-controlled environment that drastically reduces the expense of traditional firearms ranges. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 5:30-7:30pm are available. Must schedule two weeks in advance.

Instructor: Cory Fairman

$50 per hour for up to two participants. $10 per person additional for three to six participants. One hour minimum, two hour maximum.

** This simulator uses blue laser training pistols that are non-recoil dry-fire weapons, ideal for beginners. Also available for use is a pistol with a CO2 air recoil conversion kit that is a step up for those individuals with some firearm experience.

Participants are reminded that no live weapons and/or ammunition is permitted on site. Participants are not permitted to bring backpacks, handbags, or the like into the simulator. Additionally, no coats or jackets are permitted in the simulator. Lockers are available for storage.

CAREER TRAINING

Phlebotomy

Phlebotomy provides 40 hours of in-class lecture and hands-on student laboratory. Topics include universal precautions and safety, special collection procedures, handling and processing of specimens, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology. Learn manual skills to perform venipuncture and skin puncture techniques along with didactic training to assure quality specimens. The course also encompasses 100 clinical hours at a local hospital.

Clinical hours may encompass varied shifts. You must successfully complete Phlebotomy to qualify for the national certification exam. Hospitals require the following, which is not covered in the cost: scrubs, malpractice insurance, PA criminal background check, FBI background check, child abuse clearance, urine drug screen, CPR certification, Hepatitis B vaccinations, and health clearances.

Confirmation of course registration, including room location(s), will be mailed upon receipt of a completed registration form and payment. You will not be enrolled in a course until a completed registration form and payment are received.
