Valley Mill / Mart, Anglesey - Winter 2023

Page 1

A development of 54 energy efficient, affordable homes, being built by Williams homes on behalf of ClwydAlyn and in partnership with Anglesey County Council and the Welsh Government. The proposed completion is Summer 2024.

PROGRESS UPDATE AND LOOKING AHEAD

Work on site is progressing well and a new site entrance has been formed. Both Welsh Water and BT Openreach will be bringing their services into the site over the next few weeks. These works are planned to start on the 27th February. There will be traffic lights on the main road for approximately 2 weeks whilst these utilities are brought onto the site.

The development has been split up into 10 zones. The concrete raft foundations have been poured for the first 5 zones. Timber frame erection is well under way with the frames for Zone 1 complete. With spring on the way, we are looking forward to continuing the good progress made over the autumn/winter.

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

In December staff from Williams Homes worked with year 6 pupils at Valley Community School in an exciting workshop to encourage our future builders, developers and architects! Using their new knowledge of construction principles, the children built a tower with a tetrahedron kit, in what will be a series of workshops at the school to develop their skills!

PUPILS AT VALLEY COMMUNITY SCHOOL OFFICIALLY MARK START OF WORKS

On 27th January pupils at Valley Community School attended the ceremony to mark the start of works at Valley Mill / Mart and gained an insight into the different stages of building a home. Leading on the ceremony, it was a chance for the children to really feel part of the development and to build on the successful relationship being forged with the school.

THE NAMING OF THE DEVELOPMENT

ClwydAlyn and Williams Homes have given year 5 and 6 pupils at Valley Community School the opportunity to name the streets of the new development. The children have spent time looking at geographical and historic significance in the area to come up with a few ideas. The next step will be to work with the children and the community council to agree on a name for the site once it’s completed.

MANAGEMENT OF THE SITE AND HOURS OF OPERATION

There is a Site Manager Team on site at all times, who are trained to safely manage all operations and subcontractor activity. Typical hours of operation are Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 6pm and Saturday’s 8am to 1pm. If at any time any specialist work needs to be carried out outside of these hours, we will contact you. We will continue to communicate regularly by newsletter as the development progresses.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Men at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham have been producing timber framed panels for our developments at Glasdir (Ruthin), Hen Ysgol y Bont, Pentraeth and Valley Mill / Mart in Anglesey, playing a key role in the success of the schemes. A factory unit was set up in the prison, and now 25 men have had a chance to gain practical skills and qualifications to equip them to gain employment on release.
