PORT ANGELES — Kitsap BlueJackets owner Matt Acker said last week a multiyear contract with the city to bring a college-level West Coast League wood-bat baseball team to Port Angeles by June 2017 is close to completion. Acker estimated Friday that $190,000 would be generated annually in Port Angeles and Sequim in lodging, food,

travel and marketing expenses by having a team in Port Angeles. He said his estimate was based on an average of expenditures by 12 West Coast League teams over a five-year span ending in September 2015. Average league attendance per game was 1,128 for 12 teams in markets such as Walla Walla, Wenatchee, Longview — and Victoria, he said. Acker, who lives in Lacey, expects attendance at Civic Field, which has covered seating for 2,500, would reach that average, given the combined populations of Clallam and Jefferson counties of 103,952 in 2015. PORT ANGELES — A four-way race is in place for the Port Angeles-area District 2 Clallam County commissioner seat being vacated by Democrat Mike Chapman. State Rep. Steve Tharinger, D-Sequim, also gained a general election opponent for his Position 2 seat — John D. Alger, also of Sequim. Randy Johnson, former president of the timberland and wood products company Green Crow Corp. of Port Angeles and current chairman of the board, registered Friday for Chapman’s position with no party preference. Friday was the last day to register for the Nov. 8 general election.

No other new There were no other new filings for open offices in Clallam County, and there will be no Clallam County contests in the Aug. 8 primary except for county commissioner. Johnson, also board president of the Clallam County Economic Development Corp., joins Democrat Ron Richards and Republicans Gabe Rygaard and Maggie Roth in the primary election for the four-year Clallam commissioner position. The top two candidates from the primary will advance to the general election regardless of party affiliation. Johnson, who has never held elective public office, was an unsuccessful applicant for a Port of Port Angeles commissioner vacancy. TURN

walked out onto a rocky area just above the cascading water, said Mike DeRousie, assistant chief of Fire District No. 2. At that location, the Sol Duc fans into two channels, crashing 50 feet into a narrow chasm where the sun rarely shines. While out on the rocks, Reciert slipped and “was swept down the waterfall, went under a log and down another waterfall, finally pulling himself up out of the river,” DeRousie said. Reciert was located about 70 feet down a “very steep embankment 0.8 miles from the trailhead,” DeRousie said.

They immediately sent highangle-trained EMT Nate Thompson down to Reciert with space blankets, other blankets and some medical equipment to record his COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT NO. 2 vital signs.
