Sanders scores big
Compared to some areas, actually good BY CHARLIE BERMANT PENINSULA DAILY NEWS
PORT TOWNSEND — The worst air quality in Port Townsend is in the Blue Heron Middle School area, but even there, it poses little health hazard to either the students or the surrounding residents, according to the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency. “When compared to other places, the air quality in Port Townsend and around the Blue Heron school is actually quite good, although there are some times where parents with asthmatic children will want to keep them from running around outside,” said Odelle Hadley, an ORCAA senior air monitoring specialist. The Olympic Region Clean Air Agency, known as ORCAA, monitors ambient air throughout its jurisdiction of Jefferson, Clallam, Thurston, Mason, Grays Harbor and Pacific counties. Due to costs, ORCAA runs the saturation study in one county at a time. The Clallam County Saturation Study was concluded in 2014 and the Jefferson County data was collected in 2015. The equipment is now deployed in Thurston County. ORCAA findings from the Jefferson County Saturation Study — which gathered data on particulates in the air between May 2014 and April 2015 — were presented in Port Townsend on Saturday. In addition to the Blue Heron school site, the study gathered data from three other locations: Jefferson County Mental Health in Port Townsend, the East Jefferson Fire-Rescue station on Jacob Miller Road and the Chimacum Fire Station. County caucuses give wide margin to senator BY CHRIS MCDANIEL PENINSULA DAILY NEWS
PORT ANGELES — Bernie Sanders swept Clallam and Jefferson county Democratic presidential caucuses Saturday, which was in line with early statewide results. The Washington state caucuses were conducted on the same day as Democratic caucuses in Alaska and Hawaii. Late Saturday afternoon, Vermont Senator Sanders was winning a majority of delegates across the state. With about 30 percent of precincts reporting, he was winning about 75 percent of the delegates elected.
In Clallam County, 185 precinct delegates were elected for Sanders while 85 were elected for Hillary Clinton. In Jefferson County, 135 precinct delegates were elected for Sanders while 56 were elected for Clinton. Statewide there are 118 national level delegates at stake, with 101 to ultimately be awarded proportionally based on the results of the local precincts. The remaining 17 are technically unpledged party and elected leaders, though a majority of them — including Gov. Jay Inslee and the state’s congressional delegation — support front-runner Clinton, according to the Associated Press.
Saturday’s caucuses elected 27,170 delegates, proportionally allocated to each candidate. Those delegates will then move on to county conventions and legislative district caucuses, where a smaller group will advance to the congressional district caucuses at the end of May, when 67 delegates will be elected to the Democratic National Convention. The following month, the remaining 34 delegates will be chosen and bound based on the ratio of support determined at the May 21 congressional district caucuses. TURN

Sheriff’s deputies tally fourth sting arrest Final part in four-month probe BY CHARLIE BERMANT PENINSULA DAILY NEWS
PORT TOWNSEND — A fourmonth methamphetamine investigation by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies has led to a fourth arrest. Shawna Fae Green, 36, of Port Hadlock was taken into custody Thursday on two counts of possession of a controlled substance in a school zone and one count of possession of a controlled substance. Green made her first court appearance Friday and was released on her own recognizance. Her arrest was the final piece of an operation in which three other women were arrested for
investigation of drug sales. On Wednesday, deputies arrested Heidi C. Johnson, 50, of Port Townsend and Shane E. Sodano, 34, and Suzanne D. Clausen, 37, both of Port Hadlock. Clausen and Sodano were arrested for investigation of delivery of a controlled substance in a school zone. Deputies said drugs were sold within 1,000 feet of a school bus stop. Johnson was arrested for investigation of delivery of a controlled substance. Johnson, Sodano and Clausen made their initial court appearances Thursday.
The judge imposed a $7,500 bail on Johnson and released the other two on their own recognizance. Johnson posted bail Friday and is no longer in custody. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Julian St. Marie said bail was imposed on Johnson because she had “a history of non-appearance.” St. Marie said no bail was imposed on the other three because they were deemed to be no danger to the community and the conditions of release forbade the consumption of alcohol or any controlled substance. “They are required to take regular [drug] tests, so I felt there were enough safeguards in terms of protecting the community,” she said.
“The investigation began in November. It involved six deputies and one confidential informant.” DETECTIVE BRETT ANGLIN Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office
Port Hadlock home. The drugs had a combined street value of $90, according to the probable-cause statement. According to the statement, Clausen, Sodano and Johnson sold meth to the informant on 11 separate occasions from Nov. 25 to March 2. Detective Brett Anglin said the investigation began in November. It involved six deputies and one confidential informant. Anglin said the investigation has concluded and the informant will not be used on another case.
“There was no reason to think they wouldn’t appear in court as directed, and warehousing them in jail didn’t seem appropriate.” All four are scheduled for arraignment at 8:30 a.m. April 1 in Jefferson County Superior Court at the courthouse at 1820 _________ Jefferson St. Green was charged with sellJefferson County Editor Charlie Bering meth to a confidential infor- mant can be reached at 360-385-2335 or mant Jan. 27 and Feb. 2 in her cbermant@peninsuladailynews.com.
