Port Angeles sees boost in graffiti across city erty in past weeks. “I would say especially the [last] couple of months, it’s definitely increased,” Delikat said. “It tends to come in waves.” Delikat said the city has spent about $20,100 repairing vandalism, which includes cleaning graffiti, so far this year and about $72,300 since 2009. “It seems to us there has been a recent uptick in graffiti

PORT ANGELES — City police report a recent uptick in graffiti spray-painted on walls of city and personal property — and not only is it unsightly, but it can be expensive. Corey Delikat, the city’s parks and recreation director, said his crews have seen more tags on city park signs, in bathrooms and on other city prop-

around town,” Police Chief Terry Gallagher said Friday. Among the places hit is the city’s newly installed downtown waterfront esplanade. That area has been tagged at least twice since it opened to the public in late August, Gallagher said. “I assure you, we find that as aggravating as citizens [do],” he said. TURN

PENINSULA DAILY NEWS

PORT ANGELES — Deborah Kelly, Clallam County’s elected prosecuting attorney since 2003, has announced that she will step down for personal reasons at the end of this year. Kelly, 60, made the announcement in a Friday letter to the Board of County Commissioners. Her term was scheduled to expire at the end of 2014. “It has been an honor and privilege to serve this community as prosecuting attorney for the past 11 years but it is time for me to step down,” Kelly wrote. Prosecuting attorney is one of two partisan positions in county government, the other being commissioner. Since Kelly is a Republican, the Clallam County Republican Party will select three candidates for the commissioners to interview after Kelly’s resignation. County Administrator Jim

Jones said the commissioners’ tentative plan is to interviews candidates at the Jan. 6 work session and make an appointment Kelly at the Jan. 7 board meeting. The person appointed to serve out the remainder of Kelly’s term will face election in November 2014 or step down Dec. 31, 2014. Kelly recently prosecuted the seven-week retrial of Darold Stenson in Kitsap County Superior Court in Port Orchard.

Stenson found guilty Stenson was found guilty last Tuesday of two counts of aggravated murder for the 1993 shooting deaths of his wife and business partner near Sequim. Meanwhile, Kelly’s husband has been battling health problems. “As you are aware, personal matters developed last year which competed for my focus on the job and community,” Kelly said in her letter to the board.

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man wanted since Wednesday evening for firstdegree robbery when a pursesnatching ended in a woman’s injury turned himself in after a police manhunt and foot pursuit failed to catch him. Police say Michael Thomas Riley, 25, took a woman’s purse as she was loading groceries into her car in the Port Angeles Walmart parking lot at about 8 p.m. Wednesday. The owner of the purse, a 30-year-old woman, was cut and bruised after she chased down the man who had grabbed it, said Detective Sgt. John Keegan with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office. She ran after him as he headed for his pickup truck and tried to slam his arm in the door as he
