Small Gases, Big Effect

THE OCEANS

Water Vapour Feedback Warm air can absorb more water vapour than cold air. So when the air temperature rises, the water vapour content in the atmosphere increases too.1 Since water vapour also functions as a greenhouse gas, the additional water vapour

in the atmosphere intensifies the greenhouse effect and adds to the ever-rapid rise in temperature.2 Thus a self-accelerating process known as water vapour feedback is established, which speeds up global warming.3
