We pride ourselves on recruiting and working with the very best. For more than 20 years, Pendle Performance MD, Martin Westwell, has been concentrating on developing, researching and innovating when it comes to ECU remapping and OBD tuning.

From the early days of motorsport preparation and fabrication with Talbot Sunbeam rally cars and big-bore twin-carb Pinto engine builds, through to more recent focused work with Porsche, BMW and VAG ECU tuning, we can tackle almost any ECU from around the globe here at our Lancashire HQ. As well as the aforementioned 30-plus agents across the country and beyond, there are also regional Pendle Performance HQs and R&D centers across the continent, all with advanced four-wheel drive MAHA dynamometer. We’re equipped to deal with any car of any vintage with horsepower figures that can eclipse 1000bhp and up to 2.5 tonnes in gross vehicle weight.

PENDLE PERFORMANCE OEM SOFTWARE CALIBRATION Working with the vehicle’s factory ECU (engine control unit) software, Pendle Performance products offer safe and rigorously tested upgrades to this coding, allowing any vehicle to function at its full potential whilst retaining the safety and reliability that comes with a manufacturer’s original mapping.

Programmable ECU tables can be tweaked and tailored to alter economy characteristics, fuel trim, ignition curves and boost settings. As such, greater efficiency and power can often be extracted from most engines, given the wide-ranging global market, terrains, climates and fuel qualities that manufacturers have to contend with when considering emissions, warranty, drivability and overall performance.

Opting for a tailored solution means that each and every map we write can be dyno tuned to perfection for each individual. Remapping the software and fine-tuning the engine calibration can increase a car’s power and torque output, and maximise its overall performance by as much as 35%, particularly when it comes to modern turbocharged engines.

By using only the most cutting-edge hardware and software, Pendle Performance is able to not only tune vehicles that the majority of other companies can’t, but also provide safer and more effective products than anyone else on the market. ECUs have progressed enormously since the 1970s as emissions and environmental concerns led to total sensor-based electronic control during the 1980s.

The ‘maps’ for the various sensors were then stored on a microchip that could be re-written and soldered back into place on the circuit board.

Thanks to continued development with On-Board Diagnostic technology, it’s now possible to remap the ECU without even removing it, via the 15-pin OBD2 port that every new car houses thanks to global emissions legislation.

By harnessing the power of this unit, Pendle Performance can improve throttle response, iron out any flat spots, up the power and torque figures, improve economy and even shift the power band around the rev range to suit individual vehicles. A flexible, tractable engine remains our end goal, but we can easily cope with supporting hardware upgrades to maximise the potential of intercooler, turbo, injector, intake and exhaust revisions.

POWER. PRECISION. PERFORMANCE. It’s not merely about chasing numbers here at Pendle Performance. While pub bragging rights are all well and good, improved drivability, economy and performance are paramount concerns.

Harnessing the calibration potential of TDI ECUs has become increasingly popular in recent decades, and never more so than now. However, the evolution of the ECU has also seen them migrate from governing ignition curves and advance of mechanical injection systems to tri-core processors with built-in physics models.

Recalibrating these systems requires considerable knowledge, time and development as they control everything from diagnostic functions, to myriad sensors and complex CAN BUS communication signals throughout the entire vehicle. ECUs have certainly taken on a new level of control over the last decade.

A product to suit all With Pendle Performance, safety remains paramount, and not pushing an engine beyond its limit is vital.

Striving for a perfect balance of thermal management, longevity and ample performance is where our years of experience comes to the fore.

Our custom tuning service caters for any need, whether it’s economy tuning, mid-range response improvements, or all-out high-revving track day thrills – we can tailor the map, and in many cases the supporting hardware to suit. Lambda sensors can be coded out, DPF removal is entirely possible and even hardware upgrades such as smaller supercharger pulleys, uprated camshafts and freer-flowing induction and exhaust systems.

Custom software can also take into account V-Max speed limiter removal, boost limits and even left-foot braking protection. Twin clutch gearboxes can also be remapped to improve shift times or increase clamping pressure to cope with any additional power.

Whether it’s a Siemens, Bosch, Denso, Delphi or any other kind of ECU on the receiving of our calibration wizardry, we can adapt the fuel, spark, speed, throttle position, lambda and load tables to get the very best out of it.

Accurate air flow modelling is also a big part of what we do and Pendle HQ is equipped with industry-leading fans to simulate up to 140mph wind speed.

Choose from one of our three packages to tailor your tuning potential.

The process for the majority of ECUs is simply a case of connecting the relevant remapping tool to the car’s ECU via the OBD port, selecting the correct car and engine code from the drop-down menu and then reading off the original file.

Some protected ECUs, such as Bosch’s EDC17, MED17 and MED7, may require further equipment in order to crack them and read the OE calibration. In this case, our Silver package comes with our BDM – Backdoor Debugging Module – that allows the ECU to be read and written thanks to pin-out technology from the KESS V2 module. This might sound daunting, but we can provide full training at an agent near you. We also have picture details on correct connections for the ECU you encounter.

With the original file downloaded from the car, send it to us via our tuning manager system. Within an hour, a file will be returned to you via the website and you’ll be able to keep track of progress on the file and which engineer is working on it in real time. This is a service unique to Pendle Performance and one that we’re especially proud of. What’s more, you can always contact the engineer (author) in person to discuss the file as it’s being coded – yet another industry first from Pendle.

How much can I earn?

Earning potential is uncapped and very much determined by how many vehicles you tune. We keep things simple by having a commission fee of £100 per file and have no minimum sales quota or targets to be met.

There are no monthly fees associated with becoming a Pendle Performance agent as we place the emphasis upon you growing and succeeding with the minimum of stress. After all, your success is our success!
