Organisations from across Lancashire gathered at Crow Wood Hotel and Spa Resort for the event organised by Chamber Low Carbon. Categories included the Community Engagement Award, Innovation Award, Green Champion Award, Public Sector Award, Energy E ciency Award, Destination Net Zero Award, Circular Economy Award and the Sustainable Social Enterprise Award which the independent external judges awarded to Pendle Education Trust.

The event was supported by North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, Boost – Lancashire’s Business Growth Hub and Businesswise Solutions.

Jude Evetts, Pendle Education Trust Strategic Marketing and Development Manager, said: “Myself and Adam Whalley, our Facilities Manager, spoke to the judge of the Sustainable Social Enterprise Award about the wide range of initiatives we have in our trust and five schools to help us achieve our aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

“From taking part in events like ‘No Mow May’ and ‘Walk to School Week’ to the installation of LED lighting and solar panels in our schools, sustainability is really important to us and our children.

“The enthusiasm of our young people, and especially our in school green teams, to reduce our trust’s carbon footprint and protect the planet for the future is incredible. Recently, children from our five schools presented their sustainability ideas to a panel of judges made up of Pendle Education Trust’s Chief Executive, Anita Ghidotti, Jacob Lane from Silentnight, Green Party Councillor Scott Cunli e from Sustainable Clarets and Afrasaib Anwar, Leader of Burnley Council. They were all really impressed with the range of ideas the children pitched and awarded each group £100 – donated by Silentnight – to start putting their ideas into practice.

“We’re delighted that all of the hard work that is continuing to take place in our schools to make them greener was recognised by the judges at the Lancashire Business Environment Awards.”
