June Events Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital Breastfeeding Support Group Tuesdays, June 1 - 29, 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Virtual meeting A support group for breastfeeding families. The informal group provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed. Women wanting more information about breastfeeding are also welcome. Facilitated by a lactation consultant from OB/GYN. Please call 301-8337 for more information. This group is free but pre-registration is required in order to obtain virtual access. Alzheimer's Disease Support Group Tuesday, June 1, 6:00 p.m. Virtual Meeting The Alzheimer’s Support Group provides information and support to area residents who have loved ones coping with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Currently the group is meeting via Zoom. Free. Those interested in participating should contact Cheri R. Blouin, LSW at 301-6237 or at cblouin@pbmc.org for the meeting details. Practicing Meditation Wednesday, June 9, noon to 1:00 p.m. Virtual class Whether you have never meditated or are interested in re-starting your meditation practice, this class will support you as we practice together. Simple approaches using the breath and body will be included. There will be time for both practice and discussion. Postpartum Support Group Thursdays, June 10 & 24, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Virtual meeting This support group was created by a group of women and moms, who have gone through challenging postpartum experiences themselves and/or have been educated on them. We offer a safe place for new and pregnant mothers and families to talk, listen, get support and gain education on postpartum experiences. This is a free group for moms, moms-to-be and family members who want to connect with others. The group meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. For more information, please call 505-4140. Advance Care Planning Workshop Tuesday, June 15, noon to 1:00 p.m. Virtual class Advance care planning is an organized process of reflecting upon and discussing goals for future health care decisions. It is an important part of creating an advance directive, which is a written plan that represents your individual preferences and tells others what medical care you want or do not want to receive if you become too ill in the future to tell them. Join trained advance care planning facilitator Vikki Swan for this online workshop where you will begin the process of filling out your advance directive. Concussion Support Group Tuesday, June 15, noon to 1:00 p.m. Virtual meeting Healing from a brain injury takes a long time. Join facilitator Moriah Grant, OTD, OTR/L, for this informative and interactive support group where you can share your struggles with concussion; learn more about concussions, treatment and outcomes; and connect with others who have had similar experiences. Join us on scenic Megunticook River with Maine Sport Outfitters to learn basic SUP skills, including strokes needed to control the board and how to get on and off the board safely. Join SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educators from Knox and Waldo counties for this free four-week class that will give you the skills to shop, cook and eat healthy foods while stretching your SNAP dollars and staying within your grocery budget. There will be recipe demonstrations at each fun and interactive virtual session. All participants will receive a colorful cookbook with 24 healthy, low-cost recipes and nutrition tips!
