August Virtual Events Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital PBMC and WCGH are offering childbirth education and a few outdoor community health & wellness classes in person. Please note all attendees will need to abide by social distancing and masking guidelines. The support groups listed will meet virtually through online platforms. You will receive access to the support group or class after registering. Thank you for your understanding.

Childbirth Preparation Class Saturday, August 1, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Waldo County General Hospital, Classroom, Ground Floor 118 Northport Avenue, Belfast Topics covered include signs of labor; what to expect at the hospital; stages of labor; pain relief options including relaxation, breathing, medications and epidural; complications; Caesarean birth and other questions you may have. Virtual Breastfeeding Support Group - WCGH Mondays, August 3 – 31, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. (Every Monday, please call ahead if it falls on a holiday) This group offers breastfeeding support and guidance to breastfeeding mothers. Our certified lactation consultants and certified lactation counselors will lead breastfeeding topics such as the early weeks, fussy babies, common problems and solutions, going back to work, nutrition and long term breastfeeding success. Virtual Breastfeeding Support Group - PBMC Tuesdays, August 4 – 25, Noon to 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. (Every Tuesday, please call ahead if it falls on a holiday) A support group for breastfeeding families. The informal group provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed. Women wanting more information about breastfeeding are also welcome. Advance Care Planning Workshop Tuesday, August 4, 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Virtual class Advance care planning is an organized process of reflecting upon and discussing goals for future health care decisions. It is an important part of creating an advance directive, which is a written plan that represents your individual preferences and tells others what medical care you want or do not want to receive if you become too ill in the future to tell them. Join trained advance care planning facilitator Vikki Swan for this online workshop where you will begin the process of filling out your advance directive. Introduction to Sea Kayaking Wednesday, August 5, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Maine Sport Kiosk, Camden Harbor, 16 Bayview Street, Camden With the miles of coastline and many lakes in Maine, kayaking is a great way to stay active. Join us for a leisurely tour of our beautiful Midcoast with Maine Sport Outfitters’ Registered Maine Guides. Basic paddling and safety instructions will be provided. Children ages 10 and older are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Weather permitting. $25 registration fee includes kayaks and gear. This three-week class will give you the opportunity to pause, reflect and focus on yourself. You will bring your own agenda and work on whatever wellness goals you choose. Whether you want to get better sleep, increase your physical activity, work on being more positive or adopt healthier eating habits, Health & Wellness Coach Vikki Swan will provide tools, structure and guidance as participants support each other in achieving their personal goals. $19.50 registration fee is required. Simple Strategies for Fall Prevention Tuesday, August 18, 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. Virtual Class Many believe that falls are inevitable as we get older. That doesn’t have to be the case. Building balance and strength are essential to preventing falls and maintaining your independence. Join personal trainer Rachael McCormick and certified A Matter of Balance facilitator Megan Day to learn exercises and easy changes you can implement at home to decrease your chances of falling. GentleBirth Wednesdays, August 26 – September 23, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pen Bay Physicians Building, Conference Room C 4 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport Enjoy a new approach to child birth class combining brain science, birth science and technology to empower your positive birth through preparation. This class will include training and education in mindfulness, hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and sports psychology. A mobile aop will also be able to enhance the learning experience.
