T he building is situated in between several rail lines in North Melbourne Station and borders several highways. In a noisy environment, the playful façade of the building provides a visual feast for the waiting passengers...
Thus a huge cavity is left in between the facade and the main building block. This left spaces to create all sorts of strange spaces in between. This includes a small lecture hall, study rooms, cafes and inflated spaces and large commercial spaces which are independent from the main building. Within the building, these small spaces carry on.

The domiciliary settings boast an array of captivating interactive elements. Preserved during the refurbishment process, these structures retain certain original materials and architectural features, contributing to their unique charm and historical significance. Notably, the hierarchical organization of the buildings manifests a clear demarcation between public and private domains, serving to delineate the spatial arrangement.

The ground floor serves as the hub for communal activities, accommodating the living room, kitchen, and other essential spaces. Drawing inspiration from the practical logic inherent in Japanese housing systems, the internal layout of the rooms displays a thoughtful configuration. Adjoining the entryway, one finds seamless connections to vital facilities such as the restroom, laundry area, and cloakroom, facilitating a convenient and functional living experience.
A central core space aptly accommodates the majority of private endeavors, fostering a harmonious and secluded ambiance for intimate family interactions. Ascending to the first level, the bedrooms are meticulously designed to offer utmost comfort and solace, ensuring a tranquil private sanctuary for inhabitants.
In essence, the dwelling's interactive elements, pragmatic spatial organization, and skillful amalgamation of interior and exterior spaces establish an inviting, functional, and aesthetically pleasing abode, conducive to fostering familial bonds and enriching daily experiences.

D ETAIL SECTION DRAWING
The house incorporates a combination of cross laminated timber and brick elevations to stimulate the potential of the materials.
At the same time, viburnums cling to the metal frame, turning the west face of the building into a 'green curtain'. The vegetation on the façade grows in pots in the space between the metal frame and the façade, and there are four fixed species of native vegetation. The green buffer creates a microclimate and saves the energy needed to cool the room.

The increasingly powerful architectural technologies have enabled humans to create grander and taller structures, but they have often overlooked the relationship between architecture and the land.

T he renaissance of indigenous architecture has been largely driven by a persistent destruction of land and nature by capitalist interests.
As traditional ecosystems are disrupted and natural resources are depleted, many communities are turning to their own cultural heritage to find sustainable and environmentally conscious solutions for building and land use.

Hong Kong

I n hong kong, a building called the monster building comes into view. The high density of housing and the huge impact of the recession led to the residents no longer wanting to be confined to a crowded living space. So the residents decided, to conceive a grand plan to renovate the building in order to give the ground floor residents the same abundance of sunlight and spatial justice. The allocation of space to the
inhabitants was no longer restricted, architecture was no longer a symbol, but a way. The slums are no longer a doomsday spectacle but represent 'growth', a lively, traditional and enjoyable 'neighbourhood' culture.
