Two athletes and their coach traveled to Kansas City, Missouri to compete in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Trampoline and Tumbling National Championships July 2 – 11, 2013. Daniel Molstad, Level 9 and Haydon Russell Level 6 showed the USA just what our small town is all about! Daniel placed 9th on Trampoline at the competition featuring 2200 athletes from over 40 states in the USA! While Haydon Russell at his first ever National Championships, finished 11th on Trampoline. Haydon also made an awesome showing by placing 2nd on Tumbling and to top it off Haydon is National Champion on Double Mini Trampoline. Patti Swenson continues to train top level athletes at A Flip Zone while still having fun with coaching. Patti keeps the workouts fun for the athletes while creating a safe training environment. The athletes at A Flip Zone do not have to train the long grueling hours that artistic gymnastics requires. Haydon and Daniel train four to six hours per week. Quality training does not have to require long hours. A Flip Zone offers Recreational classes as well at competition for those interested. All classes train side by side with multiple levels training together. Training is taught by progression allowing a beginner to work alongside advanced athletes. Younger athletes learn along with the older athletes. Positive encouragement is used at all levels. Safety is number one in the gym. All activities are fun and there is no high pressure or expectation. Each person is allowed to progress at “their own rate” and rewarded for their progress! The gym is located at 17505 Hamilton Pool Road down the dirt road next to Rocky Creek BBQ. Classes are offered Monday, Tuesday or Thursday 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm and Tuesday or Thursday 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm for ages 5 and up. Toddler classes for 18 months through 4 years are on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Call 512-264-1070 or 512-826-6846 for prices and to take a free class.

Around Bee Cave THE CHURCH AT BEE CAVE: THE SMALL COUNTRY CHURCH THAT “HAD ME AT HELLO”! By Martha Ballariano

Antebellum Oaks is a beautiful hill country jewel tucked away in the country just a couple of minutes from the RR 620 that on Sundays at 10:15 am is home to The Church at Bee Cave, the most friendly church I have ever been in. On June 24th-26th the church offered a wonderful 3-day Cowboy themed Vacation Bible School (VBS) and my daughter was one of the 60 kids that happily participated. The kids learned some Bible stories and also enjoyed a variety of fun games and activities like singing and dancing, bobbing for apples, sack racing, nerf can shooting, water balloon toss etc. The VBS was so much fun that it resembled more an authentic kid Texan camp than a VBS. After years of attending mega-churches, and getting used to them, I was pleasantly surprised after my daughter’s insistence we attended a service on a Sunday at 10:15am. The folks at The Church at Bee Cave were so friendly that they made us feel right at home. The Church at Bee Cave was started 5 years ago by 11 families from Lakeway and surrounding areas. They wanted to have a church that felt more like a family and could be flexible enough to be mission oriented. Under the direction of Matt Peacock, Lead Pastor, the church has and now has the Children’s ministry, Youth ministry, small groups and “Partners in Hope”. “Partners in Hope” is an organization that mobilizes the people and resources of the Lake Travis community to serve one family in need at a time, providing hope for a meaningful life on a firm foundation. From the beauty of the surroundings at Antebellum Oaks with its mature trees, ponds, and small waterfalls, to the warmth of its people, The Church at Bee Caves had me at Hello!

Submitted by Zainab Banks, Travis County Sheriff’s Office

National Night Out is a great opportunity for citizens and law enforcement to partner up against crime. We invite you to attend the event, meet your neighbors and commit to helping law enforcement reduce crime in your community. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IS DESIGNED TO: • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness • Generate support and participation in crime efforts • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations • Let criminals know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back During the event, residents in neighborhoods throughout Travis County and across the Texas are asked to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police officers, firefighters and EMS paramedics. Events such as cookouts, block parties and neighborhood walks will all occur simultaneously throughout the state. Please visit our website at https://www.tcsheriff.org/community/ events/199-national-night-out-2013 for more information and party registration forms. Or you can scan the QR Code.
