contents Welcome to the SLTN Bar Guide 2017. Scotland's bars and pubs are amongst the best in the world, run by entrepreneurs who are as resilient as they are resourceful. But even the on-trade's top operators can't do it all alone. In the following pages you’ll find information on a wide range of brands, suppliers and service providers, each highlighting what they can do to help Scotland's licensees stay at the sharp end of their respective markets. We hope you find the guide useful.

beer line cleaning

A clear route to clean beer lines

Service cuts costs and improves draught quality, says Clear Brew

W

HEN it comes to draught beer in the on-trade, quality is king – meaning regular cleaning of beer lines is absolutely fundamental. Clear Brew is an eco-led professional beer line cleaning company that has been operating from its head office in Cornwall for a decade and has branches throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The company offers an alternative to regular in-house line cleaning and currently provides regular services to over 1000 licensed establishments. Clear Brew provides a dedicated professional beer line cleaning service for both keg and cask lines, providing a fully managed service designed to maintain quality on a regular repeat three-weekly cycle. Using a specialised water-fed mixing unit, coupled with inhibitors plus

market-leading chemicals, the labourinclusive service is carried out by its experienced technicians and managed through a nationwide network of highly motivated franchised owner/operators who care passionately about what they do. Clear Brew said the service it provides is guaranteed to save operators money, reduce waste and improve the quality of draught products; the firm said it will also maximise yields and add real value to a licensee’s business. The beer line cleaning company said its customers not only use less water and less gas, they no longer have to purchase and handle chemical line cleaner, and save internal labour charges and staff training. On top of this the ‘ullage’, which at the moment goes down the drain each week, will only be thrown down the drain every

three weeks – a total of 17 times a year, meaning that for 35 weeks of the year they are selling that entire previously waste product at full retail price. Furthermore, Clear Brew is so confident in its service that its initial full line clean, cellar and equipment check is free of charge. On completion of this first free clean the company will provide a quotation that demonstrates the savings that a business can make whilst also improving the quality of dispense draught products – and seek no contract and no commitment to continue. Clear Brew said the service it offers makes sense, clearly works and provides a service that landlords and business owners come to rely on and are happy to endorse.

Clear Brew provides a fully managed regular dedicated beer line cleaning service.

cider

Focus on innovation and premium is key Kopparberg proud of being the top-selling fruit cider

B

UILT back in 1882, the Kopparberg “Bryggeri”, remains independent and is today owned by the Bronsman family. The brewery is the home of the company’s uniquely refreshing fruit cider and fruit lager. Kopparberg was the first fruit cider in the UK and is now the bestselling fruit cider brand in the UK on-trade with almost half (48%) of cider drinkers having purchased a Kopparberg across summer 2016. Looking to replicate this performance in 2017, Kopparberg will continue to focus on its premium fruit refreshment positioning and lead the innovation agenda. At Kopparberg, the focus is on delivering an exciting, innovative and premium portfolio that stays true to the company’s premium fruit refreshment positioning. Consumers recognise this and, in turn, are looking for high-quality, authentic imports and are willing to pay a premium

for these products. It’s those licensees that recognise this and reduce their ranges to include only the big hitters within the fruit cider category that will not only reduce customer confusion, but also increase their profits. From an innovation point of view, Kopparberg has the only alcoholfree fruit cider on the market and it’s been introduced to address the need consumers have for responsible alternatives in the market — Kopparberg’s best-selling variants – Mixed Fruit, Strawberry & Lime and Pear – come in alcohol-free alternatives. The first new cider in three years has also just been launched – Kopparberg Blueberry & Lime – and the company is extremely proud of the reception it has received and how it has performed so far. Kopparberg also extended its premium fruit refreshment range by launching

Kopparberg Fruit Lager in 2016. This product has gone from strength to strength, delivering a RSV of £3m in just one year. Available now, the new product is an exciting addition to Kopparberg’s range, taking its fruit expertise into the beer category. With an ABV of 5%, Kopparberg Fruit Lager is available in a crisp Lemon & Lime flavour, and aims to extend the drinking occasion in the spring and summer for younger millennial drinkers, by giving them a refreshing alternative to other lagers. Beginning in May, Kopparberg is investing £6m in an integrated marketing campaign that will be activated via TV, outdoor, digital, PR, social media, experiential and in-store channels. The multi-channel activity will focus on the core range of Kopparberg cider and Fruit Lager.

cognac

Cognac House shows contemporary spirit Latest release from Martell is ‘richer and more intense’ expression crafted from a single distillation source

I

NTEREST in the heritage of drinks brands continues to grow – and, with more than three centuries of history behind it, Cognac House Martell has no shortage. Martell was founded by Jean Martell in 1715 at the height of French art de vivre, when gastronomy, taste and craftsmanship were celebrated and enjoyed with style. These became the three pillars of the House of Martell and remain intrinsic to the Martell vision today. For three centuries, Martell has produced, exported and marketed Cognacs which are recognised worldwide for their outstanding quality and finesse, obtained through double distillation of exclusively clear wines and aging in finegrained French oak casks. Launching in the UK in May 2017, Martell

is bringing a contemporary new look to the Cognac category with a refresh of its original VS expression – introducing Martell VS Single Distillery, specially crafted from a single distillation source and bringing a richer and more intense Cognac expression to the Martell collection. Inspired by the iconic bottle of Martell Cordon Bleu, Martell VS Single Distillery is a reflection of Martell’s heritage and renowned quality. The new design reinvents the original shape of the Cognac ‘montre’ – the traditional sampling bottle used for Cognac – whilst retaining Martell’s prestigious image. Bearing the Martell swift emblem on the bottle, Martell VS Single Distillery’s simple and elegant design is complemented by an artisanal cap and a paper ribbon, stamped with the founder’s signature.

Martell is the only Cognac brand to double distill exclusively clear wines that have been cleared of all sediments, revealing and preserving the authentic fruit aromas of the grapes which characterises the unique, high quality Martell style. New Martell VS Single Distillery takes this same approach a step further, as each bottle is blended from eaux-de-vie derived from a single distillation source – one of Martell’s carefully selected partner distilleries in the Cognac region. The result is a richer and more intense Cognac expression of the trademark Martell style, complementing the same taste characteristics, but with a smoother and fruitier blend; intense notes of plum, apricot and candied lemon are revealed to the nose, allowing the round and sweet aromas to be enjoyed neat and in long drinks.

CONTRACT FURNITURE

Think twice before you break the bank Furnishing a venue doesn’t have to cost the earth, says Mayfair

C

ONTRACT grade commercial furniture is another one of those minefields for licensees setting up, refurbishing, or updating their establishment, but it doesn’t need to be. There are plenty of companies in the UK selling commercial furniture but many of them charge extortionate prices for products when identical counterparts can be sourced elsewhere at a fraction of the price. Commercial furniture supplier Mayfair Furniture is a specialist in the supply of premium quality table bases, table tops, and restaurant seating. With products sourced directly from manufacturers in the UK and around the world products are imported in bulk and the savings passed on directly to operators who typically can save thousands of pounds on kitting out their establishment with

tables and chairs. There’s a lot to choose from. Table tops are kept in stock in a range of colours and materials, from laminate tops starting at £19.95, wood veneer tops, solid wood tops and outdoors tops, to classic and modern styles of restaurant dining chairs with prices for a solid wood dining chair with an upholstered seat from £39.99. Compare those prices with other commercial furniture suppliers and you’ll be in for a shock. As well as the wide selection of stock items, if you need something specific like tables that will match the colours of your existing furnishings, or chairs upholstered in materials of your own choosing, Mayfair Furniture offers a full bespoke service with great flexibility and choice on offer. Peace of mind is everything, which is why it’s always better to see before

you buy. In 2017 Mayfair Furniture opened a new showroom at its offices in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, where you can view the full range of restaurant tables and seating. No matter where you are located in the UK delivery need not be a problem. In 2015 Mayfair Furniture teamed up with Knowles transport, an international distribution company with a track record for performance, reliability and an ecoconscious approach to distribution. This means that all orders are in safe hands with an experienced palletised distribution service that can offer next day delivery to almost anywhere in the UK. The company’s UK-based call centre has experienced staff with a wealth of knowledge of the products on offer ready to answer any questions you may have, or to offer advice on commercial furniture.

craft beer

Crafting a brighter future for Scots beer Keith Brewery will expand its range of craft beers in the UK – and is also on track to achieve record turnover

K

EITH Brewery Ltd kicked off 2017 in style when social media giant, The Lad Bible, got hold of the brewery’s market leading export product – Snake Venom by Brewmeister Beers. What happened next has blown the team away. After posting a video on its popular page, which has over 21 million likes, on January 13 The Lad Bible’s post of the infamous beer quickly went viral, reaching millions around the world; the video has now been watched 16.2m times, shared by over 160k people, liked by 80k and 184k people have commented. If that wasn’t enough, since the video went viral, the team has received over 3000 direct sales enquiries about Snake Venom and one of Keith Brewery’s soonto-be live online retailers has already dealt with over 35,000 enquiries. Of the 3000

brewery enquiries, one third originated from USA, one third came from panEuropean countries (including the UK) and the rest came from other high growth markets across the globe. The team in Keith, Moray, had no idea about the video until it appeared on The Lad Bible – it was hard to miss it! However, they have embraced the reaction and, in turn, accelerated its online and direct sales offering to meet the incredible demand whilst also employing the services of a PR agency to help maximise potential from this success. As a result, the company is to launch Snake Venom in the UK on specialist drinks websites, where sales of the strong beer can be supervised; every individual bottle purchased will also include an official document, advising the consumer to drink

the product in moderation. The online release of Snake Venom will complement the current range of beers that was launched under the Keith Brewery Ltd. brand at the start of 2016, and is the next step for a company that is on track for a record year of turnover. “However, it is extremely important that we do not rest on our laurels,” said chief operating officer Andrew Chapman. “The success of Snake Venom in various Asian markets has been paramount to our growth over the past 24 months and it is important that we continue to develop and grow our brand in other overseas markets. However, the launch of Snake Venom in the UK through e-commerce, allows us to operate in a type of industry that, up until recently, we had very limited presence in.”

epos

An intelligent approach to EPOS System can grow loyalty, sales and profits, says intelligentpos

I

N the fast-moving working environment that is hospitality operators need electronic point of sale (EPOS) systems to be reliable, efficient and effective. Intelligentpos is an EPOS supplier that understands the need for a slick, fast and mobile system. Since its merger with iZettle, one of the world’s fastest growing financial technology companies, intelligentpos has also moved into the European market. Intelligentpos, the UK’s first cloudbased, iPad-based EPOS application, is user-friendly and allows staff to record transactions on the go. Iain Pert of the Jolly Botanist bar in Edinburgh praised the system’s usability and mobility. “We just thought it was a great idea to use iPads,” he said. “We can always use our iPhones to get into the till system when

we aren’t there, it is very user-friendly, we have very young staff – they took to it really easily – and we’ve progressed with intelligentpos in the same way that we have with the pub and every year there’s something better in it. “It’s just a great system – we recommend it to all our friends that have pubs.” Not only is intelligentpos mobile and easy to use, it also allows users to manage their business remotely using the ‘backoffice’ feature. From the click of a button business owners can check and modify reports, stock and inventory levels, prices, loyalty programmes and employee timesheets. The ‘reports’ feature provides precise, accurate statistics on the likes of transactions and daily totals. Sebastian Collins of the Soho Theatre Bar cited this as one of his favourite product features. “The Backoffice is so easy to use,

everything can be traced, everything can be tracked,” he said. “I can go through at any point and find an anomaly and it’s really easy for me to trace that, so it keeps my accounts much more precise. For each of the shows we have different audiences; different audiences prefer different types of drinks, so it just means that when we know another show is coming up which is similar, we can make sure that these drinks and these services are available for those shows.” The already large and constantly increasing number of businesses of all sizes, in hospitality and retail, adopting intelligentpos is testimony to the importance of the EPOS solution and reporting tool. Intelligentpos is the affordable and efficient way to sell more, generate loyalty, increase profits and grow a business.

finance

A proud history of supporting the trade Best known as a brewer and wholesaler, Tennent’s is also building a reputation as a finance provider

F

OR licensed trade operators, gaining access to finance through traditional means can be difficult. However, there are alternative options available. Nurturing and maintaining the ontrade is a key priority of Tennent’s and the company offers a range of financial support through the lending wing of its business. It can provide everything from small loans for repairs all the way up to seven figure sums for major refurbishments or to purchase new premises. Tennent’s has invested over £45 million into the Scottish on-trade over the past six years. The company’s ambition is to increase this as part of its ongoing support for Scotland’s licensed trade. As all decision making is taken in

Scotland, the business can usually move much faster than other lenders, and can often pay funds within weeks. Increasingly, the company is seen as the first port of call for lending in the licensed trade, offering finance deals ranging from £1000 to over £1 million. Customers have said the process couldn’t be easier and Tennent’s is making a real difference. There are several routes available to secure funding. A five-strong investment team is on the ground across Scotland, with the sole aim of supporting licensees’ business objectives through finance and loans. The company’s account management team is also on hand to discuss funding options, and its customer contact centre

is available seven days a week to take any queries. The process is designed to be straightforward and simple for customers. As a business based in Scotland, which knows the trade and its customers, Tennent’s is easy to deal with and can make a quick decision on proposals. The company is able to help publicans choose the finance arrangement that’s right for their business, offering flexibility in terms, and can play the part of either a lead, secondary or tertiary funder. The key item to have in place is a clear plan for how the investment will be used. It’s important to have a business plan or projections supporting this, and up to date trading accounts for the business – demonstrating understanding of the project and the costs involved is crucial.

SUPPORT ON

AP At Tennent’s, we take a refreshing approach to lending. As all decision making is taken in Scotland, we can usually move much faster than other lenders, and can often pay funds within weeks. Increasingly we are seen as the first port of call for lending in the licensed trade. We have invested £45m in Scotland’s licensed premises in the last six years all across the country, from Stornoway to Stranraer. With finance deals ranging from £1k to £1m+, our customers tell us the process couldn’t be easier and that we’re making a real difference. gin

Edinburgh is at the heart of craft gin Scotland’s capital city has had a big influence on the flavours that flourish in the Edinburgh Gin range

E

DINBURGH Gin, established in 2010, is part of Ian Macleod Distillers, one of the most respected Scottish, independent, family-owned companies in the spirits industry. Edinburgh Gin is influenced by the diverse spirit of its namesake. Its smallbatch, award-winning gin range is distilled at the eponymous Edinburgh Gin Distillery, located in Edinburgh’s west end at Rutland Place – a highlyrated visitor attraction and at a second distillery at the Biscuit Factory, in the historic port of Leith. Edinburgh is internationally renowned as a capital of thought leaders, creatives and inventors and this underpins the continued development of the

Edinburgh gin range. Scotland has had a long heritage of distilling and Edinburgh Gin is at the forefront of the gin renaissance in Scotland, distilling a wide variety of gins, working with new botanicals and creating unique flavours to suit a modern palate. Always pushing boundaries, Edinburgh Gin is constantly in pursuit of knowledge and committed to partnering with world renowned centres of excellence. Its unique Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Heriot-Watt University’s Brewing and Distilling course helps Edinburgh Gin to maintain the attention of gin-lovers through innovation and the creation of new recipes. Edinburgh Gin is one of the few

Scottish gin brands which has a diverse portfolio of gins, appealing to a broad spectrum of consumers and dedicated to producing quality, contemporary gin. The range of gins started with the juniper-forward classic London Dry Edinburgh Gin, made with 13 botanicals that balance softness with bright citrus flavours. Edinburgh Cannonball Gin is a punchy navy strength gin with a hint of Szechuan pepper and citrus – ideal for a gin Martini. Released in 2015, Edinburgh Seaside Gin was inspired by the east coast of Scotland and the native botanicals foraged from the shoreline. Its popularity soon propelled this gin into the core family of Edinburgh Gin.

live sport

Sky Sports knocks summer for six Broadcaster gearing up for raft of major live sporting events

T

HE summer ahead is shaping up to be a bumper few months of live sport on Sky Sports and pubs can look forward to driving trade with six key events that will attract customers into bars up and down the country.

Football goes global In June, pub-goers will be heading to their local to support the home nations as the World Cup qualifiers continue. With Scotland hosting England at Hampden Park, passions are sure to be ignited and viewers will look to soak up the atmosphere with like-minded fans in pubs and bars. And with England still finding their feet under new manager Gareth Southgate, Scotland will be hoping to overturn the defeat of their previous meeting with a home victory.

With Scotland hosting England at Hampden, passions are sure to be ignited. There’s also action from Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, giving landlords lots of opportunities to get creative around themed British and Irish food and drink offers.

The Lion’s share of Rugby Union action

The Silverstone spectacle The world’s best Formula One drivers will race on British soil on July 16th and Sky Sports will be trackside to capture all the action, including the practice sessions, across the entire weekend. Motor racing fans will be eager to see if Lewis Hamilton can repeat his victory of 2016 to take a record fifth British Grand Prix title in front of his home crowd and will be fascinated to see how the championship is shaping up in the absence of reigning champion Nico Rosberg. The weekend will provide the chance for landlords to keep F1 fans in venues for longer as the famous British race unfolds.

The Rugby Union race for PRO12 glory The PRO12 competition will reach its conclusion at the end of May and rugby union fans will be eager to see who can qualify for the European Champions Cup as a result. The Edinburgh Rugby team and Glasgow Warriors will be battling it out against the other teams in the competition to reach the top and venues can look forward to enticing rugby fans into their bars with all the action, live on Sky Sports.

A hole in one with The Open The Open takes place at Royal Birkdale this year where players like Rory McIlory, Henrik Stenson and Phil Mikelson will all vie for the famous British golf title. In 2016 day one and two of the Open Championship, broadcast for the first time on Sky Sports, each attracted over half a million viewers out of home so there is a clear opportunity for licensees to draw golf fans in to their venues. With four days of coverage to enjoy, from the opening tee shot to the final putt, it should be a fascinating competition to watch.

Motor racing fans will be keen to see if Lewis Hamilton can take a record fifth British Grand Prix title. Up to the oche with the World Matchplay Darts Pubs and darts complement each other perfectly and the sport is increasingly popular with out of home viewers. Taking place in Blackpool from July 22 to 30, the World Matchplay Darts will see the world’s top players take each other on to see who can take the title. Pub-goers can look forward to afternoon and evening sessions across nine days, watching the likes of reigning champion Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld up at the oche.

And that’s not all……. It’s not just the Sky Summer Six that will keep pub-goers happy over the next few months. There’s also the conclusion of the domestic football season, rugby league, darts and tennis, all live on Sky Sports.

For rugby fans, 2017 will be one to remember. Only happening every four years, this summer will see the British and Irish Lions tour New Zealand to take on the All Blacks. Showing exclusively on Sky Sports, the Lions Tour offers must-see events for any

rugby fan and the early kick-off times offer a great chance for pubs and bars to drive trade during non-peak hours. The first test of the British & Irish Lions tour in 2013, live on Sky Sports, attracted almost 900,000 out of home viewers so landlords can look forward to encouraging customers through their doors throughout the competition. Warren Gatland’s men will take part in three Test games as well as various other fixtures against local New Zealand sides. Can the Lions be victorious and overcome the All Blacks?

licensing law

A pathfinder for a maze of legislation Veteran law firm has been advising clients for six decades

L

ICENSING in 2017 is set for a shake up with the local government elections in May resulting in the appointment of all new licensing boards shortly after. The licensing landscape could change dramatically and Hill Brown Licensing will be paying very close attention. Of course, the all-new licensing boards will in due course devise updated policies which will no doubt bring more challenges for the trade, with issues like overprovision expected to feature high on the agendas. With change, however, can come opportunity and there is the possibility that some boards will see this as a chance to make their mark in a positive way. Could the outdated restrictions on hours in some areas be lifted or will there be a fresh take on children’s access? Licensing just got a lot more

unpredictable. New board compositions are not the only changes the trade will have to contend with this year as the well documented maze of licensing legislation will grow even more complicated as further amendments to the 2005 Act come into effect later in the year. Hill Brown’s Jack Cummins, Peter Lawson and Audrey Junner have gained a reputation for being thorough and very ‘hands-on‘ – and clients understand that getting help from experts who are really approachable as well as knowledgeable has never been more important. Hill Brown Licensing can guide an applicant through the red-tape and avoid costly mistakes, as well as ensure clients are continually compliant with their legal obligations. Eight years on from the commencement of the 2005 Act, officials

are becoming less tolerant of breaches. Making sure all boxes are ticked can make the difference between saving or losing a licence in a premises licence review. A free licensing compliance checklist is available by emailing info@mshblicensing. com. A licensed premises doesn’t operate in a vacuum so licensing reform and the perils of remaining compliant are not the only legal issues the trade has to be wary of. At Miller Samuel Hill Brown, of which Hill Brown Licensing is a division, specialists can provide a ‘whole of market’ service. Plus an expert court department is on hand to support licensing clients where action is being taken against them or where they are forced to pursue others. The message to the trade is simple. It’s your livelihood: make sure it’s in the safest hands.

payment technology

Tech that can inspire loyalty in customers Customer loyalty programmes don’t need to be complex or expensive, according to Markadis

L

OYAL customers are something every licensed trade operator wants for their premises. And every day independent pub and restaurant owners try to improve customer loyalty and drive up additional customer spending without having access to the kind of expensive loyalty programmes used by the big brands. Mii-Promo from Markadis has changed that game for good, bringing marketing power back into the hands of landlords and restaurant bosses and putting the personal touch back into your business. Easy to use and install, Mii-Promo turns a customer’s normal debit and credit card into a powerful marketing system based upon the sales data that is gathered for each individual customer.

All you need to operate Mii-Promo is a payment terminal and a laptop computer. There are no barcodes or loyalty cards needed and the Mii-Promo team even helps with the sign up process. With the system in place, the MiiPromo team will then work with you to create personal loyalty programs to keep customers coming back again and again. From a customer point of view, the technology has a number of benefits. The programme gives them access to discounts, offers and a preferred benefits and rewards package, which in turns gives them a direct incentive to return to your business. Staff are also keen, with more return visits usually resulting in more tips.

SOFT DRINKS & MIXERS

It’s time for bars to show their softer side Demand for premium soft drinks is continuing to rise

W

ITH an increasing number of millennials drinking less alcohol and one in five people opting for a soft drink on a night out (ONS), the importance of stocking interesting, grown up nonalcoholic beverages has never been more important. According to Mintel, 41% of consumers are looking for a wider variety of soft drinks and the trend shows no sign of slowing down. In addition, the explosion of premium spirits has had an impact with drinkers wanting complementary premium mixers with a superior taste. Fentimans is the only UK producer of botanically brewed beverages in the UK and their unique mix of natural ingredients provides the perfect option for grown up soft drinks with robust flavours for a rich depth of taste – and for interesting mixer options. Last year Fentimans introduced three compelling new drinks with distinctive consumer appeal: Wild English Elderflower, Sparkling Lime & Jasmine, and Pink Grapefruit Tonic Water. All of these complement the spring and summer seasons perfectly with their delicate blend of delightful, floral flavours. Rose Lemonade is the brand’s fastest growing beverage. It has a delicate blend of floral notes with a refreshing citrus touch

that combines to provide a sophisticated soft drink choice. But it is also a very popular choice as an alternative mixer with gin. Meanwhile, its recent successfully launched Pink Grapefruit Tonic Water is a refreshing choice as a standalone drink or mixer with a complex combination of distinctive flavours with a real zesty tang. To create the complex flavours within each bottle of Fentimans, care is taken to source only the most authentic ingredients from around the world. The Wild English Elderflower soft drink, for example, is made using wild hand-picked elderflower from English hedgerows while Fentimans Rose Lemonade is made using pure rose oil from the world-famous Rose Valley in Kazanlak, Bulgaria. Fentimans uses only natural ingredients to make its delicious drinks, with its natural credentials at the core of everything it does. The trend of consumers wanting a premium soft drink and switching to sophisticated alternatives is adding real value to the market. Operators can capitalise on this by ensuring their bars are stocked with premium soft drinks and mixers with incredible flavour that offer something different for consumers to keep them coming back for more.

waste management

Keep on the right side of regulations Keenan Recycling specialises in providing businesses with fully compliant food waste collection solutions

W

ITH food waste regulations having come into force last January, it is more important than ever that licensed premises recycle efficiently in order to reap the benefits and avoid penalties. The most recent changes mean that the threshold at which food waste must be separated for collection has been drastically reduced from 50kg to 5kg. Regulations state that businesses, apart from those in rural areas, are required to segregate paper, card, plastic, metal, glass and food from general waste. In the Scottish licensed trade, the majority of sites will prepare and serve food, meaning most licensed premises require food waste collections.

Understanding food waste recycling can help businesses avoid hefty landfill charges and compliance fines. The landfill tax has been increased to £84 per tonne of waste, therefore recycling more efficiently can save a business a lot of cash – another powerful incentive to encourage recycling. Businesses that do not comply with food waste regulations risk incurring fines of up to £10,000. But help is at hand. Keenan Recycling provides a food recycling service for businesses throughout Scotland, ensuring that companies understand the benefits of more efficient recycling – both for themselves and the environment. “We always strive to demonstrate and

advise our clients and potential clients of the benefits of managing their food waste and thus saving their business money,” said a spokesman for Keenan Recycling. “We make sure our customers understand why they are doing it and show them the difference it will make to the environment and their business.” • Keenan Recycling is an award winning food waste recycling company providing reliable and regular collections across the whole of Scotland Since starting in 2001, the business has grown from a garden waste composting business based near Aberdeen to a national organics waste management company. Keenan recycling is currently the largest food and garden waste recycling business in Scotland.
