From the start, they have been associated with the gay community and libertinism. The mass media communication has often misrepresented AIDS, leading to high levels of stigma surrounding HIV and AIDS. This has led to creation of micro-communities who can be considered as a hard to reach in preventive approaches. According to the NGO Aides, 50,000 people are infected with HIV without knowing it. According to interviews carried out with health workers, the social image of representations Gypsies, Roma, and Travelers do not seem to impact an effective care.
