News from our Health Care Assistant, Mrs. Scheffler: MEDICATIONS must be accompanied by a parent note and brought to the clinic. A physician’s note is required for any medica on over 10 days. See the PISD main website for medica on guidelines and forms.

PRACTICE GOOD HANDWASHING Proper hand washing is the easiest way to prevent the spread of illness. We will do our best to encourage proper hand washing at Cockrell. Good habits begin at home so please encourage your family to wash hands frequently.

ILLNESSES: If your child becomes sick at school, I will contact you to pick them up. Please keep phones numbers cur‐ rent. If your child has been sick, the night before or during the night with fever or vomi ng please do not send them to school. Children MUST be fever free fro 24 hours without use of a fever reducer such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen. It is very difficult to keep our students healthy with sick children coming to school for even part of the day. If you have, any ques ons about your child’s illness and whether they can return to school please feel free to call me.

HEALTH ISSUES: Please keep me up to date on any medical concerns your child may have as the year progresses. I am here to support your child in anyway that I can.

SAFETY RULES AND TRAFFIC FLOW PROCEDURES Nothing is more precious than our children and we must work together to ensure their safety. Rules and procedures are in place to protect our boys and girls and everyone is expected to follow them at all times. Thank you for working with us to keep our students safe!

Dropping off students Option 1 FRONT OF BUILDING 7:15 – 8:00

   

7:15 Front doors are open and students may enter the building.

7:30 – 8:00 Staff members will be available to open car doors, greet your child and assist any child needing support.

Please pull up through the lane to keep the line moving.

NO student drop off in the parking lot. Parking lot is reserved for emergencies only.

Option 2 BACK OF BUILDING 7:45 – 8:00



7:15 – 7:45 Buses, daycare and teachers only are authorized to enter the back parking lot. Please refrain from entering the back parking lot before 7:45.



7:45 – 8:00 Students who are able to independently exit vehicles and enter the building may be dropped off along the breezeway and enter the double doors by the cafeteria.

  

Staff members will not be available to open car doors.

Back doors lock promptly at 8:00. Students arriving after 8:00 will need to be dropped off at the front of the building to receive a tardy slip.

NO visitor parking in teacher parking lot. All visitors are required to enter through the front of the building, show ID and receive a visitor’s badge.



Please follow the entrance all the way around the back parking lot. To avoid collisions, do not turn left at the dumpsters.

Picking up Students Students are released at 3:00pm. In the afternoon, students will be sitting according to grade level to create a swift pick-up. Children will not be allowed to walk to the Parent Parking Lot unless they are accompanied by an adult. For our student’s safety, all parents need to wait in their cars to pick up car riders. Students designated as car riders will only be released to an adult in a vehicle.

Please do not approach the car rider line on foot.

If you are waiting in the car rider line, we ask that you please place a sign on the passenger side of your windshield that features your child’s first and last name and grade level. Please do not meet your child during afternoon dismissal in the foyer of the school as it interferes with our staff safely escorting students during dismissal.

Bus Lane The bus lane is reserved for PISD buses and daycare vans only.

Car Riders Car riders are dismissed at 3:00 in the afternoon. Please place a sign with your child’s name and grade level on the dashboard of your vehicle. This helps speed up the process tremendously. We sure do appreciate the easy to read signs! When exiting the parking lot, please turn RIGHT only. Thanks in advance.

Bike Riders Students are to walk their bikes while on school property. They are to secure their bike before entering the school since the school is not responsible for damage or theft. During afternoon dismissal students will be escorted across the bus drive along Old Alvin Rd.

Hemos puesto en prác ca reglas de seguridad y procedimientos para proteger a nuestros niños y niñas que todos tememos que observar todo el empo. ¡Muchas gracias por trabajar con nosotros para mantener a los estudiantes seguros!

Dejando estudiantes en la mañana

Los padres que vienen a traer o a recoger a sus niños en carros deben venir por el carril designado y enen que seguir el flujo del tránsito.

DOS opciones están disponibles para dejar a sus niños por la mañana cuando vienen en auto privado. El siguiente plan ofrece un excelente servicio a nuestras familias, ya que hace mas eficiente el proceso de dejar estudiantes y reduce la conges ón de transito en McHard y Old Alvin Road.

Opción 1

En frente del edificio 7:15‐ 8:00 am



7:15 Las puertas del frente de la escuela abren y los estudiantes pueden entrar al edificio.



7:30‐ 8:00 Miembros de nuestro personal están disponibles para abrir puertas de autos, recibir a sus niños y ayudar a los niños que lo necesiten.



Por favor mueva su auto a través de el carril para mantener el transito fluyendo.



NO deje a los estudiantes en el estacionamiento. El estacionamiento esta reservado para emergencias.

Opción 2

Parte trasera de el edificio 7:45‐ 8:00 am



7:15 – 7:45 Autobuses, autobuses de centro de cuido y maestras son los únicos autorizados a entrar en el estacionamiento de la parte trasera de la escuela. Pro favor absténgase de entrar al estacionamiento de la parte trasera antes de las 7:45.



7:45 ‐8:00 Los estudiantes que pueden bajarse de su vehículo y entrar al edificio independientemente pueden ser dejados en la parte de atrás y enen que entrar por las puertas dobles al lado de la cafetería.



El personal de la escuela no estará disponible para abrir puertas de autos.



Las puertas de la parte trasera serán cerradas puntualmente a las 8:00. Los estudiantes que llegan después de las 8:00 enen que ser dejados en el frente del edificio para que reciban su pase de entrada tarde.



NO se estacione en el estacionamiento designado para las maestras. Todos los visitantes enen que entrar al edificio por las puertas del frente del edificio, enen que mostrar iden ficación y enen que recibir un pase de visitante.



Por favor siga la entrada y alrededor de el estacionamiento de las maestras. Para prevenir accidentes, no doble a la izquierda en donde están los botes de basura.

Ocupantes de vehículos (car riders)

Los niños salen a las 3:00 p.m. Favor de no encontrarse con sus niños en el ves bulo de la escuela, ya que interfiere con nuestro personal que escolta a los estudiantes a la hora de salida. Le pedimos que tenga un rótulo en el cristal del lado de pasajeros que diga el primer nombre, el apellido y el grado del estudiante. En la tarde, los estudiantes se sentaran de acuerdo a su grado para hacer el proceso más fácil. Los niños no podrán caminar hacia el estacionamiento a menos que estén acompañados de un adulto.

Para la seguridad de su estudiante, todos los padres necesitan esperar en su vehículo para recoger a su niño. Estudiantes que son designados como ocupante de vehículo (car rider) a la salida serán puestos en el vehículo con su nombre. Por favor no se acerque a pie al área donde los estudiantes están esperando ser recogidos en un vehículo.

Esto ayuda a que el proceso sea más rápido. Cuando salga de el estacionamiento, por favor doble a la derecha. ¡Muchas gracias!

Carril para autobuses

El carril de autobuses esta reservado para autobuses del distrito escolar de Pearland y para autobuses de centros de cuido.

Niños que vienen en bicicleta

Los estudiantes enen que caminar la bicicleta cuando este en los previos de la escuela. También enen que asegurar su bicicleta antes de entrar al edificio ya que la escuela no es responsable por daños o robo. A la hora de salida los niños serán escoltados a la entrada del carril de los autobuses en Old Alvin Road.

Process for Gifted and Talented Nominations for a Pearland ISD Student:



Parents/Guardians, other family members, and/or community members may nominate students.



Members of Pearland ISD professional staff, including principals, teachers, counselors, special program teachers or others who have knowledge of the student may nominate students.



Students may nominate themselves.



Nominations are accepted at any time during the school year; however assessment and identification are completed according to the published district timeline.

  

Complete and send to Advanced Academics Nomination Form Permission to Test Form (must have a parent signature)



Kindergarten students who are nominated by 4:00pm Friday, September 26, 2014 will be administered qualitative assessments at their home campus and one quantitative assessment at the Pearland ISD Education Support Center. Assessments at the PISD ESC will be after school or Saturday.

Parents will have multiple dates/times for scheduling GT assessments.



For students in 1st grade through 4th grade, assessments will be conducted at the campus during the school day if completed forms are received before 4:00pm Friday, September 26, 2014.



For students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade if completed forms are received after 4:00pm September 26, 2014, student assessments will be conducted in the first round of assessment the next school year.



For students in 4th grade if completed forms are received after 4:00pm September 26, 2014 through 4:00pm March 13, 2014, assessments will be conducted at the Education Support Center after school or on a Saturday in the spring. If forms are received after 4:00pm March 13, 2014, assessments will be conducted in the first round of assessment the next school year.


