majority of the calories that you burn will come from fat storage instead of carbohydrates.

3. Walking is easier than burpees. You’re much more likely to continue a walking routine than a high intensity exercise routine if you are just beginning your journey. Our first steps weren’t sprints. They were wobbly, small steps. We worked our way up.

4. The best workout routine is the one you stick to consistently, long term. Adding an extra thousand steps (or five) to your day will drastically increase your daily caloric burn when done consistently. Start with something sustainable, then work your way up to those burpees.

Cardio Workout

Cardiovascular Workout of the Month

Happy March! If you’re looking for a cardio workout to ramp up the heart rate and get you moving, give this Tabata a try. Our goal is to hit 20 seconds with maximum effort followed by 10 seconds of rest to move into the next exercise. Each set of exercises below will be repeated 4 times for a total of 4 minutes of work. You can add sets of work to decide how long you’d like your workout to be. Here’s an example of a 25 minute workout.

Alternate between the 2 exercises in each round: 20 seconds of maximum effort on one exercise, then 10 seconds to transition into the next. Repeat the 2 exercises 4 times and then rest for 1 minute.

Round 1: High Knee Running and Burpees; 4 times then rest 1 minute.

Round 2: Rapid Step Ups and Squat Jumps; 4 times then rest 1 minute.

Round 3: Butt Kickers and Skaters with touch down; 4 times then rest 1 minute.

Round 4: Butt Kickers and Side Shuffle; 4 times then rest 1 minute.

Round 5: Mountain Climbers and Tuck Jumps; 4 times then rest 1 minute. ...and then celebrate that you’re finished!

As always, add a light cooldown and be sure to stretch.

Spring into Wellness

Wellness Tip of the Month

Spring is just a hop, skip and a jump away! Most of us have heard of or even participated in “spring cleaning” of our homes, cars or workspaces. Have you ever thought of spring cleaning your body? It is important for us to cleanse not only the physical but mental as well. How can I spring clean my mind and body?

Start off with staying hydrated! Our bodies are comprised of 75% water, so hydration is crucial for our bodies to function properly. Carry your water with you throughout the day to insure you’re hydrating. Add some lemon for a little kick of vitamin C.

Avoid those sugary and processed foods! Fill your stomach with natural foods like fresh fruits and vegetables. Swap out that soda or sweet drink from the coffee shop with a fresh fruit smoothie.

Get yourself outside! When that nice weather hits, take advantage. Go for a walk, exercise outdoors, breathe in that fresh air or even take that well deserved break outdoors.

Reduce your stress! Stress can wreak havoc on not only your mind but your body. Stress can suppress your immune system, impede your memory and make it difficult to get the sleep your body needs. Develop a stress relief plan that will suit your lifestyle, like exercise, meditation, going for walks, breathing exercises etc.

Take a digital detox! Unplugging from technology can be a great way to clean your mind, as well as free up space in your schedule for self care. Turn the TV off, log off the computer, put down the phone and enjoy screen-free time. Take that time you would normally be on social media or binge watching TV and swap it with a new hobby, spending time with family or taking that yoga class you have been putting off.

Start your inner spring cleaning by following the tips above and get your mind and body ready for the new season!
