welcome

to The Peacock Arts Trail 2019

Welcome! We are so pleased that you are able to be with us on this - the fourth Peacock Arts Trail and explore the very best of North West Wiltshire’s vibrant artistic community. In visiting the many different studios and display locations, please do take the time to speak with the wonderful artists, ask questions and take inspiration from what you see. Indeed, we all have a creative impulse within us, so let this Trail be the touchpaper for starting your own projects over the next year! We are thrilled to announce that the artistic fruits of our first ‘Creative Connections’ community project are on show at Corsham Town Hall. Twelve older members of our community have been working with Peacock artists, Sam Perry and Rachel Heard, on artworks inspired by ‘A Walk in Corsham Park.’ We have been amazed at what they have created. Do visit for yourselves.

Thank you most sincerely to our generous sponsors, supporters and advertisers, including Corsham Town Council, Wiltshire Council, Box Parish Council, Heywood Prep and Hunter French. This event would not be possible without you! Thank you of course to the artists themselves and the galleries who are taking part. You truly make this Trail what it is! Have a great visit!

Corsham Town Hall

At the start of the year school children were invited to enter the Youth Art Competition with the theme ‘Draw what you can see from your window’. This gave everyone a wealth of possibilities for creating something imaginative based on reality or from their mind’s eye. Entries could be in any medium, including painting, ceramics, printmaking, drawing, textiles, mixed media, mosaics, sculpture and digital art/photography. Both winners and entrants will have their work displayed at the Town Hall for the duration of the Peacock Arts Trail. We are hosting four artists on the Trail in the Chamber Room and upstairs in the Methuen Hall. 3

Landscape, portrait and still life in acrylics and watercolour.

I have always been creative. My passion has always been life drawing but lately I have enjoyed painting seascapes. I love working with paint and experimenting with different textures. I live with my family in Corsham and I have the pleasure of working from my garden studio at home.

My paintings are bold, fresh, textured, colourful and inspired by my teenage years growing up in Southern Europe. I am inspired by nature’s smallest details and enjoy working with contemporary techniques to create vibrant pieces.

I am an artist, joyfully returning to my art after many years. I work in oil paint and ceramics, and I find, between these two mediums, I can really express myself. Both bring their own freedoms and challenges, and I am on a constant and exciting learning curve.

the table gallery A Walk in Corsham Park Coppins

An exhibition by the ‘Creative Connections’ group Corsham Town Hall, 10am-3pm everyday for the duration of the Peacock Arts Trail. Enjoy a display of artwork produced by a group of older people who have taken part in the Peacock Arts Trail’s very first community project. Inspired by the phrase “A Walk in Corsham Park”, they have worked with two of the artists taking part in the trail to create some very impressive art and, hopefully, they had a lot of fun and laughter on the way! We are very grateful to the Wiltshire Council’s Corsham Area Board (Health and Wellbeing) for funding this project; to Corsham Town Council for their kind support and to the customers of Waitrose (Melksham) for also donating via the green token scheme. 5

A Show of Hands: an exhibition in Corsham Court’s basement gallery of posters and ephemera celebrating the manicule, or printer’s fist. We have invited letterpress practitioners from across the UK to submit pieces of work inspired by this age-old device: expect quirky wordplay, visual puns and decorative joy as printers old and new take up the challenge. The adjoining Michael Turner Albion Press Room will also be open, with the opportunity to print an appropriate keepsake on one of our hand presses.

Sculpture in stone for gardens.

I am a watercolour artist painting mostly local scenes (Bath, Corsham, Colerne, Castle Combe ...) populated by anthropomorphic characters. I reproduce my work as cards and prints, calendars etc, and originals will be for sale if still available.

I am now working mainly with sterling silver and silver clay, but still enjoy combining these with pearls and semi precious stones to produce a range of elegant, affordable jewellery.

I make sculptural forms for indoors or outside, based on the wonderful world around us. I try to incorporate implied or actual movement into my work, either by the way it’s constructed, or by seeing the way simple components become something else once they’ve multiplied.

Paintings. Colourful adventures in real imagined landscapes - depicting sparky essences that are always to be found when we look for them.

Since studying Contemporary Crafts at Falmouth University, the artist has enjoyed exploring making with slip cast porcelain, as well as throwing and hand-building with a variety of clays.

We are a group of glass artists who meet regularly to design, explore and create independently or collaboratively. Currently, we are investigating different facets of art that extend and compliment our glass. These include calligraphy, painting and textiles. Each of us bring our own unique approaches and background to group projects.

Victoria creates elegant, understated ethical jewellery. With a focus on clean lines, soft brushed finishes and minimalist designs, her jewellery is intended to be worn and loved. Ethics are integral to her work, which means Victoria only uses recycled and Fairtrade metals, with pops of colour from beautiful ethical gemstones.

I specialize in the bright and colourful art of silk painting. Inspired by a difficult past, having battled and beaten both anorexia and depression, my designs reflect positivity and happiness which are two qualities I couldn’t value more. I love painting seascapes and vibrant silk scarves inspired by nature. Take Part Tie Dye Silk Scarf & Silk Sun Catcher

Inspired by nature, the majority of my images are peacock based so I thought this was the arts trail for me! I use a variety of techniques including lino, screenprinting and etching.

I am predominantly a self taught artist, passionate about producing artwork from an almost photographic quality to a more relaxed, informal style. I mostly paint using acrylics on canvas and I take inspiration from the beauty of my surroundings and the environment around me.

I am an individual artist. My work is mostly figurative painting - still life, portraits and landscapes - on a domestic scale. I will also be showing illustration work.

An award winning artist creating empowering portraits to bring out your inner Super Hero, using a Pop-Art inspired style and a vibrant layering process. Created to empower her audience, Emelie’s portraits are titled using affirmations and are inspired by her childhood heroes.

Joy has a background in civil engineering. This brings detail into her watercolours. Painting for more than 20 years has developed her love of local architecture and landscape. Canals, cottages and bridges set in beautiful countryside make up the main body of her work with some pieces inspired from elsewhere to add interest. Take Part Making A Start With Watercolours

Following the success of 2017 Wadswick Green is pleased to once again take part in the Peacock Arts Trail for 2019 supporting Joy Jefferys and her wonderful collection of art

I am an artist and full time art teacher who loves to explore a varied range of media and techniques. I am mostly inspired by nature and love to experiment with mixed media to create a range of textural studies inspired by the seascapes of Cornwall or landscapes in Wiltshire. Teaching and family life dictates the mood and time spent creating.

I am a self-employed carpenter who makes bespoke creations from locally sourced wood. I have a range of pieces that include mirror frames, wine-racks, quirky tables and food boards. I also have a range of turned wooden bowls. I produce original but practical pieces that can be created from wood but that keep the natural beauty of the grain.

I am a photographer producing work ranging from commercial advertising to fine art personal work using large format film.

After a career as a graphic designer in Soho, London, I pursued a new direction in carving stone which has given me a greater sense of durability to my work which is exciting and satisfying. I work mainly for commission alongside more sculptural pursuits.

Chloe takes inspiration from her local environment, memories and materials. Her work creating texture and atmosphere, and often her techniques and pieces, evolve through the exploration of the creative journey.

My work is characterised by landscape and abstract imagery built up with layers of oil colour. The images evolve by adding and removing layers until the painting resolves. I am interested in the essential nature of life, what lies beyond the first glance, the longings and the deeper currents that run through each human life. t 07792 916550 e info@helengarrett.org w www.helengarrett.org

I revisit the memories and emotions associated with vintage ceramics, using press moulding and hand building techniques; my work is heavily textured & spontaneous. Each piece is fired five times to achieve its distinctive patina using a collage of textural surfaces, slips, glazes, transfers and lustres.

Chris is a watercolour artist and children’s book illustrator, influenced by Beatrix Potter, Arthur Rackham and Norman Rockwell. He will be showing a collection of original illustrations, drawings, signed limited edition prints, cards and books.

I make and teach about silver jewellery using a medium called silver clay. It handles like a clay and can be used and fired in your kitchen on a gas hob. You are left with 99.9% silver jewellery.

I am a textile artist specialising in Cyanotypes on fabric. Cyanotype being the original form of photography, using sunlight and patience to capture an image. Creating unique pieces of blue with a hint of sparkle.

My paintings are inspired by the Cornish coastlines and their elements. Built of many optical mix layers in response to light reflections, natural forms and fragments. I work intuitively combining glaze, texture and mark making. Specialising in creating vivid art fused by energy, purity and balance.

I work from home creating airdried clay/apoxy resin sculptures.

I have been sculpting 15 years since retiring from work and trained at City of Bath College. I am a member of Cotswold Sculptors’ Association and have exhibited at Bath Art Society Open Exhibition. I use plaster, Jesmonite and white cement/marble dust. Some sculptures are cast in bronze. Major influence is endeavouring to capture the idea movement.

I have been involved in art groups for many years and was also an art adviser for primary schools in Wiltshire. I obtained a first class honours degree in Fine Art at U.W.E. and was awarded the Rebecca Smith Prize for Fine Art Printmaking at end of course. Diverse paintings in acrylic and mixed media with an interest in texture and colour; also abstract Fine Art prints.

Mary works from her studios in Bradford on Avon making paintings and ceramics. Using a limited and often muted palette, her oil paintings and ceramics, result in a harmonious relationship of colour, texture and layering, where the description of the object is only a part of the whole.

I work mostly with mixed media or oil paint. It is important to me to create texture and capture atmosphere in my paintings. I am greatly influenced by my local surroundings and my travels to France, Spain and Italy.

The Barn Gallery @ Church Farm “Apparently, variety is the spice of life..

Church Farm Advert

Kathy Hutton

Olivia de Rivaz

Influenced by a love of ceramic form and seasonal botanicals, I mix freehand printed line-work with splashes of screen-printed or hand blocked colour. Bold silhouettes acquire their own character when combined with the spontaneous nature of mono-print. I run beginners printing workshops at my home studio. Take Part Botanical Print Workshops t 07879 632103 e kathy.hutton1@hotmail.com w www.kathyhutton.com i/f @kathyhuttonprints tw @hutton1kathy The Old Forge, The Street, Yatton Keynell SN14 7BA On main road through Yatton Keynell, opposite Blacksmith Close

I’m both a veterinary surgeon and artist based in Wiltshire. My paintings are inspired by the animals of the British countryside, and my work is available as prints, cards and originals.

Landscapes and seascapes in acrylic capturing the ever changing light that dances over a landscape and the movement of clouds. Using a limited palette, Karen works in a semi abstract, instinctive way letting the composition evolve.

Often inspired by nature, magnifying tiny aspects to create large abstract, brightly coloured oil paintings, Gaynor’s work then contrasts dramatically by taking slightly obscure photographs or creating detailed sketches. Working in extremes of small and intricate, large and black and white or vivid colour, but always with underlying warmth.

Individually hand-built and decorated ceramic domestic ware using an earthenware terracotta clay with an update on traditional slipware decoration.

Strange & Wonderful Beings: The Work of Clifford & Rosemary Ellis

Fi Redmond

Barking Hen Jewellery

My work is framed with reference to both its methodology and its content. My methodology builds out of the material constraints and properties of wood carving and construction. My content builds from mythology, folklore, and psychological space to explore the underpinning complexities and poetics that invisibly thread through our lives.

Fi is a textile artist producing handstitched and embroidered fabric collages. In November 2018 she completed the Chippenham Tapestry, commemorating the town’s efforts during the Great War, which now hangs in Chippenham Museum. Since completing the Tapestry, Fi has worked on school projects, a Masonic banner and altar cloths. Take Part Feathers Fun & Quick Stitch Piccies

Tamara, a jeweller/designer for over 20 years, hand makes her jewellery from a little studio in her back garden in Chippenham. Using established traditional silversmith techniques partnered with a flair for the unusual, Tamara’s pieces have a delightfully quirky, British sense of style & her designs lay tribute to our wonderful British countryside.

I enjoy making bright, colourful mosaics and textile pictures. I use a mixture of media within my work: glass and ceramic tiles, buttons, beads, plastic bricks, fabrics and handmade felt. I love creating small, vibrant, affordable pieces that bring colour and joy into a sometimes dull and uninspiring world.

I am a highly accomplished and versatile painter. My work explores a wide variety of subject matter, influenced by the places I have travelled and the people I have met. Recently I have concentrated on the local Wiltshire countryside, wildlife, and still life. My latest project is unrest in the world, and this has produced some exciting paintings.

A love of painting, having always been sketching on holidays, travelling abroad, taking many photos with the intention of using for drawings or paintings. Worked mainly in watercolour, pen and pencil, only recently turned to acrylics and discovered a whole new way of working and really enjoying this.

I am a contemporary glass artist using fusing and slumping to complement traditional methods of glass work, thereby creating unique vibrant and dynamic works. I believe that everything has energy and a rhythm. Colour is an important part of my life be it natural or man made and I draw inspiration from nature and my travels. Take Part Star Making

I work with a variety of materials, handmade papers, wire, abaca tissue to create sculptural forms and gain inspiration from many sources both real and imagined. Recently I’ve been experimenting with printing and book binding techniques, pursuing the possibility of using miniature art books as the canvas for my work.

The appeal for me is the wide ranging and eclectic nature of stitching and the vibrancy of threads and hand-dyed fabrics. Where possible I refashion recycled materials into something new and beautiful. I often use the machine initially to texture the piece then rework using hand stitch.

Linda enjoys working with textiles using hand and machine embroidery, crochet and wire work.

At a course in creative embroidery at Trowbridge college in 1999, I first met the other members of Materialise and we have been together as a textile art group ever since. My interest has developed around the natural world, incorporating as much colour and texture as possible.

Materialise is a group who originally met at Trowbridge College while doing a City & Guilds course in embroidery. We have remained as a group, meeting monthly and exhibiting every 2 years since.
