Welcome To Peach Days 2012!
Welcome to the 14th annual “Peach Days: A celebration of our Heritage”. We are excited about another year of events to participate in and the opportunity it brings to visit old friends and make new ones. As always there will be something for everyone throughout this two day celebration. This year you will notice many upgrades made by the city to our Community Center and the grounds, which we hope will heighten your enjoyment of this popular two day event. Peach Days is patterned after the Peach Days of early Hurricane where local farmers began a celebration as a way to market fruit. It grew over the years and eventually, at the request of the county, became the Washington County Fair. Peach Days began in Hurricane again in 1999 when residents missed the celebration that was such an integral part of our valley. We look forward to another year of this traditional small-town weekend full of displays, competitions, good food, parade, rodeo and a number of other events that make it a weekend of good old fashioned fun on the “town square”! Please take some time to enjoy the displays inside the Community Center where many talented citizens share with us their handiwork in the various exhibits. There are displays of gardening, flowers, bottling and baking in two classrooms; photography and paintings in the newly remodeled “Bryce Canyon Conference Room”; and home arts

and crafts in the refurbished “Red Rock Room”. Be sure to stroll through Pioneer Corner on Saturday and enjoy the demonstrations of old time pioneer crafts, including free samples at many booths. This event is growing each year and is a favorite part of activities on the lawn north of the main building. There will be three nights to choose from to enjoy the musical “Come See Our Valley,” which is about the beginning of Hurricane, written and performed by local talent. A movie will be shown Friday night, and our small town rodeo will take place Saturday night. With the peach cook-off, parade, fun run, canal hikes, kiddie-carnival, and eating contest, there will be plenty to fill your time. Be sure to relax and listen to some of the fantastic local talent presented throughout the two days of continuous entertainment. Our committee has worked hard to bring this fun-filled and relished tradition to our community once again. It is wonderful to see the labor of love come to fruition each year, and inspiring to see the sense of community that shines from both the committee and those who participate in and enjoy this weekend. Thank you for making Peach Days a part of your summer and for joining with us as we celebrate the heritage of our Hurricane Valley. We can’t wait to see YOU at Peach Days!

Peach Days History
14th Annual Peach Days
This Labor Day weekend, August 31 and September 1, will be the 14th annual celebration of Peach Days. However, Peach Days really began a long time ago. It is an integral part of Hurricane’s history. What began as a Fruit Festival in 1909 would evolve into the Peach Days and eventually the Washington County Fair. When the infamous Hurricane Canal began to flow the life blood of the valley – water – the farmers were able to begin planting. Water was available as early as 1906, but not until 1908 did it reach the South Fields. Several thousand Elberta peach trees were purchased and planted by the valley’s newly formed “commercial club” in 1908. They battled many hungry rabbits as they nurtured these baby trees along. Frank Barber, an experienced nursery man from Centerville, Utah came to Hurricane in January 1907 and began cracking peach pits which he planted in the spring. He organized the Hurricane Nursery Company (later the Dixie Fruit and Produce Company). Barber became involved in the commercial club and as the vice president organized the first “Fruit Festival”. This was held in 1909 in the Social Hall. The townspeople came and displayed the best fruits they had raised: Elberta peaches, grapes, and melons. The produce was judged and then those attending the “Fruit Festival” all helped eat the scrumptious display. The second year (1910) the Festival expanded and invited outsiders to share in Hurricane’s wealth. The Hurricane residents and guests shared a meal, then moved to the Social Hall to view the fruit displays. It was described in the county news as fruit with “an extra superior quality”, and that “finer peaches were never seen anywhere”. Equal praise was given to the grapes, melons and other fruits (except for the apples which were a little wormy). After the judging and prizes, the crowd once again ate the delicious fruits. The day’s festivities were rounded off with a baseball game and a dance at the town square (now Heritage Park and Hurricane Community Center). From these humble beginnings the fruit festival grew into a two day event with roping contests, foot races, horse

14th Annual Peach Days races, bronco riding, steer wrestling, baseball, dancing parties and cantatas. The fruit was still the center of the event and on the afternoon of the second day the melons were cut and everyone ate the fruit display. The Fruit Festival became the Hurricane Peach Days. The first Peach Days was held July 20, 1911. It was originally called Elberta Days, and in 1915 the name was changed to Peach Days. Exciting things happened at Peach Days, like in 1916 when Mr. Fox brought his automobile to the celebration and charged 10 cents for a ride from the north end of Main Street to the flour mill and back! In 1929 Hurricane’s Peach Days had livestock and poultry exhibits, agricultural and horticultural displays, and various entertainments. It had achieved county fair status. At this time the county wanted to hold this fair annually and alternate among the towns of the county. The suggestion to hold it in St. George the next year was made, but the 1930 festival was again in Hurricane, and there it was to remain. In 1951 the name was changed to the Washington County Fair. County commissioners asked Hurricane to make this the county fair celebration because of its great success. The fair grew bigger and bigger. By the 1970s seed displays and agricultural exhibits were held in the old high school gym, and home arts exhibits were in the elementary multi-purpose room. During the 1980s it was expanded over a couple of city blocks. Home arts and baked and bottled goods were displayed in the new Hurricane High School’s gym and other parts of the building. Commercial booths lined the street along 100 south to Hurricane Elementary where in the old gym were seed and agricultural displays. Food booths were nestled along the street under the shade trees of the Elementary. At least three Continuous Entertainment stages were set up. One on the new High School Lawn, one among the booths along 100 south, and another on the lawn at the elementary. The carnival was set up over the years in various places (football or practice field, the street, playground, and a vacant lot), boxing was held at the American Legion Boxing Arena, and a rodeo at the American Legion Rodeo Grounds. Dances were held (a teenager’s dance and a country dance) at the old tennis courts, and the American Legion patio. The music could be heard all over the downtown and nearby residential area. Two parades were held: a children’s parade on Friday evening, and a general parade on Saturday morning. Remodeling at Hurricane High School caused the County Fair to be moved to the new Hurricane Middle School in the early 1990s. It was much more cramped and congested there and only lasted a few years before the new fair grounds were built at the Washington County Regional Park, and the Washington County Fair was moved to these new facilities. Hurricane residents missed the small town celebration that had grown so large and moved from the downtown part of their community. In 1999 the first board members (David Stirland, Tom Hirschi, Jarolyn Stout, and Vera Hirschi) organized committees and the first “new” Peach Days, which was held September 3rd and 4th, 1999. It was a huge success, with even its critics admitting it was a wonderful event. The community feeling of unity was back. Fond memories of days gone by were relived, and new memories were made. The goal of the board and committees has been to keep Peach Days a smaller hometown event without an over-flux of “commercial”. Peach Days was held in its old stomping grounds at the old HHS and Hurricane elementary grounds. The old High School was torn down in 2004, so the layout was changed and expanded to the Elementary building, but the events and displays are still much the same. Then in 2010 when Hurricane Elementary was moved to a new location, Hurricane City purchased the old school building and grounds, which is now the Hurricane Community Center. With the acquisition of the old “town square”, it allowed Peach Days to run for two full days as the school schedule no longer needed to be worked around. Whether you are a native to the area or a transplant, Peach Days will give you a great sense of community and appreciation for our pioneer heritage. You can walk through room in the Community Center or Fine Arts building and view various handiwork, garden and art displays. You may want to attend the craft show, or wander through pioneer corner and learn about the crafts and skills our pioneer ancestors passed down. Kids will enjoy the kiddy carnival, Pioneer Games and Candy Cannon. Be sure to grab a bite to eat at the food booths lining the street in front of the Community Center and relax under the shade as you listen to some local talent at the continuous entertainment. Don’t miss the parade Saturday morning or the old fashioned rodeo Saturday night or “Come See Our Valley” on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for some great entertainment. Peach Days Events and Activities Exhibits–There will be Home Arts, Fine Arts, garden and canning displays in the lunchroom and various rooms of the Hurricane Community Center. Group and individual displays of handiwork from the past year may be entered. Artists of all ages will have a chance to show off their talents in different aspects of artwork. Gardeners, home canners, and bakers also get to enter their favorite products for display. The Home Arts, Fine Arts, gardening, candy and canning will all have their entries judged and ribbons will be awarded. Be sure to wander through the Hurricane Community Center & enjoy yourself as we share our talents with one another. Parade–The parade will begin on Saturday, September 1 at 9:00 a.m. Line up starts at 8:00 a.m. There will be some fun entries in the parade this year. The parade will begin at 400 South and Main, turns down 100 South and travels West and turns South on to 300 West. It will end on 300 South and 300 West. Peach Cook-off–Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 1 at 5:00 p.m. on the south sidewalk of the elementary school for the Peach Days Peach Cook-off. Any peach dishes whether hot or cold are encouraged to be entered. Cobblers, drinks, cakes, breads or whatever creative dish you may know of, are all welcome. There will be prizes awarded! There are only two rules for the cook-off. 1- Submit your recipe with a valid phone number by August 23 to Peggy Clyde (peggyclyde@beyondbb.com). 2- Bring your prepared peach dish to be judged between 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Judging will start at 5:00 p.m. All submitted entries will be qualified for the Grand Prize of a Bosch Bread Machine!!! Cash prizes to 1st, 2nd and 3rd runners up. A cookbook will be published containing all of the submitted recipes. Come and taste the entries after the judging around 5:45 p.m. on the south side of the Community Center. Food and Commercial Booths–Food & Commercial booths will be spread along the street between the elementary buildings. Relax under a shade tree while you enjoy a meal or snack. Everything from hot dogs to Navajo tacos & ice cold drinks to shaved ice treats will be availabe to buy. Browse through the commercial booths for a variety of wares to purchase. There should be something for everyone. Rodeo–Saturday, September 1 at 7:00 p.m. will be an amateur Jackpot, Bull Riding, Roping, Mutton Bustin’, Chicken chase, and Gymkhana events. Plan to come and slide on the big water slide, play in the bouncy houses, climb a wall, or a number of other booths set up for both children, teens and adults! There should be something for everyone. Historic Hurricane Canal Pioneer Trek–Saturday, September 1 at 6:30 a.m. (8:00 a.m. for easy hike) will be 3 levels of hikes along the Hurricane Canal. Meet at the Heritage Park. You may choose from a mild (1/4 mile), moderate (4.5 miles), or strenuous (5.7 miles) hike. Be sure to bring water and wear good shoes. Canal shirts will be given out at the 6:30 a.m. hike. Candy Cannon & Pioneer Games–The North lawn of the Community Center will sport a teepee where the Emersons welcome children for free Pioneer Games, and where “Emo” the Mountain Man and his family will blast candy from a cannon periodically throughout the day.

14th Annual Peach Days Pioneer Corner–Peach Days: A Celebration of our Heritage. This theme to our celebration we usually refer to as just Peach Days, sets the stage for the popular Pioneer Corner. In Pioneer Corner, our Heritage is shown very strongly. Many crafts and skills that our pioneer forefathers used as a part of their daily living, have been passed down and are used today both as hobbies, or in some cases as a basis for making a living. Pioneer Corner is patterned after the Southern Utah Folk Life Festival that used to be held in Zion every September. There you will find many of the same demonstrations in our Pioneer Corner. Take some time to wander through the tables under the shade on the Community Center lawn on Saturday, September 1. Stop and watch the demonstrations, ask questions, or even try your hand at many of the wonderful things available. Each demonstrator has generously donated his or her day to share with us the parts of the past that have been handed down to us today. Some booths will have samples of their items to taste such as delicious Dutch Oven potatoes, scones, or molasses candy. You won’t want to miss this fun part of Peach Days! Quilt Show–Be sure to check out the beautiful quilts on display in the Community Center Fine Arts Building. Fiddling Contest –The Fiddling Contest will be held on Saturday, September 3 at 2:00 p.m. This event is fun for all. For more information, please contact Debbie Thornton 668-6219. FIREWORKS at the close of Peach Days on Saturday night at 9:30 p.m. Fireworks will be launched near the Community Center, not the high school. Home Depot Kids Activity Center – Bring your kids and participate in the Home Depot Kids activity center located in the south lawn of the Fine Arts Auditorium on Saturday, September 1 after the parade. FREE, but first come first serve. “Come See Our Valley” – A play based on the founding of our valley will be perfomed in the Fine Arts Building on August 30, 31 and September 1 at 7:00 p.m. Movie in the Park – Bring your own blanket or chair and enjoy “The Lorax” on the grass west of Fine Arts Bldg. Sponsored by Hurricane Pediatric Dentistry Breakfast – Breakfast Burritos will be served from 7 - 9 am in front of the Fine Arts Building. Nominal fee will apply. Hurricane Pediatric Dentistry is sponsoring a movie night! This will be held Friday evening on the grass area next to our new Pickleball courts. (Just west of the Fine Arts Building.) The movie will begin at dusk – around 8:30. Bring your own lawn chairs or a big blanket. Pioneer Corner
The title of our celebration, “Peach Days; A celebration of our Heritage”, sets the stage for the popular “Pioneer Corner”. In Pioneer Corner, we enjoy demonstrations of many of the crafts and skills that our pioneer forefathers used as a part of their daily living. These talents have been passed down and are used today both as hobbies and in some cases as a basis for making a living. Pioneer Corner is patterned after the Southern Utah Folk Life Festival that used to be held in Zion every September. There you could see demonstrations of traditional pioneer crafts and lifestyles. We have included many of the same demonstrations in our own Pioneer Corner. Take some time to wander through the tables under the shade of the east side

of the Community Center lawn on Saturday. Stop and watch the demonstrations, ask questions, or even try your hand at many of the wonderful things available. Each demonstrator has generously donated his or her day to share with us the parts of the past that have been handed down to us today. Be sure to tell them thanks! Some booths will have samples of their items to taste such as the delicious Dutch oven potatoes, scones, or molasses candy. We are also able to enjoy favorite demonstrations such as the horseshoeing, quilting, weaving and spinning, or browse the many interesting parts of the blacksmith shop. You won’t want to miss this fun part of Peach Days. Take a stroll through the past and be sure to visit Pioneer Corner!

Zion Piecemakers Quilt Guild Zion Piecemakers Quilt Guild is pleased to host their annual Quilt Show, which will be held in the Fine Arts building. The quilts on display are made by members of our guild. We meet monthly on the second Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the Craft Room at the Hurricane Community Center. We also have a workshop the third Thursday of each month from 2 - 8 p.m. in the same location. New members are always welcome! Our annual challenge quilts will be displayed. Each quilter was given a piece of the same fabric and the challenge is to make a small quilt incorporating this particular fabric. The other requirement challenge quilt. this year, which was added to the challenge, is that the quilts must be hand Our 2012 Opportunity Quilt is called quilted. “Love At Home”, and features a house surrounded by many star blocks. Home Depot Kids Activity Center The Home Depot’s Kids Workshops offer useful projects including the creation of toolboxes, fire trucks and mail organizers, as well as more educational projects, such as a window birdhouse, bughouse or Declaration of Independence frame kit.
The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment in them. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children.
In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates’ aprons, and an achievement pin. Saturday, September 1 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. FREE, but first come first serve. South drive way by Fine Arts Auditorium.

Grand Marshals: Jack and Angelyn Lemmon Jack has been serving others almost since birth in 1925. From an early age, he worked at bringing pleasure and happiness to his friends by employing his impish behavior to keep them alert and on their toes; always doing his bit to help them avoid having humdrum lives. Growing up he learned from his father, Arnold, the many skills required for operating road-grading machinery, skills utilized by the Army Air Corps by assigning Jack to construct airstrips in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1946. Home from the war, he convinced Miss Delma Ballard that he was the man of her dreams and together they established a home, a family, successful business careers based on cheerfully and efficiently providing needed services as well as finding the time and energy to serve others as needed whether church or in community affairs. His businesses over the years included a service station, a petroleum products business, an automobile parts store and owningoperating a swimming pool. As each of the three boys, Jim, Ronald and Stephen reached fifteen or so, he would work every afternoon and evening at the station. By sixteen he was running it, gathering the cash and closing up at quitting time. If any of them encountered trouble, they could call Jack but mostly they worked things out for themselves. Besides at times operating multiple businesses, Jack always accepted demanding church callings such as bishop and then stake president, and he was always active in community affairs, serving four years as a volunteer fireman, a hospital board member and a county planning
commission members. He served two years on the city council and then eight years as mayor. While serving as mayor, a million-gallon culinary water tank was built on the hill at about 250 North to replace the woefully obsolete one. And Hurricane was revolutionized. No longer was it a hick town with dirt roads. The streets were all paved! With all his activities, there were times when Jack just got occasional glimpses of his family. Sunday dinner was the one big happy exception; Jack has fond memories of these too brief moments. There was little time for family trips, an exception being one to the Northwest then south into Mexico both Jack’s and Delma’s mothers went along. Most outings were picnics shared with Delma’s sibling’s families. They had good times together. We know nothing of Jack as a disciplinarian because he didn’t have occasion to be one. Making such trips becomes lonely business indeed and it was only because Angelyn was always ready to provide congenial company that otherwise grinding discouraging traveling chores became a source of pleasant memories. Beginning with a mission for Jack and Angelyn to Palmyra New York in 2003 as tour guides, it was back to devoting full time to church and to family. They now assume weekly Temple duties and their home plays an important role of focal point for the Lemmon families as well as a more long-distance role with the Almond families, roles for which both Jack and Angelyn are ideally suited.
love, guidance, interest and responsibility and they responded accordingly. Jack loved their mother, and their mother managed wisely. Jack quit working for himself at age 53 and began devoting full time to the Lord’s work and to civic efforts. First he and Delma assumed presidency of the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Mission. Next it was the St. George Temple Presidency. Besides some years of working full time in a church calling, Jack was Chairman of the Washington County Water Conservancy Board for twelve years and was on the executive committee of the Special Service Districts of the State of Utah for two years. Delma died in 1992 and Jack has since married Angelyn Stout Almond. The marriage was a wise choice for both. Angelyn, the daughter and eldest child of Emerald and Roma Stout lived elsewhere while raising her family and returned to Hurricane when again single. Being Conservancy Board Chairman required that Jack make frequent trips to various western states and even Washington D.C. Also, district Manager, Ron Thompson, often asked Jack to attend distant meetings in his stead,

The race isn’t always to the swiftest… YOU can win just by predicting how long it will take you to run this fun 12K course! This fun and exciting race will be held on Saturday, September 1at 6:15 a.m. Race will begin and end at Hurricane Community Center (63 South 100 West). Awards will be given 20 deep to those finishing closest to their projected finish time. Race must be completed in 1 hour 45 minutes or less to be eligible for awards. No watches or timepieces are allowed. Registration fee is $10.00 before August 20, 2012, and $15.00 after August 20, 2012. “Peach Chicken Sweet and Sour” by Marcia Cahoon
2 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, cubed 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 cup sliced carrots 1 onion, julienned 1 medium green pepper, julienned 2 ribs celery, sliced 2 cups cubed, fresh peaches
Saute chicken in olive oil until chicken is no longer pink, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Make sauce while chicken is cooking. Add carrots to chicken in the skillet with a little water. Cover skillet and cook on medium heat until carrots are crisp-tender, stirring occasionally and adding a little water as needed to keep from scorching. Add onion, green pepper and celery. Saute until onion wilts and peppers and celery are bright and crisp-tender. Pour sauce over chicken and vegetables and simmer for a few minutes. Stir in peaches just before serving and serve immediately over rice. Sauce 1 cup peach jam 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 teaspoon dry mustard ½ teaspoon ground ginger ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
Heat in saucepan over medium heat just until brown sugar melts. Whip in blender to make smooth.

14th Annual Peach Days The All American Cloggers have been a part of Peach Days entertainment since its beginning. They have also performed internationally and most recently earned overall first place awards at the Dixie Spectacular Dance Competition. Under the direction of Nicole Metcalf Hadley, their show offers a mix of traditional rhythm dance and exciting footwork. With a range of ages and levels, the AAC is an exciting team that will leave you tapping your feet to the beat. Dallas Mangum and the singing group “Time Out” will be performing again this year on Saturday night on stage 1 at 7:30 pm. We look forward to seeing everyone there and having a fun evening under the stars.
Casey Lofthouse has been singing for many years, he just hasn’t been heard much past the bathroom window, until recently. Casey grew up in Northern Utah and the winter months were long and cold! He spent much of his time in the front room of the family home listening to the vinyl records. His love of Classic Country was instilled at an early age and he enjoys spending time sharing the so called “moldy oldies” every chance he gets. During middle and high school he learned alot about music and singing in the choir plus he played the cornet and tuba. His Band is in the little black box, and the excuse for that is he doesn’t have to bail the drummer out for a Friday night gig. If you love Classic Country don’t miss Casey performing again for 2012 Peach Days
The Newly formed Virgin River Band is here and prepared to give you a great night of entertainment. With many years as professional musicians in the County and Rock ‘N Roll field, they know what it takes to liven up the party and get the crowd into it. As one of the top bands in the area, each member knows their role in making a great song greater and does that very thing to your satisfaction. Whether it be harmony, solo, instrumental or rhythm, they do it all. As original band members, Rory on drums and arranging, Layne on lead guitar and vocals, 3 new band members are Everett on bass, fiddle and steel guitar and vocals, Shawn on keyboards and vocals, Mikalene on rhythm guitar and vocals. Brad Cahoon, Joe Furse, and Colton Winder have been performing together since 2003 and are excited to be performing again at Peach Days this year. They accompany themselves on several instruments including the fiddle, guitar, banjo, harmonica, mandolin, and concertina. As always, they will perform a variety of bluegrass and old-time music. The Stout Family performs in many community and church events throughout the year. Jarolyn Stout, married to Collin, has performed her entire life with her mother Carolyn Ballard Shelley. As Jarolyn’s eight children came along, they joined the act. Shantel, Trinity, Chelsea, Jacob, Summer, Lucas, and Heather will all join in the performance this year. The Stouts accompany themselves on guitars and banjo, and will sing a variety of country and easy listening numbers both as a group and solos. Carolyn will also join in on some of their numbers. They will perform on stage one at 11:30 on Saturday.

Jupiter is a songwriting endeavor that blends melodic hooks, introspective lyrics and trance rhythms into songs that are both catchy and meaningful. Each brings their own perspectives, talents, and experiences to the mix offering a unique sound. They have been performing for the last six years around the inter-mountain west and are currently working on recording their third album. Entertainment Bios. continued This newly formed Southern Utah Gospel Choir is formed by professional & Semi-Professional musicians. They’ve so far performed in places such as the St. George Tabernacle, Ancestor Square & Hurricane Fine Arts. Their performance schedule is quickly filling up as Southern Utah finds out about this amazing group. This is NOT a regular “stiff” kinda group of people. They believe that in order to spread the Gospel to all people, you’ll have to sing like you truly mean it….and that they do!!! Our local Country Celebrity, Eric Dodge has on several occasions invited John Houston & his Gospel Choir to sing with him, and they are scheduled to continue doing “gigs” with him this year. So come join “The Latest & Greatest”…John Houston & his Gospel Choir this Peach Days on August 31 @ 5 pm inside the Fine Arts Building. You really don’t wanna miss out on this one!!!
The Hip-notics is a local dance troupe that until recently has been dancing under the name of Revasundari. Using a variety of Belly Dance styes and adding Spanish focloric dance, Ballet and any thing else that catches our fancy we create an upbeat family friendly show that is just a little bit different. Way Off Broads is a group of local ladies who love to sing “for fun”. The group includes Alicelyn Jaques, Tylia Jackman, Wanda Despain, June Jeffery, Sheri Beatty, and Marla Gledhill. Though known for music that is lighthearted and fun with a focus on harmony, the ladies enjoy performing some serious music as well. Before singing as the Way Off Broads, most of these women had sung together in other groups and settings. “This setting lets us really be friends and bring out our own personalities in the songs we choose to sing. We have a great time and believe that our enjoyment comes through our singing, it’s just good therapy for us to get together and make music.” The “Broads” have performed at Hurricane City’s Concerts in the Park, the Southern Utah Renaissance Faire, Dicken’s Fest in St. George, Lin’s Holiday Open House, local 4th of July and Christmas celebrations, Peach Days, and local businesses, church parties, and clubs.
Classic Country has been together for a couple of years. They are the house band for the Saint George Elks Lodge and play there every Wednesday night. They play often around the Saint George area. Frank Melton, Garn Huntington, Jim Geranious, and Charlie Mikkelson play old country favorites made famous by Haggard, Waylon, Cash, and others. Vocal students of Bonnie LeBaron will be performing at 1:30 p.m. on stage 2 on Saturday. Be sure to stop by for a fun, entertaining time, come enjoy some talented young people in a half-hour show. Three generations of musical Stirlands will be performing at Peach Days on September 1st at 6:00 p.m. The Sirland family show will feature harmonizing, clogging, fiddling and some good old fashioned fun for all ages.
The Hurricane Force is Hurricane’s original premier performing group. Formed in 2011, this by audition only group consists of 20 teenagers from throughout Hurricane. These talented teens participate in 4-6 hours of classes weekly in theater ,dance and vocal instruction. Many of the members also play instruments. They have literally performed in front of thousands . Performances include, Washington County fair, Peach days, International Indian pow wow, Adidas Tournament of Champions, the Dickens festival and the Bumbleberry Theater. Their all new Summer show for 2012 entitled Broadway Bound is sure to get you singing along with Broadway favorites from Les Mis, Phantom, and so much more! The Lawn Darts is Southern Utah’s premier party band. This is not a typical bar band. This is not a bar band at all, but a high octane classic rock and original band who has opened for Styx, Kansas, The Beach Boys and has headlined at the OC Tanner Amphitheater, Washington County Fair and St. George First Night. Driving the band at the front is the powerful voice of Travis Brown. Supplying the back bone of the band is the super tight rhythm section with Jeff Tuscano on Bass and Steve Gustaveson on Drums. The wing men are Lisle Crowley on guitar and Don Shelline on keyboard, flute, various percussion paraphernalia and vocals. Music has always been an important part of the Furse family life. Caleb enjoys musical theater and began voice lessons with Bonnie Lebaron. He currently studies voice with Brodie Perry and was recently the youngest finalist in Dixie's Got Talent. Together the Furse children will perform a variety of audience-pleasing music, from Broadway to bluegrass and Disney movie tunes. After a chance meeting at a superhero convention, Chauncey and the Chamberlains discovered that their voices were a great match. Their repertoire focuses on crowd pleasers ranging from Peter, Paul, and Mary, and Eric Clapton, to KT Tunstall. Their common interests are fighting crime, and happy music.
Jeri Churchill, and I do "Jeri's Parodies" Comedy songs for all occasions. I write and sing parodies that poke fun at the things that life throws at us women who are of a "certain age". Such as memory loss, weight gain, housework, husbands, etc...Because life is a lot easier when you can laugh at it!
Paige DeMille began singing when she was just a little girl at her mother’s knee. She remembers being about six years old, riding in the family car. She would stand on the back seat while leaning against the front seat, learning to harmonize with her mom. Eventually, mom would sing melody, dad would sing tenor, and Paige would sing alto. One Christmas, she and her mom learned a special Christmas song, Mary’s Lullaby, and performed it as a duet for Paige’s 4th grade class. After hearing the performance, the principal asked them to sing the song the next week for the school assembly, where the choir director heard them and asked Paige to join the special jazz choir. That Christmas duet with her mom is one of Paige’s favorite memories of her mother. Over the years as new brothers and a sister came along, the family chorale added tenors, basses, baritones, and another alto to mom’s beautiful soprano. To this day, the whole family remembers how much fun they had singing song after song — in harmony — standing around the piano while mom played and sang whatever they put in front of her. Since her 4th grade year, Paige has participated in many choirs — from school, to church, to community, and in an LDS Church’s production of Savior of the World, wonderful experiences all. She has learned that every opportunity to sing is a good one. Paige doesn’t have a particular genre of music that she prefers performing better than another. In fact, her criteria for choosing a new song to learn is simple — is it fun, is it beautiful, and/or is it challenging? In fact, the more challenging the better. She has found over the years that learning difficult songs is one of the best ways to keep her voice flexible and her range exciting. (If only exercise was as exciting!) She also asks family and friends to tell her about songs they think she would sound good performing, and most of the time, she finds the song and learns it. Her programs usually include anything from country to rock to pop to opera to Broadway to patriotic to religious, depending on the venue. The only thing she hasn’t tackled yet is rap — but that doesn’t mean she never will! Why does she loves it so much? Paige says that when she is singing and can see that the audience is moved by the music, she knows that she is using her voice — which she considers a gift from God — in the best possible way... to make people happy.

The parade route begins at 400 South and Main Street and then procedes on Main Street traveling North to 100 South, then on 100 South traveling West to 300 West, then on 300 West to traveling South to 300 South, then on 300 South to 200 West where you may turn right on 200 West or go straight to the church another block to disembark at the Red Brick Chapel. To maintain the parade flow, do not disembark until you are out of the way of any other entrants. Remember to be courteous. Do NOT block intersections. *Line up will be by number which you will need to pick up when you check in at 8:00 AM.
