Jenni Stuart + Ropes Mansion
Inscriptions on two delicate rings in PEM’s Ropes Mansion collection indicate that Elizabeth Ropes Orne (1818-1842), who lived in the mansion at 318 Essex Street, was both a giver and a recipient of friendship rings. Jewelry was often exchanged between close friends in the 19th century to express sentiments or serve as keepsakes or mementos. Salem fine jeweler Jenni Stuart recently collaborated with the PEM Shop to create high-quality reproductions of these rings. You can see a selection of jewelry from the Ropes Mansion collection on a seasonal, self-guided tour of the mansion next spring.
