Working with Economic Inclusion at Peabody

About us

Peabody is one of the UK’s oldest not-for-profit housing associations. We want to help people flourish by providing great homes and housing services and making a positive impact in communities.

We have 107,000 homes and 220,000 residents across London and the North Counties. We also provide care and support services for over 17,500 customers.

We have around 100 community centres. Many are led by management committees and partners. They offer a range of free or low-cost activities in the heart of the community.

About the Peabody Community Foundation

We want to make a positive impact in communities and help our residents and customers become healthier, wealthier and happier.

We do this by working with residents and partners to combine our funding, skills and experience so we can offer the widest possible range of services, support and opportunities.

We play a central role in how we invest in our communities and put people and their needs at the centre of everything we do.

Work, learn, flourish

The Economic Inclusion team supports residents, communities and local businesses to access economic opportunities.

We partner with local organisations, employers and Peabody’s supply chain to create and promote opportunities for our residents and those in our communities. This helps boost incomes, secure quality employment, advance careers, and develop professional skills and aspirations. We also support start-ups and established businesses to grow and scale.

Add value

Social value is a key part of who we are and something we’re passionate about.

We work with our contractors and suppliers to collectively create more social value through our spending decisions so we can address more of the key issues faced by our residents and those in our communities.

We’ve embedded social value targets in our largescale contracts. We engage with smaller partners to ensure that our communities benefit from employment opportunities, funding for grassroots events and projects and provide volunteering opportunities.

As part of their social value commitments, construction company Wates, has partnered with Peabody to deliver a full and fresh repainting of the main hall in Peabody’s Unity Centre in North West London.

They used their skills and expertise, and collaborated with their suppliers, subcontractors and Peabody colleagues. The support Wates provided was essential so the centre could continue to be a valued resource for communities to come together and flourish.

The impact of this work also enables the Peabody Community Foundation to secure more regular rentals and therefore greater revenue from the refurbished space. It is then reinvested into community initiatives delivered on-site.
