Welcome to your local newsletter

With nearly 500 homes and more than 1,200 residents, there’s always a lot happening around Ching Way, and we want to make it easy for you to stay in the loop

In each issue, you’ll find updates from resident meetings, news on repairs and maintenance, event details, and stories featuring your local Peabody team and neighbours. Plus, we'll include tips on the support available to you as a Chingway resident.

This newsletter doesn’t replace the usual updates you get about repairs, rent, or other essential info from Peabody, so keep an eye out for those as usual.

Elaine Daley, Community Investment Lead

In my role as Community Investment Lead for Waltham Forest, I bring people together and help make things happen locally Sometimes we work with partners who deliver activities that residents have told us they want to see.

Part of my role is also to make sure that people are aware of the different activities happening locally and to make sure that services offered are good quality.

I work alongside Doug (Youth and Community Coordinator) and a fantastic group of volunteers. I also partner with Peabody colleagues, including the Neighbourhoods team, to ensure our efforts are well-coordinated and effective.

Community Clean Up Day

On 7 November residents, contractors, Peabody staff and a local councillor Elizabeth Baptise came together with litterpickers and bags in hand It was a great opportunity to bring people together, have a chat with local experts on waste disposal and talk with the Peabody team about what they would like to see going on in their local area

The group included Cllr Elizabeth Baptiste, Vincent and T-boy from Waltham Forest Cleansing Service, Local Support Officer Shashi from the Metropolitan Police, six volunteers from Purdy (Peabody contractors) and residents Elaine and Kay. After a quick health and safety brief from Vincent, Cllr Baptise took a moment to thank everyone who had taken the time out of their day to take part, “I hear from residents across the borough about issues with litter and fly-tipping. It is great to be able to come together and do something proactive about it today”

The team split into two groups and over the course of about two and a half hours the teams covered a range of roads around the area, with the support of a cage van from Waltham Forest Services to pick up items too big to fit in bags At the end of the day the team had collected multiple bags filled with rubbish and left the area much cleaner than it had started the day.

Thank you to everyone who got involved with the clean up day. We are hoping to run more of these in the future and would love for more residents to join in!

Disposing of waste and large items

The local Peabody team have been made aware that some of the bins around the area are not being used as intended There are two types of bins - the black bin for regular rubbish contained in black bin bags and the green bin for recycling rubbish If you aren’t sure which bin to put an item in, Waltham Forest Council have a useful webpage explaining the different types of waste: walthamforest gov uk/rubbish-and-recycling

Large items such as sofa cushions, or clothes, shouldn’t be placed into these bins. Placing these items in the bins will mean that the local bin collection team will class them as contaminated and won’t empty them. This may result in Peabody removing the waste, which will be reflected in service charges

The Waltham Forest Rubbish and Recycling Team can help you if you have large or bulky items, electrical goods or garden waste to dispose of You can book a collection online at on the council website, the team will remove five large items for free per collection booking
