Jamming devices can disable home alarms

RAZEN thieves have taken car jamming a step further and are now using remote control devices to jam and disable home alarm signals.
The SA Intruder Detection Services Association (SAIDSA), issued a crime trend warning
to home owners on the ease of jamming of radio signals on equipment operating on the 433 MHz frequency. SAIDSA in their statement in Hi-tech Security Solutions magazine said, “While the public have recently been made aware of the ease of jamming of vehicle locking systems using remote transmitters on the same frequency, this crime trend has now progressed to wire-

less alarm systems.” Atlas Security in PE said they haven’t yet come across any home alarm jamming. They do not advise their clients to have the remote arming/disarming facility due to the threat. While this crime trend has been prevalent in many overseas countries for years now, more frequent instances of this method of jamming are appearing in South Africa.

“The remote jamming of alarm systems is similar to the vehicle alarm jamming currently taking place. We want to bring this to our clients’ attention before it materializes in the Eastern Cape,” said Monty Montgomery from Atlas Security. “When leaving your house, make sure that your alarm system is indeed armed.
