Caiphus Ntante believes he’ll be third time lucky with his boxer, Jikani NCEBA DLADLA NELSON Mandela Bay boxing trainer Caiphus Ntante, who looks after the interests of pugilist Lungisa “Naughty” Jikani, believes his charge will become the new champion when he meets Joburg’s Warren Joubert at Emperor’s Palace, Kempton Park in Johannesburg this Friday, June 24. The fight will be shown live on SABC2 Sports Programme The TKO at 9:30pm. It is the second time that the two gladiators square it up with the Gautenger winning on points in the first encounter for the then vacant title. Ntante, however, is adamant that his threepronged approach to the fight will result in Jikani announced as “The new South African Junior Welterweight Champion” on Friday. Ntante believes he’s got the plan to overcome Joubert’s trainer Colin “Nomakanjani” Nathan with whom he fought two times already including the first Jikani-Joubert tussle. “I’ll be third-time lucky. There is no way Nathan will beat me thrice. We trained very hard and will out-box Joubert and not make the mistake of trying to knock him out like we did in

the first fight,” said Ntante who is still celebrating his female charge Nozipho Bell winning the SA Junior Lightweight scrap. Bell followed Siphosethu Ncisana who wrested the World Boxing Federation (WBF) International Miniflyweight championship. Ntante added, “This is the title that belonged to Port Elizabeth’s Phumzile “Sweet Boy” Madikane. We’ll bring it back home.” “Our hope is that Jikani will win this title this time around. I also hope that the Ntante camp have really done enough preparations to bring the title home,” said Nelson Mandela Bay Boxing South Africa (BSA) Service Provider Mthunzi Mapitiza. Mapitiza believes that with two titles already in the bag, things are currently going well in the Caiph Camp. It “would be a hell of a success if he were to triumph on Friday evening,” said Mapitiza. He said he felt sorry for Masixole Botile, another Caiph Camp protége‚ who lost on points in East London at the weekend in his challenge for the vacant EC Middleweight title against Yanga Petani. “He must learn a lesson. You can’t drop an opponent twice and not go for the kill,” said Mapitiza.

ANC Ward 23 Councillor Sindiswa Mthimkhulu appealed to the youth to take sport seriously and refrain from committing crime. Clr Mthimkhulu said, “The youth of 1976 fought against an apartheid system so that oppressed people should enjoy the better life. They rejected Bantu Education because it caused servitude. “Today the youth have lots of opportunities and challenges but the right choice depends on the individual. Education is the right key to success”. Showvillage United Chairman Lukhanyo Wasa thanked all the teams that participated in the tournament. Wasa said, “Had it not been for the support of the teams, match officials, supporters and the community members, the event would not have been such a resounding success. On behalf of the club I want to thank all the stakeholders.”
